Welcome Orelia. Yeah the whole point of the group is meant as a way to discuss some books without all the formality of a book club.

We've been tending to use it for new releases over the past year, but we've also gone back and read books/series people wanted to catch up on or just had missed out on.

Feel free to participate as much or as little as you'd like and if you have a book you'd like to read, you can always post it in the Suggest a Book thread.

Chris | 1 comments Hi everyone. I'm Chris. I saw this group from update of a friend who joined and checked it out. Seems like a nice laid back place to share thoughts on books, and I like that will be reading Words of Radiance so I wanted to join up.
Look forward to giving my input as the group reads books.

Welcome Chris. I've seen a lot of people join recently who seem to be ready to read WoR, so hopefully we'll have some good discussion here.

message 104: by Ben (new)

Ben (bengiyo) | 5 comments Hey, I'm Ben. Alex invited me to the group when he and I spent a few hours discussing Words of Radiance and the Cosmere. Really excited about Sanderson's work.

Welcome Ben. There seem to be a few big Sanderson fans here. We had some pretty good WoR discussion last month, including Cosmere speculation. Hopefully you find some of it worthwhile.

message 106: by Gary (new)

Gary (gary1123) | 1 comments Hi I'm Gary. I recently read my first two Sanderson books (Way of Kings and Word of Radiance) and am now a huge fan. This looks like a great not a book club:)

Welcome Gary. There seem to be a good number of Sanderson fans here, so you should fit right in.

Hola all, I heard that here be Harry Potter soon! Nice to meet ya all. Was invited by Alex not too long ago. Looking forward to discussing books!

Hi everybody! I am Evgeny; some you you know me from other groups :) According to my GR bookshelves most of the books I read are fantasy. My current read is Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy which I like - for the quality of writing if nothing else.

Welcome Evgeny.

message 113: by Karen (new)

Karen | 54 comments I'm Karen, and I'm a book addict. Ok - so are most of us here, but it was the book shelf that caught my eye - I've read quite a few or have got them on my wishlist.

Currently waiting for Thief's Magic (Millenium’s Rule, #1) by Trudi Canavan to be released for the Kindle (and yes - I admit most of my books are now on Kindle - only way I can take enough reading material with me on holiday!)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Welcome Karen. We haven't read any Canavan, though maybe some people would be interested in joining you when it comes out.

message 115: by S. (new)

S. Aksah | 13 comments oh i used to read Canavan too..from the day of that girl with the superpower that she didnt know..im sure canavan had many more since..its already around 10 years i read actively..lol

Karen | 54 comments Alex wrote: "Hi Karen! I'll be going to that book launch next week and meeting Trudi. Definitely interested in reading it soon! Throw it on the "suggest a group read" thread and see if there's any other interest?"

Thanks Alex - off to put it on the suggested reading board now, along with another book I read recently - Traitor's Blade (Greatcoats, #1) by Sebastien de Castell ...

message 117: by Bas (last edited Jun 12, 2014 10:24AM) (new)

Bas (basdr) Hey boys and girls, it's Bas speaking. So I discovered this group through the Malazan group, I'm deeply invested into MBotF right now.

I'm hoping to contribute some more in the future and (re)reads and stuff. I saw that Harry Potter is coming up so I'll definitely have something to say there, I grew up with the books (sorry if I'm making people feel old).

I really love all things Fantasy and I've got so many books on my (mostly living in my head) list of things to-read that I'll be busy for the next decade or so.

Edit: I see you're planning to read Mark Lawrence, I might jump in on that as well!

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Welcome Bas. No worries about how much you participate. Drop in and out as you have time.

A few people will be reading the newest Mark Lawrence later this month.

message 119: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Hola! Saw a link to this group from Rob in one of the fantasy groups I'm a member of. Looks like a fun group, already got down on some Tower Lord discussion. Looking forward to more!

Definitely going to check out the Sanderson threads, could read about his books all day.

Welcome Scott. I do tend to spam a bit about the group. Lol.

message 121: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Haha, glad you did or I probably wouldn't have found the group!

Side bar: Ghost Story was awesome

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I think Cold Days is better. But then I didn't like Ghost Story as much as the others.

message 123: by Kat (new)

Kat | 1178 comments Hi there,

I liked your bookshelf and the name of the group, so here I am. Tired of being surrounded in real life by people who don't read at all, so last week I set out to find likeminded peeps on the interweb, and found the website. Looked promising. Well, here goes :)

Kat

message 128: by Alexa (new)

Alexa (littlelexa) | 77 comments Hello!

I stumbled upon this group since I just started reading Half a King and was looking for discussions on the book. I'm also a huge Sanderson fan and I've noticed this group has some of those. Sanderson fans should unite and talk about the cosmere all day long. :)

PS. I love the Harry Potter marathon you guys have planned! I've wanted to re-read them for a long while so I'll probably join in.

Scott (scott18044) | 9 comments Hi all :) I've seen this group flash up a few times on my home.. news-feed.. thing and so finally decided to check it out. Having seen the books that you're currently reading and the threads for other books, I thought I'd join and get involved.

message 134: by Meera (new)

Meera Hello all, I joined this group over the summer when I saw that you were going to be reading all of the HP books. I'm one of the few people that I know who hasn't read them all. I did read the first one long time ago. I thought that this group might motivate me to keep me going. Plus, I've been on a fantasy kick lately.

message 135: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Welcome Meera. I will say that unlike our other reads we're discussing the whole series in every thread, so there will likely be a lot of spoilers.

Meera Rob wrote: "Welcome Meera. I will say that unlike our other reads we're discussing the whole series in every thread, so there will likely be a lot of spoilers."

That's ok. I've seen all the movies.

message 137: by Alexa (new)

Alexa (littlelexa) | 77 comments Oh no! Don't read the first thread! Rob! Go place spoiler tags!

Alexa wrote: "Oh no! Don't read the first thread! Rob! Go place spoiler tags!"

Lol. Yeah. I was kind of reveling in the fact that we were doing full spoilers with the most famous of them.

If you've seen the movies, you just miss out on a lot of depth, but no major plot points I can think of.

message 140: by Meera (new)

Meera Yes, I would have been quite upset about the Dumbledore spoiler. Like I was when I saw the movie.

I managed to avoid it before reading it. I was sad, but not angry.

We had discussed doing it as a reread, and the idea of anyone joining who never read them all before never occurred to me.

message 142: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 157 comments Hi, my name is Michael, I've been sober for...oops wrong group. I just found the club today (can't say how). I peaked around a bit and really liked what I saw so I thought I would join up. Looking forward to being here.

Welcome again. I'm totally making Rhune a group pick when you release it. I know the group has a bunch of Riyria fans.

message 144: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 157 comments Hey thanks. That's wonderful to hear that there are Riyria fans here. So glad to hear you are excited about Rhune I'm working on the fourth and final book now...and I'm getting pretty excited about it. If you do make it a group pick, let me know whether you want me to "hang out" or "stay away" - either way I'll respect the groups wishes.

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Welcome Michael! Riyria turned out to be one of my favorite series, good to have you here! Definitely excited for Rhune

message 149: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 157 comments @Mark - thanks!

@Scott - wow what a nice thing to say. So glad you enjoyed Riyria -- and you spelled it right ;-). Now that I'm getting feedback on Rhune I'm getting even more stoked about it. I'm always anxious until I see what others think. That whole "devil whispering in your ear" thing just doesn't go away.

message 150: by Jack (new)

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) Hi, everybody. I've been a long time listener of S&L and a couple months ago I starting reading along over there. After them choosing two books in a row that I had already read, I realized I was going to probably need an alternative book group and lo and behold, you guys were way way way ahead of me. Not only that, but just scrolling through, I see great discussion going on! I'm kinda sad I missed some of the reads. I'm really thinking about getting in on the Harry Potter re-read. Anyway, can't wait to make book club friends with all of you. :)
