Andrew (ajbyrds) Hello everyone! My name is AJ and I actually have been a follower of r/books for quite some time, though my shyness keeps me from conversation. Currently I am attending uni to obtain a degree in English education where I hope to get a job teaching in high school. This came to me about a year ago when I first got back into reading--I realized that I do not want the art of literature to die, and as such wish to promote literacy via teaching.

I tend to go back and forth with my favorites, though my big three are Hemingway, Joyce, and Vonnegut. Really it tends to be whomever I am reading at the moment. Favorite book of all time? A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, which I finished recently for the first time. I can honestly say I have never cried during a book til I read this one. Funny story, actually--I obtained a copy of Brooklyn by discovering it in a trash bin at my high school a couple years back. Turns out it is a first edition printing. Life is cool, sometimes.

At this moment I am reading Franzen's The Corrections, a book I am going to take my time to read, being that I tend to rush through books for no apparent reason.

Not too sure what else to say here--just felt like making my presence known by posting something for once.

Yarp!

Ashley (icecheeseplease) Hello and welcome! It's always nice to see the lurkers come out, I hope you poke yourself into the discussions every now and again :).

Also, we have two book discussions coming up, Dune with Darliza and Fool with Annie. If you find either of those interesting we would love to have you join us.

Hi Aj! No need to be shy here :) Lurkers are always welcome.

I too, loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It still is one of my favorites, but it's been years since I read it.

The same story goes for the The Corrections. I remember enjoying it, as it is not a book to be rush. I want to read his 'new' book, Freedom If I read it anytime soon, I'll definitely add it to the book support :) I hope you enjoy the corrections as much as I did. And Welcome again Aj!

Welcome to the group, AJ! We're glad that you've made an appearance!

I love your dream about becoming a teacher so you can aide the future's literacy. It's really inspiring!

Darliza (parentheticals) | 92 comments I have a copy of The Corrections but I've never gotten 'round to it yet. Is Freedom any good? I saw a hardcover copy at a local book thriftshop for only 1USD! Might go back for it soon. :)

Welcome to the group, Aj! I love Vonnegut too and so does a few others in the group. :)
