Angel Lepire | 62 comments Has anyone else had an issue changing their Facebook fan page to a name instead of an obnoxiously long number and crazy mish-mash of symbols? I have the originally assigned name now, but when I hit 100 fans, there was a video posted on my page about how to change my name to just facebook.com/(insert choice here). However, when I go to try to change it to the title of my page, which is the title of my book, it constantly tells me I can't. The book is Trading Poisons, and I don't know if it is something about the word poison or what? Nobody else is using it, so that shouldn't be the problem. It doesn't seem to matter if I add numbers or anything like that. It just won't take it. Has anyone else had this issue? I haven't contacted FB because it says right on their help button that they don't respond to idividual emails or requests. Basically they want to know if you're having a problem, but it seems they have no intention of helping you with it.

Sharon (fiona64) Yep, Kerry's right -- except the number is 25. If you have more than 25 fans and have changed the name once from the numbers/symbols, you cannot change it again. Sorry. :-(

Angel Lepire | 62 comments No, I've never changed it at all. I've just always used whatever the name was they gave me (includes my page name & a bunch of numbers), but I was under the impression that you couldn't change it to whatever you wanted until you had at least 100 likes. That option wasn't even given to me until I got to 100. Hmmm, I'm confused...

I don't know what to tell you; most of us (I include myself) in my circle of writers changed it at 25. I can't imagine why it wouldn't let you at this point if you've never changed it.

Angel Lepire | 62 comments I'm sorry, I should be more clear on this. It WILL let me change it, just not to /Trading Poisons. That's the name of the page. I can't even think of what else to use. Sorry Sharon, I know you're trying to be helpful & I wasn't very clear. I just don't get if they have some list of banned words or something? Just a guess.

Aha! You can't have a space in it! You need to do /trading.poisons or /trading_poisons.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2274 comments I have one myself and I know it gave me the option of changing it from a number to a name but it did say I could only do it once. But as far as I know the option should be there somewhere on the page.

Angel Lepire | 62 comments OK, I've tried it again several times and I've come to the conclusion that it just won't let me use the word 'Poisons' at all. So now I'm taking suggestions about other names to use. I can't exactly use the initals from my book (sends the wrong message I think.) ;-) Other ideas??

Angel Lepire | 62 comments OK, here is my current FB page:

facebook.com/pages/Trading-Poisons/44...

I'd like to change it to:

facebook.com/TradingPoisons

However I try it, I cannot use the word 'poisons.' I've tried various different forms w/the title and a number (like TradingPoisons2013 since that's the year it was published), my name & the title, etc, and they keep saying it's not available. However nobody is using any of those names, so I don't know why it's not available. I can use my name & the word 'trading' but put poisons in there and it's always not available. I've come to the conclusion that Mark Zuckerburg has an unreasonable fear that somebody will slip something into his Yoohoo, and has blocked the word from the FB database. ;-)

Simon Wheeler (simonhughwheeler) It might be a problem with the word "poison". A writer I know had a problem with Amazon - they banned his title, "Bloody Hell, what's an Alpaca?" because they didn't like "Hell". Bloody was ok, I think. Where I come from, Australia, (ok, it started out as a penal colony for convicts) but "Hell" is hardly an offensive word to get upset about.
Can you put it all lower case, one word? tradingpoisons?
The guy's book, by the way, is a very funny and moving account of him going to Spain to set up an Alpaca farm, apart from his collection of other animals including, sadly, abandoned dogs.

Frankly, I would recommend using your name/pen name (that's what I did: http://www.facebook.com/sharon.e.cath...). That way, it isn't limited to just that one book.
