Yes! I am going to join you guys! This is actually going to be my first buddy-read! :) because of that, how exactly does it all work? Sorry, probably a dumb question! ;)
Not a dumb question at all! I remember my first buddy read haha :'). It's very easy actually, the day before the buddy read we just decide on how many chapters we're going to read and usually if no one has any preferences we just go with 5 chapters. After you've read the first 5 chapters you come back to the thread and update us on your progress, what you think so far etc.
The thing is - no one HAS to stop at 5 chapters, I've experienced not being able to put the book down in many buddy reads so, you just keep reading but be careful not to spoil anything when you're going to post your progress/thoughts. We might not be at the same chapter so just mark it with a spoiler tag and let us know what chapter it is you're referring to =)

Brianna you can start it if you want! I've looked everywhere (literally) at home and its nowhere to be found so tomorrow I'll have to check school/work/every place I went today..
I'm actually reading like 4 other books at the same time, so I might just try to get a little farther in one of them first tonight. We'll see how my mood is. :)
I'm not going to be able to start until later this week because the library copy was renewed and I couldn't get it. So my activity until then will be about zero. Sorry.

I'm also reading 3 books right now, so I'll probably be reading a little slow on this one as well. I actually just checked online and realized that I have about 12 books checked out from my library right now!However, I did start this one last night so that I could at least get my 5 chapters in. So far my thoughts are: (view spoiler)
It might just be me, but I'm also finding the descriptions of people hard to follow. They're so in-depth and lengthy that I feel like I need to draw them out or try to dumb it down! LOL It could also just be because I was tired when I was reading these first 5 chapters... :)
I'm on page 60 and so far I love it! The writing is so easy to follow and humorous, I actually really enjoy all the descriptions about characters, especially Bailey who I wish was a living character instead of a memory. I also usually hate love triangles mainly because I seem to always hate the boys in them but I like both love interest so far especially Joe. I too am really curious about what happened at chair auditions that keeps coming up, it leaves so many questions I'm dying to know about. My only complaint is Lennie, she just doesn't seem like a real person to me even if she isn't a whiny heroine like I'm used too.
I am over halfway through, I stopped at chapter 26. I agree with you Tessa about the descriptions and the writing flow. I love it so much, I've actually managed to shed a tear or two the last chapters. I don't like Toby. I just don't see (view spoiler) It's seriously getting on my nerves. She's not a replacement okay. This is not okay because it's so heartbreaking at the same time, I can't be angry at Toby...it's just so difficult to imagine what they're going through. It's scary.
Chapter 24, broke my heart. Why oh why. I knew it would happen sooner or later. I just wasn't prepared. I was begging for it to not happen. He doesn't deserve that. What is her problem....gah.
I seriously love Joe, his character, honestly whenever he was there I couldn't get this huge grin off my face. His humor and determination to get to know Lennie. I love how (view spoiler) Go Joe!!! :-)
This is so beautifully written, so many lovely quotable bits in the book!
I don't like Toby but at the very least I can sympathize with him, he went through a huge change that's the same as Lennie and he feels connected to her, however it makes you question his loyalty towards Bailey which is something I can't forget. While I may sound like a hypocrite now I only disliked Lennie more as the story progressed, it's hard to explain but I really wanted to yell at her that she wasn't the one dead and there was nothing she could have did about anything that happened (not including what she did with Toby, I was expecting a bit more willpower there). I also hate how she jerks both Joe and Toby around, as Joe says she needs to go all the way with one of them or do nothing with neither of them, and essentially they're both really great guys. I agree with Alexa that reading about Joe brought an uncontrollable smile on to my face that probably made me look deranged. I also have so many questions about Paige that I have no clue how the answers will be worked into the story.
I just started chapter 31. I really like Joe too. I feel bad (view spoiler) I'm almost done reading, so I hope my questions about Paige will be answered too! I keep going from thinking she's probably actually dead, to just really sad that she could have left her kids.

I loved it! I finished it a few days ago, it was really refreshing to see Lennie change/grow throughout the book!!Am I the only one that was relieved that whatever that was going on between Lennie and Toby stopped?! So. Glad.
It really felt wrong.
And Sarah, what did you guys think of her? To begin with I wish I could be there for Lennie....like where on earth was Sarah when Lennie needed her the most in the beginning of the book? :/

I completely agree with you. That was definitely wrong. I was really glad that they didn't let it happen again and Toby was trying to talk to Joe to let him know that there wasn't anything going on and that he should give her another chance. That made Toby a better guy.
I also agree about Sarah. She should have been there for Lennie more. I know that Lennie was ignoring her texts and calls, but if I were Sarah and my friend was going through something like that and they wouldn't talk to me, I would be way more concerned. I would have just shown up at her house instead of just accepting silence.
I think Gram definitely was right when she said that Lennie was being selfish. I kept thinking that the entire time I was reading. Yes, she lost her sister. But she wasn't the only one who lost her. I'm glad that she finally realized that.
I think the most amazing thing in the whole book was the way the grief of each character was captured and how they all dealt with it in different ways, Jandy Nelson definitely pulled off what few authors can. Toby also really redeemed himself in my eyes after he tried to talk to Joe about what happened with him and Lennie. I actually really did like Sarah even if I wanted way more character development for her. I don't think it was her fault she didn't try to reach out to Lennie, I mean if she wanted support from her she could have asked for it out right. Gram was entirely correct when it came to Lennie being selfish even if it didn't even occur to me until she pointed it out. Also, am I the only person who wanted to know way more about Paige?
