Terry (SooooManyBooks) | 1 comments Voting link didn't work for me so I came here. Sorry I missed earlier discussion. I vote for reading Seanan McGuire's Toby Daye series beginning with the first, ROSEMARY & RUE.

Sorry, I'll do better next time. This is the thread to talk about the book that won. Magic Bites

Angie Outland (angie_outland) | 15 comments Voting didn't work for me either; but I am excited about reading Magic Bites.

message 5: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) The poll ended yesterday, so it won't work now. I understand a link not working, but if the poll didn't let you vote before today it's a bug. Goodreads seems to be a hot mess lately.

message 6: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Mymudes | 11 comments Go Ilona and Andrew! Funny thing, Andrew HATES that book :)

message 7: by Angie (new)

Angie Outland (angie_outland) | 15 comments Yeah, I tried the first time the link was put up. Actually, I tried voting every day, but it never worked. These things happen; no biggy. I've been wanting to try Ilona Andrews and now I have incentive to put her book to the top of my To Read list.

message 8: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) I've asked GR about it. Not that I'll get an answer or they can do anything about it now. I can't update my reading progress on anything right now. Earlier I couldn't check my messages, now I can. They fix or update one thing and a dozen others quit working. *sigh*

message 9: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Kulczyk | 8 comments I absolutely loved this book once I found it. I remember picking it up and putting it down a few times at Borders, then I got a really good coupon that wasn't earmarked for anything so I grabbed it.

If enough people would like to read "Rosemary and Rue" we could always consider making it our Book of the Month for May. We'll just see what happens.

Right now I'm still trying to finish up some of my March books and some of my NetGalley reads that are being released in the first week of April, but I am really looking forward to reading "Magic Bites." What's really funny is I own the whole series thus far but haven't read any of them.

message 11: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) We can definitely add it to the poll for May. As a new group with all the GR bugs going on patience is def. a virtue. Check out the feedback group, it's all about the bugs. I'm not sure anything is really working right on here.

message 12: by Crystal (last edited Mar 28, 2013 07:47AM) (new)

Crystal F. (crikel) | 6 comments I have read this whole series. Am absolutely in love with the series and the characters. Hope you enjoyed them as much as I did!

message 13: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) I have read the series too, I'm looking forward to a re-read. The next book comes out sometime soon.

message 14: by Crystal (new)

Crystal F. (crikel) | 6 comments I recently re-read it just b/c I missed the characters lol....I think I may re-read Faith's books this weekend.

message 15: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) Anyone started the book?

message 16: by Christa (new)

Christa | 12 comments I love this series! Haven't reread Magic Bites in a while, so looking forward to it.

message 17: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) Okay, so we're basically at the halfway point of the month. How is everyone doing with the book?

message 18: by Tala (last edited Apr 14, 2013 12:38PM) (new)

Tala (tala2) Loving it of course. I've been reading it slow between other books to make it last the month. If not I'd have been done in a day.

etc: stupid typo

message 19: by Angie (new)

Angie Outland (angie_outland) | 15 comments I am reading it between other things as well.

message 20: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) I'm halfway through Magic Bites, and I imagine that I will finish it later this evening. I don't know why I've put off reading this for so long. It has literally sat on my bookshelf for at least the past 2-3 years and I kept looking at it and thinking that I needed to read it. I am really enjoying it, though I definitely feel that it has that first book vibe, where everything seems to happen a little slower in order to set up the world and the characters and the issues. That doesn't mean that I'm not enjoying it, because I am. The magic system is certainly interesting and I definitely like Kate as a character. I am on page 152 of 260 and I really would like more Curran because I think I need more to decide just how much I like him.

How is the reading going for everyone else?

message 21: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) Oh my goodness, this one of my all time favorite series. I re-read it when a new book comes out. My fav. scene is in this book though.

message 22: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) I own all the books...I just haven't read them. :D I imagine that now, since I've started to get into the series, I'll probably end up devouring the rest of them in a weekend or something.

message 23: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) I'm not sure if it's June or July, but that's when the next one comes out. I've had it pre-ordered for months. I'm kinda bad that way.

message 24: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) Very nice. I will most likely be completely caught up on the series by then. I like actually going to a brick-and-mortar store and buying my books. It gives me the time to browse and I might find other new series/authors at the same time.

message 25: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) I do to, but it is really hard to beat Ammy's price on most books, either eBooks or dt ones. What I'd pay over $20 for here I'd pay about $14 for at Ammy. I still go to "real" bookstores every chance I get.

message 26: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) Understandable. I go to my nearest B&N stores, and with my membership discount the prices are the equivalent to what I'd pay online...and I don't have to wait for them to be mailed, which I definitely prefer.

message 27: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) Don't have a B&N close, have to go to Joseph-Beth. Even with their discount it's still too high. Although they have a lot of author signings so it balances out for me. I think they have Molly Harper coming next month. Last year it was Kim Harrison, Jeaniene Frost, and Charlaine Harris, to name a few.

message 28: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) Very nice. I have two B&N stores within 45 minutes of my house, and I can easily spend a couple hours there so it is well worth the drive, especially on nice days when I ride my motorcycle.

message 29: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) Now I'm kinda hatin' ;) Wish I had a bike!!!!!

message 30: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) Hey, not everyone can be a motorcycle librarian, lol.

message 31: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) I've got a 4-wheeler we have lots of fun with, can that count? some? ;)

message 32: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) Well, it does have 4 wheels instead of 2...but I guess it isn't a cage (aka a car/truck/SUV), so yeah, it counts.

message 33: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) Oh Tala, I meant to ask, you said your favorite scene was in this book. Which scene would that be?

I've made it a little farther in the book and just read the big fight between the vampires and the Pack and it definitely gave me more of an opinion of Curran. I'm starting to like him more, but I still would like to see more of him.

In a little bit I'll be reading where Kate goes on that date with Crest, and I think I'm about as interested in him as Kate seems to be. I'll attempt to give him a chance, but I basically know it won't work out.

message 34: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) When she first meets Curran. The Here kitty, kitty and milk comment. I'll have to look it up to quote it correctly.

message 35: by Christa (new)

Christa | 12 comments Yes! That's my favorite, too. I love that their first encounter is so irreverent. "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty... Next time I'll bring cream and catnip toys." Kate totally embodies the "fake it till you make it" philosophy.

message 36: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) Yep! The family had no idea what was wrong with me when I just started lol. Then the looks on their faces! I couldn't stop until I had tears and a sore stomach.

message 37: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) "Here kitty, kitty" was a great one, and I also enjoyed right before that big battle with the vampires when Curran asked her "Pretty, aren't I?" and Kate responded, "Adorable."

It's just an amusing relationship.

message 38: by Tala (last edited Apr 23, 2013 12:11PM) (new)

Tala (tala2) I think that's why I love them so much. If it ain't got humor no relationship will last.

etc: my poor spelling.

message 39: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) I finished reading Magic Bites last night and it was an enjoyable first book to a series. I like the banter between Kate and Curran and I can't wait to see where that goes next. Was I disappointed that there was nothing more than a kiss in the book? Yes, however, I can also say that I like that this seems to be more of a slow building romance, which is great because that makes it feel more natural and real.

Right now I'm forcing myself not to jump into the next book because I have the monthly reads from my other book clubs to finish up, as well as a couple of my NetGalley reads to start/finish.

message 40: by Tala (new)

Tala (tala2) I liked the slow build up and the series just keeps getting better.

message 41: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) I like that they don't jump into bed with each other in the first chapter, because that always seems odd to me, unless the backstory states that they've known each other for a long time.

Magic Bites at least seems really focused on the Urban Fantasy and not as heavy in the Romance department, which is fine. I mean, I can get my romance fill with several of the other books I'm reading. I liked the world-building, and the main characters were great and I felt that they were strong but also had flaws, which makes it very realistic, and I really am looking forward to reading more (which is really good since I own the rest of the series). If I had not enjoyed this book, I would have been a little disappointed at spending the money I did on buying the rest of the series.

I'm going to wait until the revelation of the series read-through before I read more, because if it is the Kate Daniels series then I don't want to get too far ahead or anything.

message 42: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Kulczyk | 8 comments If you get a chance, purchase the Curran POVs that are available. It was really cool to read those scenes from his perspective. I've read the whole series plus Gunmetal Magic (Andrea's story) and they are all great. Anxiously awaiting Magic Rises.

message 44: by Sam (new)

Sam (librarymouse81) Oooh...I will definitely have to get the Curran POVs. They sound fun.
