Juniper (juniperx) | 237 comments In my head it sounds like Dryn-ya, with a Swedish "Y". As I can't explain it in writing I will be innovative.

Follow the link(s) and press the speaker button in the left field for the Swedish pronunciation of "Y" if you're interested;

Actually even better, to me it sounds like the word "brynja", but obviously starting with "D" instead of "B";

Mpauli, did you study Latin as well as Spanish, by any chance?

Mpauli | 246 comments It didn't study spanish at all, as the quote might show.^^
But yes, I did latin in school.

Dara (cmdrdara) | 210 comments I like this book so far. I was a little apprehensive heading back to Genabackis after being so confused there in GOTM but so far it has been good.

I actually picked up on Silverfox's identity early so I'm proud of myself for that. Also I thought Brood's ascendant status was said in GOTM but I could be wrong.

I wonder who the standard bearer is as well. Also really liking Korlat. She's quiet but so wise. And in my head she is very striking.

Deano | 41 comments I think I'm getting in to the swing of these books now
As I haven't had any trouble keeping up with what's happening.
Lots of history of people and races still to learn
But I'm really enjoying this one.
Lots of witty remarks that you could easily miss if your not paying attention.
There's just so much I've got to learn about.
Like the crippled god, burn and her (induced) slumber. The azath houses and how they seem to control everyone with their deck of dragons.
Perhaps control is not the right word. But everyone is represented by a card and the cards are sorted in to houses and the azath have just decided Ganoes Paran will be the 'Master of the Deck'.

So many questions !!!!

Deano | 41 comments Oh forgot to say
Cotllion was the assassin of house shadow

But now it's kalam!!!
Didn't he get a whole new family to look after or am I getting confused on characters again -.-

Or is the card saying Cotillion is using him as another puppet ?
For every answer another five questions appear

@Deano - the answer to your questions is yes - I think.

Deano | 41 comments Lol
Are you continuing in the cryptic vain of the empire
Or you've forgot

Yes.

Lol. No - I think you got things right mostly.

Deano | 41 comments Hey I'll take mostly
I didn't have a clue with gotm. Yet I can't wait to re-read it to learn all I missed.

Conor | 78 comments I'm tempted to re-post my 'Why Coltaine is awesome and all the haters can suck it' post from the DG thread in response to MPauli. I won't though. Hand slowly drifts toward key-board to re-post... stops at the last minute*. It's the most recent comment (at time of writing) on the Chapter 21 summary if anyone wants to read the whole thing but the executive summary is: Coltaine is da man.

I'm really hoping we get more of an explanation on the Jaghut-Imass wars soon. The motivation for the Imass to begin a worldwide campaign to annihilate an entire race at extreme cost to themselves seems very thin atm. I appreciate that they aren't really 'human' so their motivations are supposed to be somewhat inscrutable but most campaigns of genocide on that scale have complex, acrimonious backgrounds whereas the Imass seem to have no real motivation whatsoever. Also throw in the fact that in order to achieve their aim of wiping out an entire race for no apparent reason they had to first sustain extremely high casualties (the Imass graves Duiker saw in DG) and later TURN THEMSELVES INTO ZOMBIES (if an entire race taking part in a ritual to transform themselves into undead warriors doesn't deserve a caps-lock nothing does). I agree with what a load of people are saying on this forum about Erikson's skill as a writer being demonstrated by his ability to make certain Imass (Tool) sympathetic though.

DangerBin | 64 comments @Conor totally agree with you and totally disagree with Mplauli's "fanboy" criticism

Lots of narrative (tell, don't show) in this chapter. Not my favourite, but then I've never liked the mysterious child with knowledge trope.

Massive unrelenting info dump.
