There's also a tie to the new Dark Artifices series, because the sword Elias Carstairs tries to give to Will is the sword that the new protagonist (Emma Carstairs) uses. She's a direct descendent of Elias.

In addition, the scene where Gabriel is trying to tell everyone that Benedict is a worm matches almost perfectly to Isabelle breaking the news that Simon is a rat.

Well....that makes sense because according to the family tree Isabelle Lightwood is Cecily and Gabriel's great great granddaughter. It was passed down :)

I love everyone's posts! This book was fantastic. I think I am going to read TMI again because I dont remember all the little details about Brother Zacariah aka JEM. Also, I think it is so cool how WIll and Tessa are Jace's great great grandparents. The family tree that they added on the book cover really helped me understand the characters and the links between them all. Someone above mentioned a link between Clary and Tessa's grandmother....I didnt think they were linked?? Did I miss something?

Oh, I did realize that the angel Ithuriel that was trapped in Tessa's Clockwork necklace is also the angel that Valentine trapped in MI. Poor angel.....

I think we'll see Jem in CoHF, not Tessa. The epilogue (of CP2) was set in 2008, after the events of CoHF, and Jem tells Tessa he has a story about Herondales, Fairchilds, and Lightwoods. So I definitely think Brother Zachariah will be in it. Tessa and Jem might be in The Dark Artifices though.
