There will probably be better solutions, but you could add a librarian note to each work giving the full title or just a "Don't combine with..."
I would probably just drop the parenthesis in the names."Rome's Enemies 1: Germanics and Dacians"
is as readable as
"Rome's Enemies (1): Germanics and Dacians"

Rome's Enemies (1): Germanics and Dacians
Rome's Enemies (2): Gallic and British Celts
Rome's Enemies (3): Parthians and Sassanid Persians
...with further parenthetical comments denoting series information and format. Of course, with the parenthetical numbers, all three show up on the combine page as:
Rome's Enemies

But, those parenthesis are part of the printed title of the books. Any thoughts on keeping that intact while reducing confusion on the GoodReads display?
(...I think I'd better start looking up the other places where Osprey used this pattern....)
