Jennifer Bradley (Jennnanigans) | 13 comments Joined not too long ago - 37! Most before I joined the group though, heh. It's a nice eclectic list!

Kirstin | 7 comments Sorry Felicia, I just saw your comment! :) I love the series so far. I run a dog grooming shop with my mom and our conversations all day long are coming up with more and more theories. The series is so well written that there are endless guesses as to what is going to happen with so much going on. The only problem is that it is going to be a long time before the series is completed.

Thank you! I guess I may check in on the group in time to vote on August's books!

Michelle Nogales (mnogales) Aha--thank you--I will check that link!

No problem! (Had to go back to see what I'd written, haha :D)
I read it alongside my mum too! We live in different parts of the country, but she calls me every Sunday, and we would just stay on the phone, talking about Game of Thrones forever! I finished book 5 not long ago, and I just really love them. I think book 2 is a little slow-going, but the rest of them are really good.
I just hope that Martin want fall down and die or something before finishing! (And you know, generally I don't hope anyone will fall down and die!)

message 306: by Kirstin (new)

Kirstin | 7 comments Yeah, I know what that's like. Even though I am not done with the series I know all about it because that's what we talk about all day. She is actually on her second go around and is catching a lot that was missed the first time.

message 307: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) I just joined today. I've read 15, currently reading 1 (The Three-Body Problem) and have 3 on my bookshelf to be read this summer.

message 308: by Jo (new)

Jo (glitchyspoons) | 39 comments I don't believe I've read any this year. So far all the books I've chose to read have a long waiting list. Glad to see that I may run into someone local interested in the same books I am..but damn.

message 309: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I hit #72 today. I would really love to make 100 this year but it's just not going to happen.

message 310: by Sandi (new)

Sandi | 145 comments I am currently at #87 in the last two years. I have read a handful of the others in the past but I am not going to count them until I reread them to see how they stack up against the current crop.

message 311: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments I am at 142, hopefully I can hit 150 by the end of the year and then shoot for maintaining 75% read. What kind of celebration are we going to have when the bookshelf hits 200? Maybe have a quote trivia contest, one from each book although Kim is the only one with a chance of winning.

message 312: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments That's fantastic Hank! I figure it's going to take me about ten years to read them all. 150 is quite awesome.

message 313: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments I was going to try to read them all but the last several I read, which were low on the now defunct listopia list, were quite terrible and as you keep saying, there isn't even enough time to read all the good books, much less the mediocre or bad.

message 314: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments That's very true. It's just not worth reading the terrible stuff.

message 315: by Coralie (last edited Jul 30, 2015 04:58PM) (new)

Coralie | 106 comments I am currently on 149 but I have read one of next month's books so that will take my total up to 150.

message 316: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments Awesome Coralie, are you going to try to read all of them or just the best ones?

message 317: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 106 comments I hope to read all the Science Fiction. I'm not so sure about the Fantasy.

message 318: by Louise (new)

Louise Tebbutt | 32 comments Hank wrote: "Awesome Coralie, are you going to try to read all of them or just the best ones?"

I'm finding it tricky deciding which books on our shelf are the best ones though. I would really love to see what the average ratings are for the books on our group bookshelf, by just using the group members ratings. (I hope that makes sense!)

message 319: by Marti (new)

Marti Dolata | 13 comments I've just joined and have read 60% of the list. (That I remember!) :-P
Been reading SFF since the sixties. Many in the TBR pile.

message 320: by Ilona (new)

Ilona (Ilona-s) | 77 comments I have read 75/191. And one more if The Last Unicorn is supposed to be the novel and not the graphic comic adaptation.

message 321: by Sandi (last edited Aug 18, 2015 03:28PM) (new)

Sandi | 145 comments I have been wanting what Louise has been suggesting for a while since the general book ratings is kinda skewed. And as for me, I am determined to read all the books on the list since only by exposure to new, previously unconsidered subgenres can I truly determine how much I like or dislike it.

I have read 100/193, most in the last year and a half. When I started, I was firmly in the camp of loving the scifi classics. I have discovered a lot of really great authors since joining this group.

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments Sandi wrote: "I am determined to read all the books on the list since only by exposure to new, previously unconsidered subgenres can I truly determine how much I like or dislike it"

I will second that comment. By somewhat forcing myself to read all of them, I have read far more broadly than I used to and found some amazing gems (for me) on the bookshelf that I wouldn't have read otherwise. There was some non-gems of course but mostly they (the ones I read) were all good if not great.

I won't read all of them but have managed a decent chunk.

Sandi | 145 comments About The Last Unicorn

Okay... I am confused. When I first joined this group last year, I downloaded the list of bookclub books and, as Ilona noted, The Last Unicorn was shown as the Peter Beagle original version. Now the bookclub list shows the graphic novel version The Last Unicorn #1 by Peter Gillis. The discussion list still links to the Peter Beagle book, none of the discussions referred to the graphic novel adaptation, and much was made of the book's popularity and place in the fantasy genre so - what happened? This also happened on the Listopia list. I hate to bug our hard-working moderators but could someone fix this?

Most likely, at the time that book was picked for the shelf, the graphic novel version was incorrectly combined with the original. They have since been separated so the edition that was picked ended up being the wrong one. It will take a moderator to fix this on the group shelves....

message 325: by E.J. (last edited Aug 27, 2015 12:23PM) (new)

E.J. Heijnis (ejheijnis) | 13 comments I just joined this group, and I've only read 16 of these. I'm happy to have so many recommendations, even if I'll be stuck finishing the Black Company books for the foreseeable future. Without spoiling anything, the cliffhanger at the end of She is the Darkness is pretty brutal.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I've read a mere 8

I've updated the bookshelf with the correct version. What Chris says is the most likely issue.

message 328: by Sandi (new)

Sandi | 145 comments Awesome and thank you for your hard work in maintaining all this glorious insanity. I figured it was something like that since it inexplicably changed not so long ago.

message 329: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1620 comments Mod
I joined about a month ago. SF and Fantasy are my preferred genres, so I was surprised that only 29 books on the shelf are previous read for me. On the plus side, I was able to pick out 20 books I haven't read yet for the Read All The Books challenge. I'll get caught up eventually. A lot of the books I have considered reading before; several I even own already. Others, like the novel version of Flowers for Algernon, I didn't even know existed. It should be fun.

message 330: by Michele (new)

Michele | 1215 comments Just joined! Have read 71 of the books on the group bookshelf, is that the list we're counting?

message 331: by Richard (new)

Richard Buro (rwburo1outlookcom) | 121 comments Michele, the group's bookshelf is exactly the one to follow in this discussion thread.

message 332: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 11 comments Just joined the group, so will look at catching up on the list. Have read 47/195 pre-joining :)

message 333: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1499 comments I have 2 to go. Need to finish The Stand and In the Night Garden.

message 334: by Kai (new)

Kai Herbertz (KaiHerbertz) | 3 comments I guess I need to read more - I've only read 13 from that list...

message 335: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1499 comments I'm all caught up including the November books. Have to wait and see what December brings.

message 336: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) Much to my pleasant surprise, I have read 32 books on this list.

message 337: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) Oops, missed a few: 36!

message 338: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 3 comments Wow, I only read 30, and I don't even have most of them labelled as read on goodreads :)

message 339: by Just Elise (new)

Just Elise (justelise) | 17 comments I've only read 23 (+3 DNF) (+1 ? - The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales? Seriously? Aren't there a lot of different versions of some of the same stories mixed in there? I've read a lot of them, but not all of them. The copy I have has over 600 pages. I can't read it cover-to-cover. Fairy tale overdose.) So 23-ish/199. I have a lot of catching up to do. A ton of them are on my tbr list.

message 340: by Bargle (new)

Bargle | 50 comments New member Bargle here. I've read 33 of the current 201 books on the list. Looking forward to finding some new additions to the TBR list, as if it isn't already big enough.

message 341: by Lioth (new)

Lioth | 29 comments End of the Year update : 45 (many pre Goodreads that I have to reread one day :)

message 342: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 555 comments For some reason I always assumed I hadn't read any but actually I have read 34. Not a great number but I'm working on it.

message 343: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 781 comments I am now up to 95 group books read.

message 344: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette | 3 comments Read around 39. A couple would be DNFs.

message 345: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly I decided to recheck my count and now at 48. I added 8 this year. I am like a butterfly and flit around until something catches my attention and not because it is on the list. If I ever read the entire bookshelf, it will be pure luck and not by design.

message 346: by Sarah (last edited Jan 01, 2016 12:54PM) (new)

Sarah Stevens (sarah957) | 4 comments I've read 81 sci fi/fantasy books this year, but a lot of them aren't on the list. I also read several on the list back in 2014
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 347: by Julia (new)

Julia | 957 comments I've read 38 science fiction books in 2015, 12 of them were on this list. I've now 74 books total from the list.

message 348: by Tessa (new)

Tessa in Mid-Michigan (asata) I've read 80, although some I haven't marked as read because it was 40years ago. Surprisingly, I couldn't finish the challenge I set myself here last year--two short. One of those times when I had to pull back and re-read favorites for awhile...Maybe this year?

message 349: by Amber (new)

Amber Littleton (amber_littleton) | 28 comments I've only read 20 on the group list so far, but most of my to-read list is on the group list. All of it is fantasy, so I'm hoping to add some sci-fi in this year!

message 350: by Karen (new)

Karen (librarykatz) | 262 comments I'm pleasantly surprised to see that I've read 29. :)
