Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Welcome DOOD! lol. (Even guys like romance, no?)

message 106: by Kate (new)

Kate I'd like to suggest The Bone Season (Scion, #1) by Samantha Shannon , not out till 20/08/2013 but the author is being hailed as the new JK Rowling (big shoes to fill) and one comment I read about it was "like The Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but for adults". I'll definitely be looking forward it!

message 107: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments The House of Hades (Heroes of Olympus, #4) by Rick Riordan the cover of the 4th part in the series was released in May :)

message 111: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I think The Rosie Project will be on the list The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion . It's already been picked up by publishers in 26 different countries and is a PWeekly favourite.

It's wonderful; I just finished it ~ 5 stars.

My review's here if you want a bit more info; no spoilers http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

(I had to edit this 3 times, yeesh!)

message 113: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I wouldn't bet against you Cherene :-). I like how the cover kept with the other cover themes in the series.

Lynn -- I'm a little more than halfway through NOS4A2, and highly recommend it. Joe Hill is definitely his father's son!

The Rosie Project is my favorite book of the year so far out of the 97 I have read so far! I absolutely loved it. 5 stars for me also!

message 118: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Nowhere But Home by Liza Palmer is an absolute delight! It hasn't gotten a lot of press but everyone I know that has read it has given it 4 to 5 stars. May be the sleeper hit of 2013 and should definitely be nominated.

My review/thoughts are here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...

Amanda, if you loved The Rosie Project I think you would adore Nowhere But Home :-)

message 124: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I'm always amazed at the magic in books and storytelling and how each of us can read the same books and have completely different views on them. I think that's what makes reading and sharing on reading so wonderful; Different tastes, different perspectives.

message 126: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine (saanichlori) I'm just reading the latest from Louise Penny, How the Light Gets In - it's wonderful, and includes characters from all the previous books in the series. I would nominate that one.

message 127: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Valerie, I think you mean Inferno (Robert Langdon, #4) by Dan Brown for Mystery :-)

message 128: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 411 comments Cathie, you are correct.

I totally mean Inferno. I clicked the wrong button. Grrr. Although, why Da Vinci Code is at the top of the list when I search for Inferno, I just don't know. LOL.

ally  ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 1002 comments Since I agree with so many books that are already posted, I'll post for the underdog! I hope to be able to vote for;
Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis Temple of a Thousand Faces by John Shors
Bait by J. Kent Messum Vicious by Victoria Schwab Help for the Haunted by John Searles
All fantastic! ☆☆☆☆☆

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Lynn, thanks for the link, I'm curious about nominees and winners already :)

message 139: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Here are the rules for the nominees:
Books published for the first time in the United States in English between November 26, 2012, and November 16, 2013, are eligible for the 2013 Goodreads Choice Awards.

We analyze statistics from the 250 million books added, rated, and reviewed on the site in 2013 to nominate 15 books in each category. Opening round official nominees must have an average rating of 3.50 or higher.

A book may be nominated in no more than one genre category, but can also be nominated in the Goodreads Author category. Only one book in a series may be nominated per category. An author may receive multiple nominations within a single category if he or she has more than one eligible series or more than one eligible stand-alone book.

Hi! While I'm slightly disappointed that once again the cutoff date is after the nominations have begun (wouldn't it make more sense to restrict it to books published until today?), I guess it was expected after last year...

That is curious and doesn't make sense to me either. Have you ever got in touch with Goodreads to ask why Andrea (not that they would necessarily answer you but no harm in asking I suppose)?
