Partials Buddy Read!

btw what (view spoiler)[ is the Isolation War? Is it ever mentioned in the book? I don't think so, so I am really curious where that war was about. Just like RM, I still haven't found what it means. It must be an abrevation for something, right? (hide spoiler)]

I finished! Omg this books is awesome, five stars from me! OK first Lolita's question about the Isolation War. From the little mentions of it, I think it's (view spoiler)[ a war with China, the first war in which the Partials were used to fight for the U.S., which the U.S. won. Then, after that, came the Partials War which the Partials obviously won, either wholly or partly because of RM devastating the people. What I still don't understand is why RM didn't wipe out the population sooner, as soon as Partials started being used in war. We still never really found out where RM came from, who created it, etc, only that the Partials have a pheromone that can cure it. (hide spoiler)]

Now on to the book as a whole (view spoiler)[ Wowwwww!! I'm so so so glad that the things that I took to be unrealistic parts of the plot were intentional and explained later. Everything was, really. Like why Kira was chosen to research Samm, why they were willing to let him hang around so much, the 5 days, etc. All a set up for the explosion they caused to frame on the Voice. Brilliant! And I was pretty sure Samm would betray her, but I'm OK with how he did it and that he eventually helped them. I just didn't understand how he was "forced" to obey because of the hierarchy and then suddenly able to break through it and help them. Anyone get that? Also awesome that Kira is a Partial, didn't see that coming at all! Although looking back on it, there were clues. She recognized the Partials were in the hall when they first ran into them before they caught Samm. Only a Partial could have sensed that. And I was suspicious of her running about with third-degree burns...I guess another clue! So much more to come in this series, really really awesome start :) (hide spoiler)]

On Marcus: (view spoiler)[ Although he pissed me off when he was so useless and unhelpful in the beginning, I think he really redeemed himself. I felt REALLY bad for him in the end, but at the same time thought he should have fought with Kira more to go with her. If she really loved him, she might've eventually caved in. All in all though, I'm not sure I ever really believed their romance, except maybe when they sort of made up in the middle of the book. (hide spoiler)]

On dead heroes: (view spoiler)[ Jayden! I teared up when he was carrying Kira and getting shot in the back. I could see it so vividly, and more importantly, feel it. Amazing scene, wish he didn't have to die :( (hide spoiler)]

On the Senate: (view spoiler)[ I get the whole treaty with the Voice and the Senate, but they honestly let Hobbs stay in power? That makes the least sense of everything. It was his leadership that almost screwed EVERYTHING up! Get rid of him! Although I guess he'll be the father of Isolde's kid, that should be interesting! (hide spoiler)]

I finished my reread today! Still a five star read for me as well! (view spoiler)[ David, you were so smart to pick up on all that stuff...I was a little stumped why Kira was the one doing the research, but I didn't pick up on anything else! I also had no idea she was a Partial!
I loved Samm, even when he sort of betrayed Kira. He did rescue her eventually. I also really liked Marcus, and felt sorry for him a lot. I think he backed away from Kira for awhile because he was realizing she wasn't as in love with him as he was with her!
Still a lot of questions--mainly who created Kira, and what was her purpose? Also her Nandita? Was that her name? Where did she go?
Will the Partials now attack them? How are they going to get more of "the cure?"
And what happened to Samm? (hide spoiler)]

I have read 85% so far, I was too tired to finish the book yesterday evening (view spoiler)[ those plot twists where really good. I was so surprised we found out that the Senate put that bomb there that almost killed Kira and Samm. I did think the Senate was evil, but I hadn't expected this. And the last part I read was were they found out Kira is a Partial. Wow, I want to know more (hide spoiler)] I think I will finish this book today. I really want to read more. I also plan on ordering the sequel very soon.

I just finished Partials and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I gave it 4 stars, because of some small issues with the story and mainly because of the lack of character depth and development. Here is my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I just read someone else review and she mentioned (view spoiler)[ that Kira takes the blood of marcus to test at the beginning of the story. But it is never explained why she didn't take her own blood. I didn't realize all these hints at first, but when you're looking back there are indeed quite some hints that Kira is a Partial. I assume when re-reading this book, you pick those things up better. (hide spoiler)]

I'm good!! I'm almost done with Hallowed! I should finish by tomorrow with time to spare! :) Then I'll get back into Partials so I can at least have it reread by Fragments buddy read. Heheheh.. Soooo many books, so little time!

Plus, my schedule will lighten up again (my normal 55 to 60 hours rather than 70 - 80 hours a week) in April, so I should be back to normal!!

Not even finished yet (almost, on part 11 of 12 audio version) and I can't wait to get my hands on Fragments. This is truly the best book I've read in awhile. Just finished it. Wow. Just, wow. Definite 5 stars. My thoughts:

On the plot: (view spoiler)[ This thing just kept getting more and more complex. Not hard to follow at all, just a lot of twists and it seemed like things were coming out nowhere. This thing is anything but predictable. (hide spoiler)]

On Kira: (view spoiler)[I am absolutely over the moon about how analytical this girl is! She is focused, flawed, breakable, and yet can think in a crisis. She was believable. I followed her thought processes every time. Although some saw her trip to Partial land as a rash decision, I never thought that was true simply because of her rationale. And that scene with her on the table getting injected was so scary I could feel it happening. (hide spoiler)]

On Marcus: (view spoiler)[ What a great guy. Although I understood why he didn't get the girl, I think he was just what she needed - on his terms. I never felt like he was used or manipulated by Kira. He just loves her for who she is, and accepts her. He's not a pushover at all; I think the whole situation where he didn't come to see her when she got back from the trip to Partial territory showed that.But he welcomed her back, which rang true for me. He's so honest. And funny. (hide spoiler)]

On the extras: (view spoiler)[ I knew somebody was going to die, and I hated that it was Jayden. What a wonderful guy. Madison was ok, and Haru (sp?) was what I'd expect from a new dad who's terrified. Owen was ok; I loved Isolde. The Senate people kind of all ran together for me, since I was listening rather than reading. (hide spoiler)]

My problems: (view spoiler)[None of any consequence, really. I thought the Partial doctor explained a whole lot more than someone really would in that situation, especially when she said she put little credence in Kira's medical training. I got that the Senate wanted to set up Kira to fail, but that did seem a bit of a stretch (David, I'm with you on that one). (hide spoiler)]

What I loved: (view spoiler)[ This story focused on everything. I got characters with depth, a convoluted plot that had my head spinning, good, believable, accurate science, complicated but believable political intrigue, and awesome adventure. The gunfight scenes alone were amazing. (hide spoiler)]

Fabulous review! (view spoiler)[ I thought that RM was clearly engineered by Paragen. I wonder if it was a mistake, or maybe if they thought that they could control it since they also controlled the Partials. Sounds like somebody wanted to take over the world. As for Samm not being able to help Kira - he did say that the doctor was "really strong." He'd been trying all along to fight her - maybe his resolve got stronger and stronger as he stood there. Maybe Kiras pheramones helped him? On the romance between Kira and Marcus - I felt like that was more of a solid background thing rather than a developing somewhere thing. Clearly they loved each other. The way it all played out reminded me of Hunger Games. I'm glad I'm invested in the characters but not in their romance. They seem to accept it for what it is. And Jayden! Total hero, I'm in love, whyyyyy did he have to die? (wailing and gnashing of teeth!) I loved when he told Kira "get up!" He just never gave in. What a guy. (hide spoiler)]

I am SO glad I picked this up again to read. I don't know what was wrong with me the first time, but the next time I'm willing to give something a second go, I'm definitely doing it. This was also true with for me. Thank goodness for all of you friends who review these books so accurately. you have my undying trust!

Thinking maybe Hawaii. Just me, my Nook and I! And drinks with little umbrellas! If anyone has any suggestions, I'm listening! I've been to Mexico and the Caribbean several times. I would definitely recommend Maui, and Ulua Beach is my fav. My daughter is named after Makena Landing (her name is Makenna and she's 22 - before that name got so popular and everyone stole it!). I am partial to Wailea, but the beaches north of Keihi are nice as well. Kaanapali is really built up, so we avoided it - and if you go, be sure to have lunch or dinner at Mama's Fish House.

I ordered the sequel already, but it probably will take another 2 weeks before my copy get's here. So if everyone else is willing to wait that long I would love to join the buddy read of the sequel.

Why I like him--This man just seems brilliant to me. His YA dystopian book was my favorite for this genre of the year. He is really good at setting up the story, and slowly revealing things along the hero's journey...the whole thing was just brilliant!

I'm at 49% now and I am so into this book. Really, really good! (view spoiler)[I am super intrigued by Samm the Partial. I agree with what some of you have already said, I think he's telling the truth that they didn't release RM. Which makes a lot of sense if you think about it. If they were decimating the humans, why resort to that? I also suspect a love interest there, but I'm not sure about that. I just read through Kira and Marcus's make-up so it seems like there still good for now. (hide spoiler)]

One thing I suspected from the very beginning was that Kira herself was a partial. I have almost nothing to back up the theory, it just seems like a possible twist, but who knows.

And my over-aching assumption is that the senate or certain peoples within the senate are evil and lying to the masses. Cuz, hey, it's a dystopian novel, right? I haven't quite figured out motivations yet though, so I'm very eager to see how it all plays out.

Anyway...I'm loving it!
