Samantha (samanthab237) | 61 comments I was literally just going to ask the same question as Dr. - I was sure the 2016 one was available before Jan 1st but maybe I was wrong!

message 452: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments It's always a little bit of a "hurry up" feeling with the Goodreads widget, but as much as we want to get a head start, Goodreads sticks to the calendar. :)

Mary Pat | 2186 comments Greetings, All!

Just a quick heads up to let you know we will be archiving 2016 member folders today. If you bookmarked it, the bookmark should continue to work. If not, you can find your 2016 Member Corner folder in the ARCHIVE 2016 - Member Corners or just click here!

message 454: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments The same applies for the 2016 personal challenge threads!

Leona (mnleona) | 139 comments Kara wrote: "Hi Evelyn! It's up to each member how they want to count rereads. Some people do, and others don't. I personally don't, but some of the other mods do. Feel free to do it whichever way works better ..."

Thanks for the answer. I pulled a book off my shelf but since I did not review it, I want to re-read. Leona

message 456: by Christie (new)

Christie Vasquez | 37 comments I just updated my 2017 reading challenge but not sure if I did it correctly. I added a new comment - stating 1/52 and listed the book. I doing the Popsugar reading Challenge 2017.

message 457: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Yup, that works! Next time Kadijah updates the participants list, your progress will be shown. :)

message 458: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Yep Christie. I will try and update it today, if not tomorrow!

message 459: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Kolle Am I missing any post where it mentions the book for January?

message 460: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Cindy, our book for January is American Gods: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments This isn't so much a question as a statement, but there is this person that has been leaving spam comments/ promotional links on several threads... being new to Goodreads I wasn't sure if it was just a case of flagging the comments or if the group can do more?

Where are they doing this. We do not allow spamming in our group, and I will delete the member to keep them from doing this. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the year, us Mods are very busy and we can't catch everything, so we really appreciate members like you letting us know.

If you could just give me a name of one thread, I could look into this. Thank you.

If you count it as a book, then we do! I know that I count Audiobooks. I listen while I crochet and knit, and I take that time very seriously.

Thanks, I commute about an hour to work each day so that helps!

Happy New Year!!!

Mary Pat | 2186 comments Ras Tazie wrote: "Do audiobooks count? For reading challenge"

Absolutely! I listen to books quite a bit because of my daily commute. (I do try to always listen to an unabridged version so that I am hearing it exactly as it is on paper.)

Hey Kadijah, sorry for the late answer.. (I was.. well, sleeping :)
I guess the comments I had seen have already been deleted, as has the user (Raihana Akter) , as I cannot find them any longer.

I think you Mods are doing a fantastic job! I've had the same role (in a different setting) and remember how time demanding it was and the amount of work it took :) So, thanks for all you do :)

No worries Kara :)
I did have a feeling of "woah that was a trippy dream" when I woke up and they were gone, but it soon passed as logic settled in my mind after the morning coffee!

message 471: by Paul (new)

Paul Wright Hi there,

I know I have just joined this little group but I have just seen how much work and reading I have to get through this year, with regards to my degree in History. So can you please remove me from this challenge for the time being as I don't think I will have a great deal of time to read for pleasure as such. Thank you and sorry for being a pain.

And I don't think I will have a great deal of time to read for pleasure this coming year. Thank you in advance and sorry for being a pain.

Hi Paul!

Do you want me to remove your thread or remove you from the goup all together. You can also lower your goal of you want to. It's up to you. Good luck with your History Degree :)

message 474: by Paul (new)

Paul Wright Can you please remove me from the group for the time being. And thank you, it's a six year course as I am doing it part time.

The great thing about us Mods is most of us live in different time zones, so I was able to send a message to the others and we were able to get taken care of. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

message 476: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (persistentlily) I tried to start a "new topic" to place my challenge updates on, as requested on the start up email after joining. Every time I try to do so, it tells me that I need to verify my email and password...but gives me no way to actually do that. Suggestions? I've been trying since I got the original email and am very frustrated.

message 477: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments We have had that problem numberous times and each time I can't remember how members solved it. Anyone that can chime in? It's an issue with goodreads.

message 478: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Hi Tracey! You can click here to re-send the email verification request if you didn't get it or can't find it.

message 479: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (persistentlily) Problem solved. Thank you Winter and Cassandra.

message 480: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments Hi, I just have a quick question. Will the Serial Reader Challenge thread be updated anytime soon? I know you mods are all very busy (and we appreciate all the work you do!) but it's getting confusing having to scroll through all the comments to find my progress.

Thank you!

message 481: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Hi Catherine :) I'm sure it will be updated as soon as possible. Unfortunately it's very busy at this time of year and we have a lot of new members and lots of signing up for challenges. It will calm down after a while and it won't be that many posts.

What I like to do myself and it's the easiest for to update for leaders. I have one post with my challenge and I only update that post. Unless someone delete something it will be the same comment every time. You can note the page and which number your comment has. The every now and then I go into the challenge and update it also with a new comment saying something like : Winter 9/11

Hope that helps a little. Enjoy your series!:)

message 482: by Mie (last edited Jan 09, 2017 11:50AM) (new)

Mie | 2164 comments Hi Winter.
I read somewhere, that it would be too much work for challenge leaders to go back and check everybody's original post...? Maybe it was in another group, but I could imagine the workload being the same.

Anyway, I was under the impression, that your post no. stays the same, even if other people delete their posts :-)

message 483: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Hi :)

If you write it like this: Mie 3/20

Then I will go to my list and just write that in there. If you update your original post then I'm looking at that as something that might be benedicial for other readers, escpecially in challenges like say I SPY and similar were there's not always as easy to find your books.

But if you just tell me "updated message ... " that takes a lot of time yes. But no matter how you do it we will still update. The first one is just less time consuming :)

Did that explain it?:)

message 484: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments Sure :-)
I just wanted to update in whatever way you found easiest - the effort you and the other mods put into this group and all the challenges is truly amazing, and I am a big fan!!!
Thanks for that :-D

message 485: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments Hi Winter, thanks for the info. I've been updating my original post but also putting in a new note with my progress (others are doing that as well) but I changed my original post to now have my progress listed there.

Also, just as an FYI since Mie just asked about it, the original message number does NOT stay the same if people delete previous posts. I know my message number started out at 86, then was at 85 and is now at 84. Not a big deal, but I just thought I'd mention that in case people found it confusing. There are a LOT of posts on that thread already (and it's only the 9th of January)!!

message 486: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments No it does not, that's why we really wish for people not to delete even though they withdraw for a challenge. Makes ita lot easier for everyone :)

message 487: by Kelly B (new)

Kelly B (kellybey) Hi! I have a question about the challenges. If I sign up for several challenges, and then read one book that fits the criteria for two or more of the challenges, can I count that one book for more than one challenge?

message 488: by Mary Pat (new)

Mary Pat | 2186 comments Kelly B wrote: "Hi! I have a question about the challenges. If I sign up for several challenges, and then read one book that fits the criteria for two or more of the challenges, can I count that one book for more ..."

Absolutely! One book can count for many challenges but you cannot use the same book more than once in a single challenge.

message 489: by Kelly B (new)

Kelly B (kellybey) Thank you:-)!

message 490: by Jae (new)

Jae | 30 comments Can you explain to me why my reading total has decreased from 7 to 3 overnight? I have checked all the dates started/ finished and they are all correct as originally entered. It seems as though the bar graph total is frozen on 3 as I have entered my most recently read book this evening (bringing the total to 8) and the bar graph as remained on 3.

message 491: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Unfortunately no, that's very weird. Maybe other members would know?

I have had a weird thing too. One of my books doesn't show progress bar when I update it.

Probably bugs, maybe goodreads help group would know if it is a known issue. I can't link it from my phone, if you search groups it should be easy to find or maybe someone can link it :)

message 493: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Thank you Lisa :)

message 494: by Pat (new)

Pat Bryan | 98 comments Hi Kara-again-i only have a mobile and cant record my completed books anywhere.Cant bring up the currently reading option and though I have tagged some recommendations as "read" not showing on my page.
Pat.Bryan

message 495: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Hi Pat! Some features are only available on the desktop version. You can use the desktop site on a mobile browser. Here's a help link that explains it.

For books to show up in the Goodreads challenge widget, the "date read" for that book needs to be in 2017.

message 496: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Thank you all for your questions. Keep them coming. I know that some of the yearly challenges took awhile to update, so thank you for your patience. I am letting you all know that I search through all the original posts and the recent posts for my updates. Everything is dated, so that's what I use as my guide.

message 497: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 375 comments Not sure if this is the best place for this, but I'm gonna ask here anyways! lol

Is the February: Earth Challenge the only monthly challenge for February?

message 498: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12941 comments there are usually two challenges a month I think if i read the challenge idea thread correctly we will either see something by tommrrow or by the end of next week.

message 499: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Usually we aim for two challenges a month, and this month is no exception. We try to post challenges around the 25th of each month, but sometimes they're a little early or late.

I'm actually on my way to post the second one now. :)
