Joanie | 714 comments Since you are all part of my little goodreads family I thought I'd share with you all that I'm pregnant with my second child! I'm 16 weeks today and things have been going well so far. My son will be 3 in July and this baby is due in September-we're all really excited. Of course being pregnant means I'm not making much headway on my books-I keep falling alseep but if that's the worst problem I have I guess I can't complain!

Joanie | 714 comments Thanks all! I'll try reading Shakespeare to the baby however I don't know how much I'll be able to read before I fall asleep! When I was pregnant with my son Howard Stern had just started on Sirius and I was listening to him all the time (I know, guilty pleasure.) I was half convinced my son was going to be born thinking that was my voice he was hearing all the time or that his first word was going to be a swear or something! Maybe I'll try a different approach with this one!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Congratulations, Joanie!

Katie Flora Wilkins (kflora) | 0 comments Read, read, read as much as you can now and after he's born. Even if it's adult-appropriate books, he'll be lulled by your voice as you read.

My mom and I had a lot of problems, much too long to go into here. Yet, nearly all the bad history is wiped away as she encouraged me to read by the time I was 3 years old. As I grew older, she NEVER censored what I was reading. Because of this, with special permission from the school board, I was able to enter the 1st grade although I was only 5 years old. While in school I never scored high in math skills, but I was always in the 99th percentile for reading comprehension.

I always emphasize to those who don't read well or are convinced that it's not a worthwhile activity, it's a necessary skill for career development, but more importantly is the cheapest form of entertainment. You can get into a free library book, and let your mind explore humanity and the world.

Best wishes to you and your son!

JG (Introverted Reader) Congratulations, Joanie!
