Do you think this book will help the series get back on track?

So fingers crossed, maybe its as good as Obsidian Butterfly :)

All for the old Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Necromancer, and Executioner!

TONS of filler and very little plot.

PS It's been out around here in the grocery/drug stores and Wal-Marts for the last week now.

I agree with those who think Anita's harem should be thinned down, though... I'd need a chart and a database to keep up with her beaus-du-jour!

All of those are good points that to be honest I didn't caught. And it's not just you, at least I found that BDSM scene not to my liking.

They were chillaxing.

If anyone was to do that "safely", it'd be Anita's Bride, so the choice of person to do that makes sense. To be honest, I kind of saw that one coming up- as in the strangulation thing, not the Nicky-being-the-one-to-do-that bit. It seemed more likely than a scene where Anita allows someone to cut her with a knife (and heal her later or something) or ... I don't know, some other BDSM thing.

Whenever Edward appears there is more depth to the storyline, some action at least. I just wish her pissing contests with law enforcement, and her defending her lifestyle to others would end. We get it already, and it detracts from the plot.
Even though this story delved into Micah's (one of my least favorite characters) personal history, I enjoyed this book more than the last two.

Yes! To all this. What happened to the local involvement? Did she just forget that she'd raised that? I think the missing purse was sort of kind of solved in that she let the reader assume that one of the zombie vampires drove the couple's car.
But are we supposed to assume that Al was involved somehow? What happened to the whole plot thread about the local possibly wanting to be caught? And what happened with Travers? Was he the local? Why did he flip out like that because a vampire saved him? Did he kill himself? Did someone go and make sure that didn't happen? Why is this book 10,000 pages long and yet still has dropped plot lines?
WHERE ARE HER EDITORS? How did they not catch this?

Does she really have a no edit clause? Why in the world would any writer want that? As for Missy...sigh.

Does she really have a n..."
I'm with you. I guess they need to get smart and realize that is stupid and split it into two: Spell checking Clause and Creativity Clause.

Yes!!!! 1. Losing the ardeur 2. Losing at least half of her boytoys 3. Plot encompassing the entire length of the book (this shouldn't need to be on a list, but unfortunately has to) --- probably the only things that will convince me to keep reading this series.

Happens when authors get too big for their britches- like Anne Rice. How's that working for her?

Oh, I'd actually forgotten about the other pack and Master of the City! I had been expecting them to play in it big time.

Edward has been transformed into Anita's "girlfriend" (I mean how many sociopathic assassins call a girl and tell them to be nice to their boyfriends?) and Jean Claude is now just Anita's trophy wife that stands in the background.
These men used to exude strength and danger, now they're nothing but Anita fan girls that squee anytime she shows up in a room.
Sigh, I've lost my zeal for Anita, this book finally killed my hope for character and story line growth.
I also was upset with the plot lines dropping out into the ether. No issues with the local supernaturals. No explanation of the local cop(s) being involved. I guess these things had to be edited out so we could understand some hazel eyes are more brown or green than actually hazel, because that's important stuff right there! *sigh*

I was happy and surprised that LH managed to put off the sex until more than half way through. Huge improvement in my book. Now if she could fix the plot holes. Sometimes I wonder if she even rereads her own books.

I have yet to encounter any of her novels being as good as Obsidian Butterfly. Just re-read that novel and my belief has been fortified. I'll still read her stuff, because I do love certain characters, but Obsidian Butterfly is the novel to beat in this series.

I absolutely agree, none have come close to Obsidian Butterfly. It is my fav in the series. Hopefully, with Edward in the next book, we will see an improvement.

Hamilton has stated that she plans to continue the series for the next 20 years. So, the loose ends wont be tied up any time soon.

Dang, that's what I get for hoping/wishing about things

I totally agree too, I would really like to have the old Anita back, the kick ass, I don't give a damn about anybody anita

Please tell me this is a joke? There are a few things I want to see happen in the books, but 20 more years of Anita makes it a long, long wait before I see it happen.

There is not much else for her to do, unless shes gonna rule the world.

I agree. I loved the series initially but I am slowly losing my passion for it. I love whenever Edward is involved because there is more story and less sex. I also wish that a little bit of the old Anita would show up and less of this I am polyamorous and I have to defend that with everyone who says anything about anything I do. What happened to the "I don't care what others think" woman? I wish LKH would focus on the characters and less on the sex. That is not what drew everyone to this series. There are so many characters involved how about we focus on them and less on adding new ones. I miss Jean-Claude and Jason. They haven't really been around in forever. There are many others but a lot of the new ones kiss her behind too much and don't really add to the story line. The only person who should bend to her will that much is Nick. I think the reason that I don't really like Micah may have to deal with the fact that the ardeur arrived with him and that is when the series turned.

I've just started Obsidian Butterfly. I'm reading them totally out of order as my library can find them from other libraries for me.. some of their copies were stolen

.....Maybe it's just my love for the old Anita in the first few books that has kept me going with the rest of the series..''The strong, determined, willing to take risks, wry sense of humor, loyal to friends, passionate about her work and seemingly non-judgemental'' heroin and not the I-need-to-fuck-everyday-or-ill-get-weak-and-die- girl.
Maybe One day Laurell might slowly make that girl come back again..but with all these new people, new magic tricks and new emotional love problems involve,i don't see how it's possible...
I'm an Anita Blake fan,& I have nothing against the author.but damn,Doesn't she see that the book is now mostly sex,and Anita is now this "Sex goddess"? What the hell happened?.I'll pray, that everything WILL get better. If not then i'm going to have to forget this new Sex Addicted Anita,And pretend she never existed..
And Just stay home with the good 'ol Vampire Hunter,Necromancer, and Executioner Anita.
