For those who don't know (like me), the Newbery Medal is an award for children books, since 1922!

I'd the same thing but if I remember well it often happens with these types of sites. They lack a page to confirm the vote is saved.

Me too.

I actually noticed that when I took it myself. I always test them out by taking it before I post the link to the group. It came up and said there was one response and had my answers on the results page. So yes they're going through!
Which is sort of silly because when you create the survey it lets you customize the "finish" screen.
But.. we actually already have 53 responses! I'm thinking about shortening the window to take the survey because last time the responses stopped by the last few days. That would give us a little more time in December to finalize a list and start looking for books by the start of the year :)

Laura, I second this opinion. I think people would be ok losing a few days to vote to give us more time to finalize next years plan :)

I think that might be a good idea. I think the time slots worked well when we thought the suggestions were going to take longer but as the suggestions are being finished after a couple of days, the wait for the poll results is very long. If they're a little bit shorter then we could probably get the full/final list by December and then, like you said, that'll give us all a chance to get used to the list and start picking some books before the start of January so we can actually start with the challenge at the right time.

Does this mean a book your grandparents own(ed)? I am sort of unsure about what this means. Also... tough for us who no longer have living grandparents or ones who read.
Nicole, I understand it like you. It has the same problem as the "loved by your mother" topic this year, some people changed it for "parent/friend/child/lover" for this reason. I'll do it if the suggestion is in the 52.

Here, here!

I think that is a good idea. Those of us who want to vote will most likely do it in the first week since the poll has opened anyway. And for the members who want to read in the correct week order it would indeed give a bit of a time to get the first books.

I'm going to go ahead and end the voting on this Tuesday, July 14.
For those of you interested in the more detailed runnings of the 2016 list, the new schedule will have alternating weeks for the opening of suggestions. They will open either Sunday or Tuesday and the poll will likely be posted the next day (going by the completion of suggestions in previous polls). The poll will then stay open for one week.
Don't worry about trying to keep track of the dates, unless that interests you. I'll try to keep everyone informed of coming postings :)
This allows for a preliminary list to be done October 28, giving us the month of November to finalize and the month of December to get books.

I like the new survey format and it will be nice to have some time to sort out the order and track down books.
I know this is off topic, but I'm not sure if it's being discussed anywhere - do we have a plan or idea of how to actually order the topics once we have them all? I honestly don't really care about the order, I'm a jumper, I'm just curious.

Laura, you my dear are just totally awesome :)
But as far as the ordering of the list:
I was also a jumper this year. I'm going to try to read in order next year for discussion purposes but I may not be able to pull it off since library holds were a lot of the reason why I jumped.
But since I didn't read in order, others may be better suited for coming up with ideas on how to decide. If there aren't ideas then I would probably just open a thread in open a thread in October for any opinions on the placement of specific themes, since we'll have a preliminary list at that point.

Or the mods can decide 3-4 orders and we'll do a poll to vote for the preferred one. I don't think the order really matters if it's well balanced with very different topics in the same month.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I just wanted to say that I would be okay with one or a few people determining the order for next year. I just think for everyone involved having fewer hands in the kitchen, per say, would be a good way to avoid a headache.
All this being said, if others aren't okay with that little say in the rankings, it could be good to ask for suggestions in a thread, with no promises of rankings, of course.

I agree with this too. I trust our mods in that they would not make an extremely difficult order of books but a balanced enough one. However, as I'm a jumper (mostly due to all the other challenges and group reads I'm participating in), the actual order of the books is not that important to me anyway.

How it will work:
The topics for the 2016 RC list will be determined through 13 mini-polls. Each user will vote for their favorite 4 topics in each mini-poll, which will then add up to the 52 topics (13 polls x 4 topics/poll=52 weekly topics). This timeframe allows for a completed list at the beginning of December.
EDIT: Voting ends July 14 at 8:00am EST
Rules:
- Each person can take the survey one time.
- Due to restrictions in the previous site, the survey has been moved to a different platform. But the idea is the same: choose four themes in the first question and then rank them in the second. You can drag and drop the rank picks instead of choosing the drop down choices, if you prefer.
See the first post in the Announcements for the running list of chosen themes
The Suggestions thread contains more elaborate descriptions of some of the suggestions, including examples
