yellowbird | 55 comments ok, the English professor I was talking about encouraged us to write in all our books. We only had one textbook for that class, and I think we opened it maybe three times. Everything else was a regular work of fiction, like The Bell Jar and a collection of poetry that we were required to have.
I guess it just seemed like graffiti... although some graffiti can be really beautiful...

Sera My English professors always encouraged us to write in our books, too. Textbooks are fine, but I've never had the heart to mark-up my novels. I'm like, Lori. I keep my books in pristine condition. I do note the date of when I read it in the inside cover so I don't forget, but other than that, most of my books don't even look like they've been read. I hate when I loan my books to other people and when returned, the cover has a bent corner, etc. One of my friends bought me a new book, because she told that she had defaced the one that I had loaned her so badly. I was glad that she did so, because I'm sure that the look on my face when she returned the book would have said it all!
