Pat | 39 comments Hi everyone.

I'm a new mom to a 1 year old Welsh Corgi mix. It's a boy and came with the name "Bug". Please help me choose a new name for him. This breed has been in Wales since 1200 BC, so I know there are many heros and interesting people since that time that might fit. Any suggestions?

He has a sad history, was crated and left alone for 10 hours or more every day since he was a little puppy.

He has 4 new friends from the neighborhood already and is doing great. Loves to play and is so eager to please.

Hmmm.

Arthur? Lleywellyn no way. Gwennedd?

Joan Szechtman | 401 comments While looking for secular music around in the fifteenth century, England, I came across "Lament for Scion", a 15th-c Welsh poem by Lewys Glyn Cothi. While I'm a poetic idiot, I found this poem quite moving. Anyway, since your pup is part Welsh, maybe name him Lewys Glyn--it's Welsh and unlike a lot of Welsh names, pronounceable by the rest of the world.

Barb | 145 comments I think you should share a photo so we can see who we're talking about.

Pat | 39 comments Well, as some of you know, I am "computer challenged"...that is why I am faceless here at Goodreads.
Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/welsh_corgi

His body is very similar, short legs, long body, but he doesn't have the thick dense fur...more sleeklike. His face is more delicate, kind of like a little fox. I will try to have someone help me post a photo of him.

I have always had a problem with the pronunciation of Lleywellyn...is it Loo-el-in? I like your ideas.

Pembroke? Snowden? Other places?

I am not creative in naming pets. I only managed a bit of brilliance with Misfit - but then she's such an odd bird she kind of named herself :)

Brian (brianwainwright) | 149 comments The last greyhound I actually owned (as opposed to fostered) was called Lionel. For some reason my friends thought I had named him after Lionel Duke of Clarence! (They know me, you see.) However the name came with the dog.

If you want a Welsh name, I expect there's a Welsh naming dictionary somewhere. Personally, I quite like the idea of getting a bitch so that I could call her Tangwystl...

Actually I do keep a list of names for possible use in stories that I may write one day.

Joan Szechtman | 401 comments Brian just reminded me about Behind the Name, the etymology and history of first names. I find this site quite useful for naming fictional characters as well as figuring out if the name fits the geography and time.

Pat | 39 comments Oh Joan, what a great site. There is an endless selection of names and their meanings. Most Welsh names don't just roll right off your tongue, do they?
