I see most comments are definitely voting for Maxon, but remember girls....Maxon has major flaws too - I think KC wrote Aspen in to make Maxon look like the only choice for Mer...which it seems like is the only choice. Aspen is a dweeb - but w shouldn't lose sight of the fact that Maxon is hardly perfect either. Speaking from the UK point of view...it's like he has the stiffness of Prince William but little of the fun that Harry shows (maybe not being the future king has its benefits).

Yeah! I know he got a lot of flaws! but remember, If you love the person, his/her flaws, mistakes and all will be disregarded.. it's like if you'll be ask, why him/her? and the answer is just.."I LOVE HIM" that's all.. His not perfect IKR! but the way he was written was so smart that turns me red all the time! So, I'm a certified, #TeamMaxon
While ASpen? he's a urrrgghhh.. Mr.Whatever! Mr.Pride? and YES! Maxon is the only choice! He's Perfect for me! :D

Emma Most of you obviously have no idea what it is to be hungry. I grew up somewhat poor. My mom often had to decide between paying the electric bill or buying food. Do you have any idea how hard it is to watch your children go hungry when you can't do anything about it? Do you have any idea what it is like to work two full-time jobs just to make ends meet? Aspen had to watch his younger siblings crying for food. He worked around the clock to help feed his mother and siblings. And it still wasn't enough. They still didn't have enough to eat. Do you have any idea how painful it is to watch people you love suffer? How can you possibly blame someone for not wanting their spouse and children to suffer in that way? How can you blame them for not wanting the person they love the most in the world to live in poverty? You have no idea what you are talking about if you say what Aspen did was selfish. It is the opposite of selfish.

It wasn't sexist, either. They live in a patriarchal society. If she married him, she would be in his caste. If they had children, which they both wanted, she would most likely be the primary caregiver. They didn't have birth control, so they would most likely be having kids every year or two. It's hard to work a physical job when you are pregnant most of the time. He wasn't being sexist, he was being realistic. And it's entirely ridiculous to say he's sexist for saying he wants to be a good provider and for saying he would fight for her, when the whole premise of the book is sexist. Maxon was part of a competition that gave women as a prize. They were being paraded around, judged solely on their looks and ability to be an effective doormat. It's a friggin' lifestock competition! I've seen cows treated better at a county fair than those women were! They were told their whole existence depended on marrying Maxon and then they were just discarded when he was tired of them. If anyone was sexist, it's Maxon for participating in the Selection.

As far as Aspen coming to the castle, I'm pretty sure he just went where he was assigned. If you say he should have left her alone, you obviously don't know what it is like to be near the person you love and not be able to do anything about it. People have been risking their lives to be with the one they love all throughout history. And it take two to tango (excuse the cliche). America had a choice. She could have said no. She is just as guilty as he is. You can't say that he's sexist for wanting to provide for his family and then say he was forcing her to commit treason. She's either an independent woman who makes her own decisions or she's not. You can't have it both ways. Also, realize at this point his life had changed. He was no longer a six (or whatever number it was). It's not that he changed his mind, but circumstances had changed to make marriage feasible for them, without their children starving.

Lynne Stringer Of course Maxon has flaws. He wouldn't be a realistic character if he didn't.

Sophie We loved the selection, but my friends and I all agree that Aspen is an idiot. #TeamMaxon
