SOLVED. man stranded on private island - killing game? Being hunted. Possible short story. [s]

Okay that topic probably made zero sense but...

I read this in grade 5 or 6. It was photocopied into a short story booklet for us but I'm not sure if it was actually a short story or if it was an actual novel.

I don't remember exactly how he got there, but I think the main character (male) got shipwrecked on some private island. There was a rather large mansion so he went there to seek refuge. The owner ended up letting him stay, but then he had to participate in this "game" where the owner basically hunts him. I'm pretty sure the shipwreck guy won, though.
