Time to get cracking on suggestions for reading in April.

Katje missed out getting Alberic the Wise on last month's ballot, so let's carry that across.

What else have people got up their sleeves that we might enjoy?

Asta (astaa) | 11 comments I'd love to see a William Gibson novel in the mix. How about Pattern Recognition, the first of the Blue Ant novels?

message 3: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 8 comments well, I'm not a big fan of William Gibson's prose but I do like his stories. I'd put my vote in for Pattern Recognition. If that isn't chosen, I'd put a second vote in for Alberic The Wise.

Susan (Kastlin) | 3 comments Okay, since I just joined, I'm not sure how this works. I actually have Pattern Recognition sitting by the bed waiting for its turn. I also "read" a lot of audio books while I'm spinning and knitting. I hope that's allowed!

Passage is another one on my hot-list.

Oooo, all of these look good. I've missed the past two but I hope to keep up with this month's book.

OK gang... voting's open for April's book.

For the newcomers (welcome aboard!) it works like this: go to the poll linked below & vote for your first & second choice. We have a first & second choice so that, even if your fave isn't chosen, there's a better chance that we'll pick something that the majority are happy to read. I'll count the votes up before the end of this month and announce a winner. We get April to read the chosen book and then at the end of the month we talk about what we liked, didn't like, how it changed our life etc.

To the Chicago person who accidentally submitted an empty vote, I've deleted your record so you should be able to vote again.

Deb | 14 comments Was that me? I don't know how that happened. Thanks

Susan (Kastlin) | 3 comments Dang! Well, I voted, but for me it should have just been "what book are you least interested in?" because four of the five are on my "ooooh, interesting" list. LOL!!

Guess that means I'll be a happy reader in April!

Jennifer | 8 comments I've almost bought/libraried the book I voted for three times today! Slow down, Minkey, wait for the results...wait...can't wait!!

Oooh good... glad you're all excited. Let's call the results - and hope you're all excited about the right book! There seems to be a definite consensus this month - everybody gave at least one vote to the same book.

Pattern Recognition - 8 points
Alberic the Wise - 3 points
Passage - 3 points
World War Z - 1 point
A Discovery of Witches - 0 points

With 3 1st place votes and 2 2nd place votes, we have a winner: Pattern Recognition by William Gibson is April's reading.

Jennifer | 8 comments I'm ready!!

Jennifer | 8 comments I have to say that the prose is better than in All Tomorrow's Parties and way better than in Neuromancer. I can't put the book down!! I hope you all are enjoying it, too :)

Minkey, super scraper

I did read this one (though I forgot to come back for a while.) May's a busy time of year, isn't it?

Cayce Pollard is probably my favorite thing about Pattern Recognition. There's something about her refusal to wear anything branded or commercial that really appeals to me. I know that, for her, it's a compulsion -- but I like the idea as a conscious choice. You start noticing how everything around us is covered with branding, logos, and demands for our time, money and attention. I think of it as taking back my mental space when I remove (or refuse) something branded from my life.

Katje (mamagotcha) | 15 comments D'oh, already read that one! And sorry I've been awol... been a nutso month, traveling to CA for family things. But I'm home now and looking forward to reading new goodies!

There's another Chicago glitchen I don't know yet? Maybe we'll have to connect!
