Do you follow for follow ?

If I like someone's blog and follow it I may leave a comment and a link to my own blog because if I like theirs then they might also be interested in mine, and I will check out the blogs of people who follow me to see if I like theirs. If I do I follow, if I don't I won't. Sometimes though there are blogs with some posts I like and others I don't. Depending on how interested I am in the ones I like I may or may not choose to follow these blogs.
I also am one who doesn't care how many followers I have, I just blog about what interests me. Of course I hope people will like my posts and follow my blog but that's not the point. I blog for entertainment, and if I'm enjoying it that's all that matters to me.
This whole idea of I'll follow you if you follow me though just irks me. How many people here actually go back and check up on every blog post made by everyone they follow? What's more, how many people here actually talk about or link to other blogger's posts in their blog? It really seems more like a pointless exercise than anything else. It seems to me that it might even be hurting as much as it helps, falsely inflating the numbers on your blog statistics, after all, it might make you feel good to have dozens or even a hundred followers, but if none of them actually look at the majority of your posts, then what is the point?
