I'm really looking forward to expanding my fantasy reading as I've tended to stick with particular authors - Brooks, Eddings, Feist and of course, Janny!
I've just started re-reading Name of the Wind.

thanks ;)
The newest member: our boy Leo Harvey surprised us on Sunday and arrived early. He isn't quite reading yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time! :)

Congratulations Shel! Probably wishful thinking at this point, but I hope you are getting some sleep & maybe even fitting a little reading in =)

So what can I offer about me that might be interesing? I'm an IT Manager by day at a Magna JIT plant (my plant makes the seats for the Chevy Cruze), a husband with a knock out wife and two great kids (daughter 4, son 2), a competitive powerlifter, and an author (published through a couple of sources, although I'm investigating self-publishing at the moment). Oh yeah, I should finish up my MBA this year too.
I joined the group because sci-fi and fantasy were my first loves. Between R.E. Howard (Conan, never cared much for Kull) and Buck Rogers, my fate was sealed. Most of what I write includes elements of sci-fi and fantasy, and sometimes I mix it together. I occasionally stray outside of those realms but I keep coming back to them.
Looking forward to poking around and seeing what I uncover.

I'm Red Haircrow, a long time lover of sci-fi & fantasy books. Native American and Germany resident. The first book I clearly remember reading was Edgar Rice Burroughs, The People That Time Forgot, when I was eight years old. Soon after I went onto The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Some of my favorite authors are C.J. Cherryh, M.A. Foster, Karin Lowachee and Michael Moorcock. I don't usually read the very technical type science fiction, nor the fantasy that ranges into comedy or parody. I like serious science fiction and epic or heroic fantasy, as well as those with a psychological or speculative edge. M.A. Foster would fall in that category.
Besides being a writer (I occasionally write historical fantasy and plan more), I operate a review/interview site Flying With Red Haircrow, which accepts all genres. http://flyingwithredhaircrow.wordpres...
I enjoy discussing books, but I confess many on the list I've seen here thus far, aren't the kind I'm usually attracted to. I've been reading for so long, I got rather jaded and bored with the similar storylines for a while, so looking for something new but strong.

I tend to stick to the same authors (Terry Brooks, Raymond E Feist etc.) so I'm looking forward to discovering new authors here and discussing them.

Hello all! I'm Lindsey and I've been reading sci-fi and fantasy since I was very young. I'm pretty sure I graduated straight from Dr. Seuss to Ray Bradbury & Isaac Asimov, courtesy of my dad. I read both genres, although more fantasy lately. I like finding new authors and series, but the older/better read I get, the less tolerant I am of poor writing, so I tend to move on to other options a little faster. I also read an increasing amount of history, biography, personal finance, and science titles.
Favorite authors include the aforementioned Bradbury & Asimov, Anne Bishop, Brandon Sanderson, Robin Hobb, David Weber, Kate Elliott, Orson Scott Card, and C. S. Friedman.

My dad got me into science fiction, too. I always get warm and fuzzy when I hear of that sort of dad/daughter sf/f relationship. :)
Edit: "me", not "my" *sigh*

My scifi started with dad, although I watch more than I read of that genre. I went from Enid Blyton's Enchanted Wood to Narnia and on to Shannara.

I have eclectic tastes in reading but have a strong skew towards science fiction and fantasy.
Fave authors include: JG Ballard, Frank Herbert, Neal Stephenson, William Gibson, Brent Weeks, Robin Hobb, Orson Scott Card, Jack Campbell... really too many to list.

My name is Jeri and I live in North Carolina. Although, I do have summer homes in Solace, Braavos, the Black Forest and Oxford, among others. :) I like to read and dive into different worlds and stories. A good yarn, is a good yarn. That being said, I read a variety of genres. Such as the classics, fantasy, historical, horror, mystery/suspense, and a little sci-fi. I am not a fan of romance by itself. If it is historical romance, I may give it a try. I also enjoy some young adult novels as well.
My favorite book is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Other favorites are the Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin, Dragonlance by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, Deerskin by Robin McKinley, Cabal by Clive Barker, and Watchers by Dean Koontz. Besides these authors, other authors I really enjoy are Juliet Marillier, Rick Riordan, Phillipa Gregory, Laurell K Hamilton {Merry Gentry series}, Alice Borchardt, Charlaine Harris, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Morgan Llywelyn, and Carrie Ryan. My favorite poet is Percy Shelley-he has my heart.
I am fairly new to the workings of goodreads. So, please add me as a friend, if you would like. And recommend me a good book! :)

Some of my favorite authors are, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Guy Gavriel Kay, Robin Hobb, Douglas Adams, Isaac Asimov, Leigh Brackett, Poul Anderson, Henry Kuttner, H.P. Lovecraft, and probably many more I forgot. Looking forward to reading with you and especially being introduced to the science fiction authors I've been missing out on.

My name is Alivia, and I'm a freshling 20 who can't seem to stop reading even if it killed me. Uhm, some favorite things I enjoy are fresh salsa, scratch that, all Mexican food types, those funny Naked drinks (I reccomend Green Machine, tastes great, looks horrid) mindless hours wasted on the Sims, and Pandas. On a less-random note, I am an avid reader/lover of Fantasy, be it Urban or traditional, and SF is okay, but it's not my first pick.
Anywho, I hope I can come to get to know some if not all of you!
Welcome, Alivia. I like Green Machine too. (Plus, it's more or less the only way I can get my 4 year old to consume broccoli!)

I have a hard time reading only one book at once...I think I'm reading four books right now. But I almost always finish whatever I start reading. Right now I'm trying to read more Holly Lisle and next month I'll be reading a bunch of Charles de Lint. As well as whatever is one my book club's lists including this one. Yay.
So now you know something about me. Hooray!
