Please share your favorite book and what it means to you. Think it would be a great read for this group? Add it to the bookshelf as a To-Do!

My all time favorite book is A Moveable Feast by Hemingway. I love how it takes me right back to Paris..the sounds, the smells...it is just lovely.

While I have enjoyed many books, several books from my adolescence: Where the Red Fern Grows, The Giver, etc. always stand out for me!

Ruth | 2 comments My favorite is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It is so simple and yet there are so many deeper issues to look at when you discuss it.

My favorite book is: One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The book is hauntingly beautiful. I love when authors stretch the truth. You know what they are telling you is a lie but you choose to believe them anyways.

The list of favorites is way too long, but I'll keep it short (for now): Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Randy Shilts's And the Band Played On, and Patti Smith's Just Kids.

All these books have the kind of emotional depth that have moved me to laughter and tears. They are favorites simply because they made me think and I think that reading these stories have made me a better reader and possibly a more empathetic person.

These are great!! Why don't you ladies add them to the bookshelf on the top right so we can add them to the list.

Dani | 2 comments Gone With The Wind - it's super long but I love it because I feel like I can relate to Scarlett at times (who is not necessarily portrayed as the kindest character). But she seems to always want what she can't have, and once she gets it, it's not as interesting to her anymore. But in the end she has a truly inspiring inner strength. I <3 Scarlett O'Hara.

I can't pick just one book - not even sure I could pick one author :) But one trilogy I've begun recommending to any of my reader friends - or those who just need some inspiration - is "Drawing Out The Dragons: A Meditation on Art, Destiny, and the Power Of Choice" by James A. Owen. I have several copies because it's simply that good (I actually wish I could give a copy to every senior Phi that I advise when they graduate). I also highly recommend his other books, especially his Imaginarium Geographica books, because I always need to keep a pen/paper handy or Goodreads up to note new books to read!
