Matt Kent Man, the first 10% or so of Tigana... ugh. I was starting to think GGK was just intentionally writing the densest sentences possible in order to piss off readers. I was terrified that at any moment my Jr. high English teacher was going to come out of the woodwork with a triumphant look on her face and force me to diagram one of those six paragraph long sentences on the board while everyone watched and secretly knew the answer.

I don't know if he just started writing a little more straightforward or if I just got used to it, but it's thankfully better now, and I'm starting to get into it. Whew.

Agreed. I don't care for Kay's writing either. It's made it difficult to get into the book. I have hopes it'll get better but... meh.

Kayla | 2 comments I was going to say the same thing, I feel like I'm 12 again trying to muscle my way through Tolkein's writing style. But after the first few chapters I think I'm adapting to the flow of Kay's writting. I guess.

Fun little fact: Kay helped Christopher Tolkein edit The Silmarillion.

Miladycarol | 1 comments I'm so sorry you feel that way. I'm enraptured. I've been sneaking reading into my work day while waiting for water to boil for tea. It takes a few minutes to come to temperature and 3 minutes to steep... I see no reason to waste this time. *grin* After he paints the scenery, the action on center stage livens up. I promise.

Michelle Benoit (Lehmann) (FireAngelmrl) | 2 comments I agree. It to me feels very fantasy typical. It's meh so far but I still have a bit of hope it will be real good.

Cassandra | 2 comments Now that I've finally started/made a little progress, I must say that I disagree. I'm enjoying his style and it's been a relaxing break in between studying.... Maybe I should give Tolkien another shot some day..

I'm like 40% through and still really struggling through it. I hated Tolkein though.
Maybe, deep down, I really just hate Fantasy. Opps.

Kayla | 2 comments I dislike "traditional style" fantasy writing, I end up feeling like I am reading the same droll story(even though I know I'm not).

Marsha Wilcox | 12 comments You like Game of Thrones -- that's fantasy.

Okay, so that's true. But I don't LIKE Game of Thrones... I LOVE Game of the Thrones. Hahahaha I think I'm more fascinated by Martin's style of writing though. I'm slowly getting through this book so here's to hoping I finish it while Matt's away! Cheer me on!
