Dan | 2 comments Looking for a book I read in the late 90's when I was 12 or so years old. It was about a group of kids (or teenagers?) who live in relative isolation but are well taken care of, possibly by the government. They had strict daily routines, slept on aerogel beds and ate soy steak. I remember a scene where they ate real steak and it was a huge deal. Also, the main character could innately tell time down to the hundredth of a second. For most of the book, the kids are commanding troops through some sort of virtual interface. I don't remember if they were commanding real troops or just running simulations.

Sorry for the scatterbrained explanation but I only remember snippets of the book, not the whole story.

Dan | 2 comments Thanks for the response, it wasn't Ender's Game but that suggestion was just what I needed to jog my memory and I finally figured it out. The book was The Virtual War Chronologs by Gloria Skurzynski, an Ender's Game knock-off from about 10 years after Ender's Game was written. Thanks again!
