I think they also have a way for you to get your book read and reviewed. I usually just read the book and answer about 10 questions. Review swaps--why? It doesn't help sell books. If you want a 5-star review, write your own. Same with trading 'likes' on FB. Does anyone out there really believe it pushes books off the shelf? Work on your characters, writing, plotting, etc. That would help much more.

Actually, the more people who review your work the more Amazon's site moves your book up in searches. This makes it visible to more people. The more people who know about it the more potential buyers you have. For a starting author this will hopefully sell more books.

IT DOESN'T WORK. I have three books on Amazon right now. The first, Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves, sold more than 10,000 copies. They sell via word of mouth and any legitimate marketing you can bring to bear. It's the toughest business in the world, and unless you offer a quality product, all the bogus reviews in the world won't help. Sorry to be so negative, but that's the way it is.

What type of marketing practices do you use? I don't have contacts in publishing. So far, I've been using the social media. I believe in my book but it is hard for potential readers to find it on Amazon. On Barnes & Noble, it sits in the #2 spot for paranormal mysteries. But it needs to reach a wider audience. Do you have any suggestions?

My publisher is launching a short radio ad in a couple of weeks. I also do paid ads on FB. Social media is pretty much a marketing myth. Everybody does it, but the only people who read it are other authors.

Pushing your book out in front of people is what you are doing with a radio add. The FB add is the same. The more people who hear about your book the more people have the opportunity to purchase. The author review group I am in is about giving an HONEST review. Not putting 5 stars up because you are chat room besties. Self published people do not have a publisher who will do the marketing for them. There is plenty of quality work that doesn't get published by the big houses. I am not limiting my marketing to these things. I have book signings scheduled and ads as well. But I am not leaving anything off the table when it could potentially reach more readers. (With the exception of the icky or the illegal.)

I'm sure that most Goodreads authors and readers usually prefer to choose the specific storylines and genres of the books that we agree to read and review. I genuinely like the synopsis of your novel, so if you are a reasonably fast reader and not too swamped at the moment with other books I will agree to do an amazon verified purchase of your ebook. I will read every page of your sci-fi novel within a week or so. I will provide you with a fair review. My sci-fi adventure novel is 306 pages in length. If you are interested in swapping I have just reduced the price of my kindle ebook to 0.99 cents for a few days to make it more affordable.

K.D. this is the 13th version of my original book. It was cut down from 1300 edited pages to 306 pages. It was professionally and thoroughly edited numerous times. Even so, re-engineering paragraphs, cutting and pasting etc can cause a few small problems that spell checking can't find. Some of my early readers still found a few small errors such as "his became is", so hopefully it's fully corrected now, but if you discover any glaring problems with Alien Birthright please don't hesitate to let me know privately and my editor will immediately correct them.
