I usually have at least 4/5 books on the go at the same time. These consist of at least 2 fiction books (I read most of my fiction on my kindle) and 3or4 non-fiction books (mainly military history) which I either buy(mainly hardbacks) or borrow from my local library.

I am currently reading eight books at the time, but for three of them I have not read a single page for many months, so they should not probably count.Sometimes when I read some difficult books - they may have hundreds of pages or be harder to understand (like A Dance with Dragons and East of Eden for me now) - I tend to start to read some lighter books not be exhausted from the concentration.
But I feel bad when I abandon book for a long time, so I try to get back to them as soon as possible which is kind of hard when there is no free time to read.
Preferably 1 but I go up to 5. It depends on any new books I'm reading. If they can hold my attention I read them start to finish, but if for whatever reason the book(s) can't hold my attention I put them aside for a bit to start or continue something else. Made a personal decision to never exceed 5 though. Don't want to start mixing up storylines.
I typically read one book at a time, but if it's something huge , like Moby-Dick or something, I'll take a break now and then to read some stories from an anthology, like Ray Bradbury or Oscar Wilde. When I was younger, though, I read many books at a time. It used to drive my mom crazy haha.
I usually read 3 to 5, but sometimes as many as 7. Normally different formats: 2 or 3 in print, an audio cd in my car and audio book downloads on my computer. Usually all different genres, but sometimes the same. Right now I am reading a war story, a thriller, a historical fiction, and a mystery. Plus I occasionally have to read texts and nonfiction for work.
