Hi, I believe I've found my second family! In the past 6 months I've become addicted to buying (and reading) books. I feel like I'm on a quest or a hunt every week when I go to the used bookstore. I have a two page list of books I'm looking for and feel like I'm on the Amazing Race as I search for them. I also run to Borders everytime I get a good coupon. On top of that I spent way too much time scouring ebay for wanted books and deals. I've been trying to figure out how to earn an extra $150 a month to pay for my book habit. Funny though, it's just paranormal romance/urban fantasy that I'm addicted to. If it's about normal people I can't get interested.

I am so right there with you Looloo!!!! I have a small notebook filled with books/series I want to read, I have to make alist otherwise I can't keep them all straight or remember them LOL!! I might have to consider the ebay thing! Never thought of that....there is a place local to me that carries some used books of our liking, they offer free shipping for orders of $25/more; www.mckenziebooks.com; you should check it out, my friend Maree(who lives in SC) has used them a couple times, very handy!:)
One of my mail groups alerted us to the fact the B&N were offering the first two books of Sunny's Monere series for only $1.99 each ($1.79 if you have a membership number). So, having never read her, I figured that was as good an excuse as any. Of course, I then wanted free shipping. So, my intent to buy two books for less than $4.00 ended up with six books and over $30. LOL

DarkHeart, thank you so much! I just placed an order at B&N too. I've been wanting to try Sunny's books and I found several more too.Susan, thanks for the link. I will check it out! Sounds like you and I are a lot alike.
I think I'm going to have to check out the B&N special now LOL, LOL. Welcome Looloo, the mckenziebooks.com was a great find! Just so happens it's within a block of where I work, so I can order online and walk my hiney down there and pick them up! They don't have a huge selection, but they have a fair amount and you can get some for super cheap!:)

Hi. My name is Robin and I am a book buying addict. I don't go a week without buying a new book. I have stacks of books around my house that I still need to read, because I haven't gotten to them since I bought yet more new books. My roommate is not a reader, and she gets very frustrated with my books everywhere LOL.
Robin and Susan, welcome to the club. Stick around here and you'll find out that BBAA works in reverse to other addiction organizations. We don't cure your condition, we make it "worse"! lol. A good example is myself. I just removed two chairs from my living room in order to make more room for bookcases! Who needs chairs when you can just sit on the floor, right? :-)

Joseph, you have a good point. Since joining goodreads, my to-read list has doubled... As for making my addiction "worse", I'll take the side effects of it any day! I'll never find anything wrong with buying/reading more books.

Thanks Joseph, yeah as soon as I started reading through this group and some of the other discussion boards I discovered very quickly that it was going to "help" my addiction, but not in the way you'd think LOL, LOL But at least we are all in good company!:)

It helps to know that you aren't the only person in the world addicted to reading and book buying! My family all think that I'm crazy, so at least I'm crazy in good company!

Absolutely Kelley Anne and I'm very glad to know i'm not the only one out there addicted to Vamps & Were's & Fae, etc!!:)

I have to confess, I have over 200 books waiting to be read stashed away in a corner of my guest bedroom. My husband knows I've been buying a lot of books but he has no clue since he never goes in that room. That worst part is I have a long list of even more books I want to buy plus many more about to be released.

I have over 600 in an Excel list of TBR titles, at least a couple hundred I bought but haven't read, AND I STILL BUY MORE!
Hi All, I'm afraid that I have this same problem....Can't get enough of the paranormal and such.
Discovered another great series, Lords of the Underworld- Gena Showalter.
These are yummy like the BDB, by JR Ward.
Love them...but the authors need to write faster, I'm waiting for 10 different books to come out from other series I love too
Hello everyone, my name is Joseph and I am a book buying addict. I just came home from the library with 34 hardcover used volumes from the World War 2 Time Life series http://www.volumelists.com/detail.php... . It had been sitting on the used book shelf for several days, and I was able to fight it off until I just had to give in to the temptation. I mean, come on, how often do you find an almost complete set of Time Life books at a used book sale? Do you know how hard that is? Nobody could pass that up, right? I did the right thing, didn't I? I was going to get some more bookcases anyway, I needed something to put on those shelves. Yeah, I did what anyone would do, not just a book buying addict. Maybe I'm not an addict after all. ;-) Yeah, I don't have a problem, much. lol

I was reading through the thread and saw that someone did a 6-er at Walmart. I did a 5-er (bought 5 books) when I had no intention of buying books. I just wanted to check their selection since I was new to this Walmart. BAD IDEA. I really had to stop pulling books off the shelf at 5 and walk away. They had so many of the WL'ed books I wanted lol. I know now to stay away until I am ready to buy again. But it probably won't last.

Barnes & Noble should help a girl out and NOT have well-advertised clearance sales. I just dropped an easy $30 on 1.99 books. With a 15% off one book coupon.

Dang I need in on that sale Sarah!!!! I might have to check out B&N more often!!! I tend to stick with my fav bookstore as I can usually find great used copies, but I might have to check out B&N's sale books!:)

If you can't find what you need on ebay or new at B&N I always check out my local thift stores. I even have a GOODWILL bookstore (books only) and usually pick up hardcovers for 1.99 and paperbacks for .99 cents. One day I got lucky and snagged 8 new audio books on CD for .99 each!
Some people don't keep books and someones old book is definately my new treasure!
Read on!
Good news on the Book Buying Addicts front. I have been in a book store 5 times in the last week and only bought 1 book!!!........Of course I was at the book store looking to see if 2 particular books have been put on the shelf yet, neither of which are actually scheduled to come out for another 2 weeks. So, that's probably not a good sign! So I guess this is more of a good news/bad news update!

Your not alone Looloo, I have about 300 books here at home to read too and the hard part is trying to decide which ones to read first as I want to read them all at once, lol.

My name is Kyle and I am a book buying addict. :PBut seriously...in the past 4 days I have bought 7 books...
I can't go into Books A million, B&N, or Borders without buying a book...okay at least three books...lol
Welcome Kyle! You are in good company! So what 7 books did you buy? You might give some of us some ideas of what to buy next!

I can't say how many I have bought this year but this month I have bought 9 paper books and 1 e=book. 2 were a reward for reading 1,000 pages in a challenge ;).

I'm glad I'm in such good company. I buy so many books :( both in kindle format and paperback. I have stacks of books everywhere, I can't help it!!I think last week alone I bought.. let me see. at least 5 paperbacks and I think 3 kindle versions. I buy books before I buy clothes, or food.
LOL Jess. I need to start prioritizing. I will need new dress-up clothes as friends are inviting me out. Yes. I have to leave the house and look presentable. Hehe. I was having a discussion with a fellow Book Addict and she was saying how she can buy a shirt and pant for $2 & $3 at Goodwill but spend $7 (and up) on a new book.
Hi, I'm Jessi and I have a book buying problem. I can't not got into any store without buying at least one book, even if I just bought one an hour ago. My husband hates to go shopping with me and makes me leave if I go anywhere near the book isle. I have about a 100 or more books sitting in my closet to be read. My husband says that if I buy any more, he is going to through them all in the trash, so I told him that the books are more important and he can leave (not really) lol.

Okay, went to borders last night and couldn't help myself. Bought the hardback of a new book $25, yikes. Just cause I'm too impatient to wait for the paperback. LOLHas anyone here tried www.papaerbackswap.com
I've been a member for a while and have saved hundreds of dollars by posting books I've read and getting new ones I want. Really check it out. It is the perfect site for book-o-holics like us.
The best deal is the Audio books. You can buy 2 credits for about $7.00 and get an audio book. Much cheaoer then paying full price at the store, Or you get 1 credit for each paperback you post and someone requests. Check it out.
I just started paperbackswap.com! Waiting for the first two books to arrive. Minion by L.A. Banks and Full Moon Rising by Keri Arthur.Oh, and I went to Wal-Mart to get shampoo and ended up leaving with Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton and Blue Moon by Alyson Noel.

I've been on PBS for awhile. I send out far more books than I get, tho. Seems I want books that are too popular and I never make it to the top of the list before I just buy it in a lot of cases.

Robin, I read BLUE MOON about a week or so ago. Be interested to know what you think of it. I was quite disappointed....mostly with Ever.
I feel so much better after seeing this. I have over 100 unread books in my house. Actually probably closer to 200 since I hit a Scholastic Book Sale and the friends of the library book sales recently. That's not counting the library books and the books I have to read to review. Yikes!

I've found that if I put a new book I want on the wish list and and turn on the auto request"yes" that I usually get my wishes granted quite fast.
The trick to gettting credits is parting with the books you've just read and that are popular.

Oh, I have loads of credits because I send out a lot. I just can't ever find much I really want on there that doesn't have a waiting list a mile long!

I have several friends on another board that have them and love them. I love the feel of an actual book in my hands too much to really seriously consider buying one. Plus, I think they're too expensive.
I really enjoy my Kindle although I haven't had a chance to use it as much since my review pile has gotten too big. I love the wireless feature and it comes in really handy during my commute to and from work.

Kyle wrote: "Are Kindle's worth it? (I know random question)"
I love my kindle!! I have bought a lot of books off of it (but maybe that's not such a good thing..) Not having a book in my hand doesn't really bother me, after awhile you don't even notice. It is a little expensive, but all the books on it are 10.00 and under, so you do see that savings eventually.
Besides I buy books I'd be too embarrassed to buy in public ;)
I'm also on paperbackswap, I put books out slowly because I noticed I was sending out more than I was getting back. But I think it's a great idea. If you buy the postage through the comp you don't even have to go to the post office to send out the book. It's just sometimes I can't really find the books I want on there. Either they are too popular, or no one has them.
But since it's a free service, I still scrounge through the lists and keep up with it. It's better than spending more money to fuel my habit lol.
I must confess, went and bought 5 more books last night! Didn't NEED them as I have a stack at home that I haven't even tackled yet, but I couldn't help myself.....

Don't feel bad, Susan. I'm in the States for a conference this week, and I've been going crazy at Barnes & Noble and Borders, picking up 16 books in two days. The shame of it all... ;)

I have enough books I worked out to last me about the next 3 years, lol, but it does not stop me buying more, I have a very serious addiction at the moment.

Karen wrote: "I have enough books I worked out to last me about the next 3 years, lol, but it does not stop me buying more, I have a very serious addiction at the moment."It doesn't matter how many books I have around my house that haven't been read yet. It's definitely an addicition to keep buying more. I keep rationalizing and saying it's better than me spending money on clothes or shoes. At least I'm expanding my vocab 0:)
