Yeah, I have the same issue with authors switching to hardcover. I'm in that bind right now, because I hear BDB is switching to hardcover and I have all the past books in paperback. And I have all of the Sookie books in paperback, but doubt I will be able to wait for book 9 to come out in paperback and will likely have to buy the hardcover. I may have to see about reading them in hardcover and then later purchasing them in paperback to line up with the other paperbacks.

I understand, Lori. BDB isn't an issue for me as I own both the paperback and (book club) hardback versions of all of the books (and German version I can't even read LOL - it's my favorite series and I'm a bit obsessed), but this came up with the latest House of Night book and will happen with the latest Vampire Academy book. If it's a series I love, I buy them anyway, accepting that I'll later buy it in paperback to keep my set in line. I'm just glad that the UK version of the latest Mercy Thompson book was still paperback, or I'd have gone to hardback for that one as well.

The vampire academy book is going to be in hard back too? Dang! That drives me crazy, but never actually stops me from buying the book anyways. I didn't end up buying the lastest house of night because it was hard back. I enjoy that series, but I also have them all on audiobook. And it's not one of those series that I HAVE to have. So, I just got the audiobook of the newest, and when it finally comes out in PB I'll buy it to go with my collection.

The House of Night series is both an addiction for me and drives me crazy, so I don't know why I feel compelled to keep reading, but I had to have the latest one when it came out, hardback be damned! And although I enjoyed it, I wanted to strangle Zoey just as much as ever. LOL Oh and not only is the next Vampire Academy coming out in hardback, but they're redesigning the covers. They're not hugely different, but as I love this series - do I need to rebuy them? LOL, it's a sickness...

lol, I agree about HON being an addiction. I have a real love/hate relationship with that series! I actually haven't listened to number 5 yet. I was planning on setting aside a week at work to just relisten to the entire series and then to the new one, but I got sidetracked with other books (like the uglies series). Now I think that I'll just relisten to number 4 and then move on to 5. But that'll have to wait. I'm currently listening to the cassie palmer ones so that I am ready for the new one to come out on Tues.As for Vampire Academy, I LOVE that series. Did you hear that it's now going to be a 6 book series? Originally it was only going to be 5 but it's been expanded. I can't wait for the new one to come out. I'll be there on the release date, picking it up even if it is hardcover! What can I say, I'm addicted!!!
Yeah I'm friends with RM on Facebook she just signed a 7 book deal for a YA series she said one more Rose book is coming and she doesn't know about the other six
Ooh, that's awesome news on there being six books in the VA series and a new series. And KA, I'm sure you'll love the Midnight Breed series. Great books that are easily devoured in one sitting. I can wait for book six next month.
I always tell myself that I just can't go to the book store. I'm not allowed in that place, but yet, my car always seems to end up in the parking lot. And an hour later, I am walking out with 5 books. What happened in between is all a bit of a haze. Why did I buy 5 books? I don't really have the money right now for them, but yet, I bought them anyways. I swear it's like your sleep walking through the place picking up anything that you think you might want to devour! And when you are in that sleep walking state of mind, common sense just can't break through! So, I'm sitting here looking at my 5 new books. 3 of them go right along with my typical reading habits in the last couple of years: Veil of Midnight by Lara Adrian, Touching Darkness by Scott Westerfeld and Phantom in the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The other 2 that I picked up seem to be bringing me back to the kinds of books that I always read before. About 2 or 3 years ago, if you had asked me if I would EVER read a fantasy book (besides Harry Potter or Twilight) I would have laughed at you. I HATED fantasy growing up and never even thought to give it a try as a grown up. Now, that seems to be just about all that I read. So, who knows, maybe buying a couple of books tonight that are more along my typical reads before means that I am going to start balancing my different tastes better! :) Anyways, I am a cowgirl at heart and so I picked up The Heart of Horses by Molly Gloss and The Horse God Built by Lawrence Scanlan.
Shazzy wrote: "...I also hate when they fold the pages, why can't they use a bookmark?"LOL, I explain that folding down pages is unacceptable, that I'm quite anal about my books and they need to take care of them. My friend who borrows most of my books is so aware of my "issues" (she thinks I'm crazy) she fears creasing the spines and even bought me a new copy of A Rush of Wings when she accidentally bent the cover. LOL
LOl wow I'm not that bad because I'm a dogearring person but lend out book to friends What! That's like lending out my son LOL It doesn't happen.

At least you guys are nice enought to lend out some of your books. I very very very rarely ever, if ever, let anyone borrow mine, probably because of bad experiences in grade school. It always seemed whenever I let anyone borrow something like a pen or a ruler, I never got it back. The same thing happened once or twice with my books, and that was one time too many for me. I might let a family member borrow a book, but I refuse to let anyone else borrow anymore. On another note, I've got some news that will probably make you, my fellow book buying addicts, jealous. At the library where I work we are currently doing some big time weeding of adult mysteries and other fiction. All the books we withdraw are then offered for sale, but as an employee and one of the people doing the withdrawing, I get first dibs. In just the last month, I've come home with almost one HUNDRED used books! And we're only about a third through the collection! I'm not crazy, right? You guys understand, don't you? I mean, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, to be able to buy almost whole series at extremely low used book prices. Talk about feeding an addiction. It's a good thing I just bought four new bookcases, because I really need the space now. :-)
Book buying addicts unite!!So I am trying to make a list of e-bookstores, and I only have about a handful.
So, my fellow bookbuyer addicts, where do you guys go to purchase your e-books?
Here is the list so far: The List
Hi my name is Lauren and I am a book buying addict. I love to buy them. Almost every weekend I come home with a couple of books. If I don't go out I order them and of course it's free shipping for purchases over $25 so I get just enough to get the free shipping. My computer room is being lined with books.I just bought the new BDB book and will be going to target over the weekend to get the 3rd book in the Demonica series. I look all over the place too buy new or used books for cheap but used books seem to cost more in shipping end of things. I have not ordered from that one site Betterworldbooks.com (free shipping) but I am waiting for pay day!
Hi My name is Catherine and I am a book buying addict. I came to that realization when I looked at my bank statement for the past 2 months and noticed that I was at an average of $250.00 a month I am spending on books. I do e-books, Amazon and borders. I am even on a first name basis with some of the girls that work there.

Oh, I don't even dare add up how much I've spent on books this year! I'd probably have a heart attack! lol!

Kelley Anne wrote: "Oh, I don't even dare add up how much I've spent on books this year! I'd probably have a heart attack! lol!"I could never add mine up either if I did I would have to hide it from my hubby. lol
I try to not look at the total amount spent each month on books. I've started using cash when buying because then there is no way to track it and I can't feel bad lol.But I also don't really spend money on other things besides food. Sooo it's not that bad right? lol.
Catherine wrote: "Hi My name is Catherine and I am a book buying addict. You definately belong here with us. But please tell me that is a typo and you meant $25.00 not $250.00. I thought I was bad, but nowhere near that. My worst has probably been $50.00 in one month, but not every month. How on earth do you even read all the books you must buy with that much money?
Well to be honest I thought it was an error as well till I check my borders rewards card and my amazon account and there it was in black in white. As for the reading I don't really watch tv at all and I can squeeze a couple hours in at work as well. I read kinda fast which is my problem. I know how sad my life sounds. Writing this I realize may this is bad.

Catherine wrote: "Well to be honest I thought it was an error as well till I check my borders rewards card and my amazon account and there it was in black in white. As for the reading I don't really watch tv at all ..."Nah, not necesarily a bad thing. Not watching tv is definately not a bad thing at all. I assume you are doing your reading at work on break time and not when you should be working, of course. And so long as you aren't ignoring important things like eating. sleeping, breathing :-), I don't see much wrong. In fact, you have me a bit envious. I pretty much read whenever I have free time, but I usually can only get through about a book a day.
As Desiderus Erasmus wisely said "When I get a little money, I buy books. And if any is left, I buy food and clothes."
Well I don't ignore eating and breathing sleeping well If I am at a good point you know how you always say ok I will put this down when I come to the next chapter and 5 chapters I look up and it is now 2am and I have to be up by 6am. That has happen more often than I would like to admit. Yes i do read on my break time and also when there is down time at work. Like when they are traveling for business and no on is in the office like today.

Personally I think that most of us have probably lost some sleep because we couldn't stop reading! My problem is that I lose sleep several times a week because I can't put a book down! lol! Oh well, I guess that's just another sign of being addicted!

Catherine I also read alot and don't watch t.v. My read for 2009 is already over 220 I think. When I'm home and have nothing to do, I read and I read fast at that. So I get through books rather quickly. It doesn't mean that we don't have lives lol!!I've definitely read way too long into the night to finish a book. In fact I did some of that last night. oops.

To make matters worst my boss just asked me to go pick him up a book at the store that they are holding for him. Oh the temptation, well borders here i come again.
I've actually cut back this year. I've only read 102 books so far, counting both fiction and graphic novels. As for the amount of money I've spent, well... that's a number better left undisclosed.

Ok I have either come up with the perfect solution to my addcition or I will make it worse. I was offered a two day a week job at borders where I can get 33% off all books I buy and I get to borrow books. I am sure that this will cut down what I am spending now on buying books I am not sure how it will play out in the end. Some feed back please !!!

It's definitely going to save you some money since you can borrow books. But I know if I worked there I would probably end up buying books because of the discount. (that's a pretty decent discount). You may end up spending more money because you get more money off and such.
I have to admit I'm a bit jealous too. 33% off is pretty good for new books. I'm sure if I had a deal like that most of my paycheck would go right back to my employer, like it seems to do when I buy used books at the library where I work.

I have read 91 books so far this year, if my record is right. My goal is 300 or more this year. My husband claims I spend $100 a month but I don't really know and neither does he :) He just looks at how much I spend shipping books out via PBS. He doesn't know how much booksfree is a month. I try not to buy books on line very often. I did buy a group from amazon this year, and 2 groups from New Concepts publishing. I think that's all.....oh yeah and a couple from ebay. Shame on me! That mail man better make me happy today, he didn't bring me any books yesterday, the cad!

You know you're a book addict when you can correctly use the word "cad" in a sentence. :) Trust me, I've done it myself!Looks like I've read 110 so far this year.
I just had to share this incredible deal with my fellow ABBA (Anonymous Book Buying Addicts). :-)I just happened to find buried in my wallet a Borders gift card I had forgotten I even had. Turns out it was only worth about $3, but even so I decided to head to the store to see what I might be able to use it for. Anyway, I go in and see they had a couple of clearance tables, books selling for 3-6 dollars. One happened to catch my eye, a title I had read and thought I would like to add to my library. Turns out, this hard cover was originally priced about $25 and now they wanted to sell it for only about $5!. I take it to the register, turn in my gift card, and get a cool $25 hardcover for only a buck twenty-five! Talk about a nice deal, huh? :-)
Sometimes I just want to smack myself. I swear I just went into the local WalMart to get the new Katie MacAlister book, and I came out with SIX BOOKS!

LOL!! that's rough. I went into a used bookstore the other day and the same thing happened to me. But at least there the books were only like 2 or 3 dollars a piece.

I worked for a number of years at B.Dalton and then at BN part-time just for the employee discounts and the occasional ARC. Everytime I got paid I just gave them the check back and then some.

Melodie wrote: "I worked for a number of years at B.Dalton and then at BN part-time just for the employee discounts and the occasional ARC. I knew I would have spent all my money there.
How much are the discounts at those 2 stores? I spend enough already that it might be worth looking there for a part time job! :)

Kelley Anne wrote: "How much are the discounts at those 2 stores? I spend enough already that it might be worth looking there for a part time job! :)"I'm not sure what they are anymore. I did the part-time thing at B.Dalton from 1988 to 1993 and then did at BN in 1996. I'm thinking back then it was about 30%. Would imagine it is probably more than that now with all the deals you can get online. I buy most of my books at BAMM and get a minimum 36-40% on hardcovers.
I just thought that I would share this deal with my Fellow BBAAers. Books as low as $1.99 with .50 shipping.http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthre...
Hi my name is Susan and I'm a book buying addict!! Also very new to goodreads and the groups, but I have enjoyed reading all the comments out here so had to chime in! I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my Book Buying addiction as well as my anything vampire addiction!:)

Nope, your not alone! Welcome to both the group and to goodreads. Honestly, your book addiction tends to grow when you are on this website, but at least you now have company! There have been so many books that I have read and loved since joining that are books I probably never would have even noticed before! Hope you enjoy it!
