There is another series and your post sounds like the same series I was looking for. And the girls name is Sadie like you thought. It's called the Sadie Rose adventure series. I had only remembered the name rose being in in and that the books always had a yellow background. So that might also be the series you were trying to find if the Mandie series wasn't the right one.
