I have been so trilled to read all your responses to the first group of 3 question in the Apocalypsis Series "Buddy Read". It's amazing how so many different people can have so many different insights into the same book. Elle is paying attention, and I am sure she is just as thrilled!

If you missed the first 3 questions, you can still add your opinions and ideas HERE

As for Part 2, take some time to add your thoughts on these 3 questions. Remember, we are still in the first parts of Book 1, Kahayatle:

1. Do you think that Bryn was right to trust Peter so quickly, or do you think that her decision was more based on hunger and isolation as opposed to common sense?

2. Talk about your first impressions of Peter.

3. What do you think of Bryn and Peter's plans to escape their neighborhood, what would you have done in their place - the same thing or something different? When packing up, think of the things they left behind, would you have made different decisions? Would you have added anything to the list of must-takes?

Mary | 17 comments I only have time to answer one right now :-)

1. I do think Bryn was right to trust Peter so quickly. Although I believe some of her decision was based on hunger and isolation, I believe she also used common sense to "take his measure" and decide that he could be trusted. He was smaller and younger than her and she knew she could take him in a fight if he tried anything. Bryn also knew Peter had a sense of humor and some ideas that might be valuable to her. Peter was a good fit for the point she was at right then. If, however, Bryn had met Bodo first, I don't think she would have trusted Bodo and she would have set off alone.

1. I agree with Theresa. She knew if Peter tried anything she could take him out. I also think she felt a little mothering toward him because he was smaller. She needed to take care of him.

2. I was so excited for Bryn to find someone to be with her. I loved his sense of humor.

3. I think they made the best decision they could under the circumstance. Everything had so fast.

I don't think Bryn necessarily trusted Peter right away. I think the hunger and isolation thing motivated her to do what was expedient and clearly she could protect herself from him if she needed to. All of Elle's characters have a huge capacity for love although they try to hide it behind a tough exterior, and I think Peter touched that soft side of Bryn pretty quickly.
My first impression of Peter was that he's a survivor like Bryn with lots of brains and no brawn whatsoever. Hard to say what else they might have brought. Bryn seems to have McGyver-like skills where she will be able to find or make whatever she needs.

Tracey Murphy (r1anna) | 37 comments What I really loved was the evolution of Bryn....an isolated, antisocial girl who knows survival skills and maybe not so many social skills. I think the circumstances led to Bryn trusting Peter so quickly, she does not know about the canners yet, so it's just her normal anti social behavior that she is displaying and thinking she needs to start to change. and I agree with Margaret that Bryn assessed the situation and knew she could take Peter therefore the thought of food beside pasta motivated her.
I think they already knew that moving was going to have to happen...Bryn's dad make that clear to her repeatedly. Once the gang started attacking the choice was made. I think they did a very good job of trying to pick the best of their choices of what to pack.

My turn!

1. Do you think that Bryn was right to trust Peter so quickly?

I think Bryn was pretty much at the end of her rope, she knew she was almost out of supplies and things were getting dangerous, she was isolated and knew she would need to 'move on' soon. I think her finding Peter came at just the right moment for both of them, having someone to look out for somehow brought Bryn back to reality, and jolted her into action. Trusting Peter was easy, he was smaller, weaker, and alone, and he needed Bryn more that she needed him at first. She still kept her guard up, but soon she realized that Peter was her perfect compliment.

2. Talk about your first impressions of Peter.

I thought he was so odd and so lonely, and so needy of someone, anyone, to be with. After all he had been through, Bryn really was his best case scenario, she filled in his blanks in survival knowledge, and he filled in her needs to know what was really going on in the larger world. I found him to be sweet and needy, funny, but also earnest and trustworthy.

3. What do you think of Bryn and Peter's plans to escape their neighborhood?

I think that their decision to bike out was a wise one, though it did limit what they could take with them. In the end, their hand was forced to move faster than expected, but their preparedness was good. I don't think they had that many options of what to take with them, so they did the best they could. I would have taken more first aid type stuff if I had had it, or even made things from bed sheets and old clothing, because injury could really mean death as they traveled, but that's more about me being a nurse, and less about them not taking everything they could have.

Mandy Jamerson | 3 comments 1. Everyone's opinions here seem to match mine. She was hungry, knew she could take care of herself, and though she quickly gained trust in Peter, she didn't trust him immediately.

2. My first impression of Peter wasn't exactly what he ended up being. Being that he had survived for so long, I expected him to be stronger. As Bryn describes him, I start to see this sad little guy whom I start to want to protect myself. I do so love him attitude though!

3.The idea to leave was definately a smart move. They had to get to somewhere they could actually try to start over. You can't live in isolation like they were, and survive. I was astounded at the way Bryn's dad had prepared her. I would hope I would have the ability to do the same for my children if the need arose.

1. Bryn is a fighter and she has to go on her instincts I think she just kind of knew that Peter was ok.
2. I love that he was so funny.
3. Taking the bikes was a great idea. Glad Bryn’s dad got her ready for what was to come.
