Becky  (nvrayn) | 25 comments I am new to this group and I have a couple of thoughts on Denna and Kvothe's Lute Case. I would be interested in your ideas on the subject.

We know that Denna is more than she seems, I personally don't trust her. I believe her rantings about her various suiters getting too close, is her way of keeping Kvothe at a distance, but still keeping him where she wants him.

I also believe there is more to the lute case than meets the eye. Why would she have put so much time and expense in having such a nice case made when he would have been thrilled with something that didn't cost so much. I think there is magic or something in the case that helps her keep tabs on where he is. She knows he is never going to be far from his lute, and she can just happen to turn up when she feels the need.

Gavin But he didn't have the lute in Trebon. I think your idea is a little far. Personally, don't see it, but you never know.

Oh and I am less than thrilled to have another Denna hater.

It's Becky's opinion not to trust Denna. Don't judge, that isn't what the page is about.

It's an interesting theory Becky. I probably wouldn't give it too much weight at this point, it was just a token to show how much Denna cared for him. Although it did save his life on the trip to the Maer.

Becky  (nvrayn) | 25 comments I didn't say I hated Denna... I said I didn't trust her. I have people in my life that I care deeply about, but that doesn't mean I trust them.

I understand that my idea about the case is a bit far fetched, but I just have this gut feeling about it that won't go away.

Gavin I have a few of those too ;)

Charlotte (lostoceans) | 8 comments I don't think Denna is a bad person, I dont think she could do anything intentionally bad to Kvothe. but I wouldn't be surprised if she did something with good intentions that went wrong.
I guess it would have something to do with the chandrian, her song and Master Ash. then lead to her death, causing kvothe to become Kote...?
I'm sure shes the key between Kvothe and Kote.

I thought this theory was interesting for sure.

I actually discussed it a bit with Becky before hand, but I'll throw out a bit for everyone's consideration.

I know a few of us around here support the Denna/Lackless theory. (not me, but eh) I think if that theory worked out somehow, or even if not, there could be an interesting parallel built around the lute case.

We've been presented with the Lackless Rhymes, and the Lackless box. It's suggested through the rhymes that within the box, is something required to open the lackless door. The poem more specifically states, In a box no lids or locks, Lackless keeps her husbands rocks.

Now I've never puzzled out the real meaning of that, though the more jokingly dirty meaning always gave me a giggle. But when I read this theory, it made the rhyme pop into my head. Interestingly, a previous Lady Lackless obviously kept something of importance to her husband in a magical and specially crafted box. This is somewhat similar to the lute case. Denna, indirectly, keeps Kvothe's most prized posession in - a specially crafted box as well. Whether it's magical or not, remains to be seen, but I think I may reread the description of said lute case. Especially since we now know Denna is somewhat proficient in the language of Yllish Story Knots. Something we know is also on the Lackless Box and I may have totally missed at the time because honestly, I didn't give much thought to the gift.

Also @Charlotte - I'm not so sure Denna is the key to that occurance. I'm, honestly, leaning more toward Auri. I know that would kinda suck, but through out the story, Auri is the only character Kvothe expresses a true and pure love for. While I don't doubt he'd miss and be angered by Denna's death or something happening to her unjustly - I think something happening to Auri would be far more devastating for his character.
