message 1: by Leigh Ann (new)

Leigh Ann I hope someone who has read this can help me. I've read the other two but I guess I've forgotten what's going on. Why is that Betsy can visit Caleb's dad in the hospital but Nellie and her dad feel they wouldn't be welcome. Did Betsy's mom not join the new church? Also, why is Caleb in the dawdi haus? He didn't join the new church so it can't be that. Was it over his and Nellie's little incident on the courting couch?

Belinda I haven't read the part where Betsy is visiting Caleb's dad yet but the reason behind him having to live in the Dawdi house was over the incident on the courting couch. His dad wanting him to "pay for his sin" by working for his Grandfather (like paying off a debt) and instead Caleb's dad go into an accident and called Caleb home. I will admit to skipping around a little (looking for Roseanna's story) and saw that Caleb does get his birthright back (it was suppose to go to another brother after the couch incident). I know you posted this back in 2009 but I am reading the book now and saw the question. :-)
