Joseph | 2433 comments Finished Downbelow Station and it's only with great effort that I'm not going on to read all of C.J. Cherryh's subsequent Merchanter books. Instead I'm reading her very first novel, Gate of Ivrel.

Kate O'Hanlon (kateohanlon) | 778 comments Haven't seen Downbelow Station in the bookshop yet, so I've picked up Glamour in Glass, which looks to be a nice relaxing book.

Matthew Anderson | 60 comments I'm reading The Ghost Brigades. It's as good as Old Man's War, maybe even better in parts.

Sandi (sandikal) | 1212 comments Jason wrote: "Reading the Dresden Files series at the moment, on book four now"

I finally got my son to read the series. He's on Blood Rites.

I picked up A Clash of Kings again after a months-long break. I'm much more into it now.

I'm listening to Downbelow Station, but I'm experiencing technical difficulties. Every time I update my iPod or pause to listen to something else, it loses my place in the book. I've had this problem with other audiobooks occasionally, but this is happening every single time with this one. It really sucks trying to find where I left off. I got to the end of the first part this afternoon and switched to a different audiobook rather than lose my place again.

Sandi (sandikal) | 1212 comments Forget what I just wrote. The latest Mercy Thompson book, Frost Burned, came out today. Downbelow Station will just have to wait until I'm done listening to that. This is one series that I love in audio.

message 56: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Namadan (jnamadan) | 218 comments Finally got my Audible credits so listening to The Well of Ascension. Work from home due to the snowquester, so I'll be making a dent in it today. Finished The Story of the Stone and it was kinda a letdown after Bridge of Birds: A Novel of an Ancient China That Never Was. Just seemed off. Probably hold off in reading Eight Skilled Gentlemen

Nokomis.FL (nokomisfl) | 316 comments Going through Julie Czerneda's Stratification series while waiting for David Weber's latest Honorverse variant featuring the Michelle Henke character (not Honor) to finally appear on Audible. Weber's books always seem to have an delay on Audible.

I guess it speaks to my ability to judge literary works. I've seen more than a few comment on Storm Front as not so good/ something to be skipped in favor of later novels in the series after Butcher had gotten more experience as a writter. Having finished it, sure it had a few problems, but I still enjoyed it.

Moving on to Fool Moon, and still slogging through DBS.

message 65: by Joe (new)

Joe Deisler | 51 comments I started reading The Teleportation Accident under the impression that is was science fiction. I'm about 50 pages in and it doesn't appear to be at all, but I guess we will see...

Oh. I liked it a lot, but I've seen people read the first book and wonder what the big deal is. Glad you liked it.

Joseph | 2433 comments Finished Gate of Ivrel -- it was short (and really, really good) and am headed through the Gate with Morgaine and Vanye for the Well of Shiuan.

Carolina I finished The Clearing and I will be reading Hiddenfor my sequel challenge. I want to start The Historianthat has been in my bookshelf for a while now, but since I'm having quite a struggle with this month pick, I'm not sure if I will be able to tackle another big book.

If you're struggling with this month's pick, you definitely don't want to read The Historian. That book was twice as long as it should have been. It was also an exercise of style over substance.

Carolina Sandi wrote: "Carolina wrote: "If you're struggling with this month's pick, you definitely don't want to read The Historian. That book was twice as long as it should have been. ..."

I was struggling during book 1. Book 2 is better so far. The problem was not length wise, but structure wise. I've heard wonderful things about
The Historian and since I have it in Spanish (my mother tongue) I'm guessing it should prove itself easier to read for me.

Just to offer an alternate perspective, I couldbt put The Historian down. The multiple Povs and technique kept me interested.

I too happened to really that book and would suggest it to people interested in it.

message 76: by Micah (new)

Micah (onemorebaker) | 1071 comments On the non-fiction for fun reads front I recently just started reading Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime and find it really compelling. I don't usually get that into politics but this book seems to have so much behind the scenes to it that I can't put it down.

message 77: by Tamahome (last edited Mar 09, 2013 07:14AM) (new)

Tamahome | 7218 comments Avengers vs. Thanos, for the Jim Starlin Warlock comics. A depressed superhero with a soul stealer jewel in his forehead, whose best friends are Pip the Troll who has zero morals, and Gamora, the most dangerous woman in the universe, lol. Not all the Warlock comics are there unfortunately. I just wish most sentences didn't end with an explanation point. It's not printed on true comic book yellow paper, but a least it's in color. Maybe I should order Essential Warlock - Volume 1 (but it's b&w).

I will give it a try this week-end, I'm finally moving faster with Downbelow. Thanks for the advice!

Jim Heivilin | 45 comments Has anyone else tried Michael Stackpole's Crown Colonies books? (At The Queen's Command is the first one)

I've read both and am anxiously awaiting the next one.

message 81: by Paul (new)

Paul (latepaul) After finishing Downbelow Station I figured I would try something lighter/easier so I thought I'd finally see what the fuss about Harry Dresden was about and read Storm Front which was a lot of fun. Currently reading So Much Blood which is a mystery I've had lying around for a while. Probably going to pick up another Dresden book next.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments I started reading HHhH but after 30 pages might call it quits. I have a review copy of Oz Reimagined: New Tales from the Emerald City and Beyond to get into.

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished The City and the City. It was an interesting read. I think now I'll be jumping into Redshirts. Or I might go through my collection of unread books and pull out a random.

Probably my favourite book of one of my favourite trilogies. All payoff. The Alloy of Law is pretty decent too.

message 97: by Lee (new)

Lee (kiwifirst) Ha! You are going to be going a real trip with this book David. I am not sure how you'll find it. You know i gave it five, but I can see some people really not liking it at all. I guess it can also be about 'when' you read it. For me it was a perfect time, something different, it was odd, perverse, strange, interesting with a variety of wtf moments. I can't wait to see your comments.

message 98: by Lee (new)

Lee (kiwifirst) oh gods no! i just posted in S&L. Thats it, what is left of my non goodreads life will now be over as i spend countless hours trawling through here.

message 99: by Lee (new)

Lee (kiwifirst) @ Carolina, another perspective; I would use The Historian to prop your feet up whilst you read something else :)

Well the idea of a prison inside a star is pretty interesting.
