Sandy | 499 comments 4 stars from me as well, David. It will be interesting to see where he takes Rebus from here. And I appreciated that he obviously did his homework re: Rebus' COPD & the effect on his life.

JenniferAustin (austinrh) I had not read Ian Rankin before, and was happy to try a new author. I enjoyed the book and will certainly be looking up some of his earlier books!

Chris (chrissieml) | 152 comments Given this 4 stars. Now to start my quest for the rest of this series, and maybe the TV series too?
You swines, introducing me to this......

Mary C | 172 comments Christina - you expressed my opinion exactly. I had always avoided Ian Rankin, thinking it was a bit too "noir" for me (I think I confused him with Stuart MacBride), but if this is an indication of the rest of the series, I'm on board for it. Not sure I'll watch the TV series just yet - I prefer to read the books first, if possible. I think the first one was Knots and Crosses, and it took a bit to find a copy. I am now eagerly awaiting its arrival.

BookCrazy | 1 comments I recommend Ian's books on a regular basis. I started reading them many years ago, with Strip Jack and eagerly await each new book. Ian has let John Rebus age and deal with retirement and aging. He's not afraid of social issues. He's not afraid of wrapping up a book with who did it, yet at the same time leaving bigger questions unanswered. Ian respects his readers.

If you get the chance, watch interviews with him from various book festivals. You'll appreciate his writing even more. As an interviewer, he is excellent. He reads the books of the authors he interviews and asks really intelligent questions.
