Dee- you know that I got your back, girl!
And, Meghan, for you my friend :)

My younger daughter got me into the Ravelry site as she is into not only knitting but spinning, weaving and dyeing but largely I hang out there to see what she and her sister (also a knitter, crocheter) are doing. Books have always been one of the two top internet uses for me -- the other is genealogical research and I'm not settled enough to resume research yet so it's books -- and friends found through the love of books heading the web use for the moment.
The other thing is that I'm a computer "dummie" as the book series but the things which I know how to do with the lovely and irksome machines I do spend quite a bit of time on. Hee-hee.

I think I had a myspace account for one week before deleting it. So when my older brother sent me a facebook link about a year and a half ago, I was really reluctant to join, even if it involved exclusive folk fest pictures of my nieces and nephews. Since then, I've had a few friends repeatedly mention it to the point that I finally caved in this week and signed up.
I'm still figuring out how it works, but it already seems much better organized than myspace, which really shouldn't be considered such a feat, but is.
the one thing I don't like about it so far is that the pages take forever to load, but I'm thinking that's a local issue.

OH MY GOOD GOD that was funny! I'd be hard pressed to outdo that! My mom came in to say something in the middle of it and I made her wait rather than pausing, I found it so dang funny!
What the heck is this Oregon Trail thing? I can honestly say I am completely in the dark on this one.
I have Facebook only because I have cousins in Canada that only do that (versus myspace). Most of my other cousins are on myspace, however, and that's often how we keep up with each other. I have loads of "top friends" only because the majority of them are family members! For that reason I can't get rid of myspace for sure... Facebook I rarely go to, so I dunno. Just like checking in with the far away family now and then. I did go on a date with a guy from there though, oddly enough! But that is a story for another time... hee!

"The game was popular among American elementary school students in the mid 1980s to early 1990s. Many students in the United States had access to the game at school."
You would have been graduating high school in the late 80s while I was in elementary school.
Not that I'm calling you old or anything.

I still have my myspace account since most of my friends are still old school that way. But I'm rarely on it any more. I just prefer goodreads because I have found meeting people through books is a better way to find more compatible (and well, likeable) friends than the randomness of these other sites. Also less internet stalkers here which is a plus.

Here's a link to my online album of wedding pics at Facebook :-)

Hugs to all!

Shaindel: CONGRATS! Thanks for posting the wedding pics. What an awesome and unique way to tie the knot. I WISH YOU THE BEST!
P.S. I've never heard of Oregon Trail. The first computer game I ever played was called Lemonade Stand (sounds similar), where you had to order the right amount of sugar, water, lemons, depending on the chance of rain, etc. You had to use your "resources" wisely. Anyway...

I plan to use facebook kind of like linkedin, but for friends - mostly just to keep in contact with friends and also as a catch all for all these separate social networking sites I've joined. It's convenient to be able to have a social networking hub of sorts, for organizational purposes if nothing else.
and on a mostly unrelated note, but kind of similar to Oregon Trail, any one ever played the board game Settlers of Catan? pretty addictive. I think there's an online version around somewhere too.
Sixth grade in '85? Good GOD, woman! I graduated high school in '86! Going to school in the Silicon Valley, our schools got computers much sooner than other parts of the country... still the use of them in the classroom and the specific classes were all integrated into the curriculum the year after me - in grade school, junior high school, and high school. So my brother worked with them all the time, but not me. Needless to say, I have no clue about the Oregon Trail thing. Oh, and Miss Sarah, you'd better watch it with those age comments! Remember, I'm going to be there when you turn 30!!!

(I say these things to my husband, who's your age, all the time. Hee)
Just looked at the pictures, Shaindel. There was an awful lot of photo's of Lee, and not many of you... isn't it supposed to be all about the bride? LOL I think that's a cool place to have a ceremony. One of my favorite things is trail running or hiking. I'd just miss dressing up in the pretty white things!

Actually, it's just the number of comments for this group, not the site as a whole. If you go to a different group and look you'll see a different number. You can also look at the members in order of amount of postings if you like.

There's a Gilmore Girls application that allows you to put pictures and quotes from the show on your profile, and includes a never-ending trivia game that is one of my favorite procrastination tools. It's totally worth it just to get a Facebook for that!

Anyway, there's my profile if anyone wants to friend me. Facebook is really awesome!

Erica, that's so funny you ask! I do have it and started reading it but then had a big life interruption, got into the group's books and recommendations, and haven't gotten back to it. But it is obviously one I do want to read soon.
I've been thinking more seriously recently about doing a blog... because I always have these random things to rant or rave about, or memories to share, and I end up spewing a few too many of them here... I don't think at this point I'd feel so much of the pressure of posting as I used to feel. It's the getting started that's always roughest!
Thanks for thinking of me... and you should post your blog here so some of us could go check it out now and then!

Plus I had no idea where to get started again! So many things going on! So how is everyone!??
Michelle, you should definitely do a blog! I would definitely read it!
I am mad about finding out about the GG application, it is the last thing that I needed to know about! Yay, more ways to stall cleaning!
Ok, here is my blog -
justbecause-erica.blogspot.com.
I don't make any claims that it is thrilling or anything to write home about. It is just me spouting off sometimes (good and bad spouting). I mainly did it because my sister did one and I liked it, and she is in Scotland for a year and it is a great way for us to keep tabs on each other when we don't have time for long updating emails! It works.

Oh, Michelle, if you ever decide to do the tour guide thing, I suggest you do a tour for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, I can be your interpreter! (shameless plug, i know!).
Okay, SERIOUSLY, where IS everybody?? This was the most active group on goodreads for months and months, we have over 1000 members, but like no one is saying anything anymore! Come back to me, people!! I miss you ALL!!!
Michele, I'm still here! *wave wave* I'm at the office so I can't post much, but I still keep tabs on what's going on in this group. But yeah, it's been rather quiet. On the topic of blogs, I just started one last month but can't seem to keep it up in a regular basis *sigh*. My last post was like, two weeks ago?
*wave wave* Thanks Dini. Remember when this used to be a crowded party? Did we stay too long or are they really "coming right back?" Sheesh. I'm starting to wish for a "poke" feature. Heh!
