We cannot use images from Librarything.

The manual only says book seller websites are prohibited, Librarything is not a book seller so why the prohabition?

Abe books has a 40% stake, but Library thing itself is classed as a social cataloging web application, you can not buy a book on it.

Well, AbeBooks is owned wholly by Amazon. And we can't use anything that is linked to Amazon and it's database in any way.

If thats the rule its the rule, but I believe that the manual needs amending to 'outlaw' Library thing as in itself it is not a bookselling website and most people would not consider it as such.

Sorry but the actual manual only states:

Adding book cover images

Please do not download or otherwise get cover images from Amazon. Acceptable sources for cover images include author and publisher websites, library sites, and various other public archives. Again, we cannot legally use any cover images from Amazon or other booksellers.

An individual user's scans or photos, taken of books they own or have in their possession, are also an acceptable source for cover images.

The link you supplied is helpful, but is not linked to the manual, which as the authoritive document is confusing.

Not sure what you mean by "the actual manual". The manual is far more than the opening page, which is why it has a search function.
