Grammar*Kitten (grammarkitten) If it's been published, shouldn't the publishers have had their editors proof read it for you?

Ruth Feiertag | 116 comments I think Elizabeth self-published it using CreateSpace Independent Publishing (https://www.createspace.com/) from Amazon. It seems to have a free option and additional paid services (https://www.createspace.com/pub/servi...).

Elizabeth, did you pay for editing? If so, you might show your editor the reviews and ask for a do-over.

Grammar*Kitten (grammarkitten) Ah I see, I didn't even think to look up how it'd been published.

I agree on the editor front though, if I'd done a job and there were still errors I'd be mortified and happy to do it again!

Ruth Feiertag | 116 comments Andrea,

I too! But I'm not sure if Amazon's editorial services work that way. I haven't taken the time to read even the semi-fine print.

Susan Z. Miller (szmiller) | 12 comments Hi Elizabeth,

If you do have a personal relationship with your original copy editor(s), I agree that it would be appropriate for him or her to offer you a revision, free of additional charge. Even novels that are published through massive houses, such as Penguin, still often have proofreading errors in them (I notice them frequently). But as a professional editor, I would think that any other editor would be happy to help you ensure that your work is polished, because that reflects back on him or her as well.

If you are seeking a new proofreader/copy editor, I'd be delighted to work with you. My website is located here:

Please feel free to email me at szmiller980@gmail.com if you are interested and would like to receive a quote based on your word count.

Best,
Susan Miller

Grammar*Kitten (grammarkitten) Elizabeth, editors are a strange type of creature, usually evolved from the annoying children that like to correct their English teachers' mistakes.

(Yes, I was one of those annoying children.)

Treat yourself - I've had a look and your book is getting good reviews. It clearly deserves that extra little bit of love!

[now to tout my own services, clearly. www.expresseditingsolutions.co.uk is where I am if you wanted to have a look!]

Susan Z. Miller (szmiller) | 12 comments I agree with Andrea. If you don't believe your work is worthy of investment, then your potential readers won't, either! :)

Grammar*Kitten (grammarkitten) One works spectacularly well with the Queen's own, Elizabeth old chum *puffs on an inspiringly Holmes-ish pipe*

I would love to hear about your proposed project whether you decide to use my services or not, it sounds very intriguing!

Another site where you might find some help is at SheWrites. It has a Virtual Critique Group: http://www.shewrites.com/group/virtua....

Even if you don't get a professional editor, you might get some useful feedback.

Grammar*Kitten (grammarkitten) How very intriguing-I can't wait to hear more about it!

Ruth Feiertag | 116 comments Elizabeth,

Have you been reading and watching the many Sherlock extensions and extrapolations out there these days? Some seem really well done.

Ruth Feiertag | 116 comments Elizabeth,

I didn't think I'd like Elementary either but gave it a fair chance because of Lucy Liu. So far I'm liking the BBC versions a bit better, but the programs' intentions are slightly different (the BBC is following Conan Doyle's plots for instance).

I did have a very hard time watching the new "Hobbit" movie though. It took a while before I could see Bilbo and not Watson.

Grammar*Kitten (grammarkitten) You guys are making me want to watch Elementary now - I missed the beginning, and I missed the re-runs when they were aired during the mid-season break! It pains me to have to wait for the DVD!

Ruth Feiertag | 116 comments Andrea,

Keep your eye out. The earlier episodes seem to be reappearing rather haphazardly these days. You may be able to catch the pilot before too long!

Ruth

message 15: by Grammar*Kitten (new)

Grammar*Kitten (grammarkitten) I might have to see if I can watch them online - I don't feel too bad about doing that with things I've missed because I do pay a sky subscription and thus could have watched them on that if I'd gotten my act together and recorded it in the first place!

message 16: by Ruth (new) - added it

Ruth Feiertag | 116 comments I think that's a fine idea. We "pay" for watching things on-line by having to view all those ads anyway. Go for it and let us know what you think.

Samantha | 1 comments Hi Elizabeth
If you're still looking for someone to proofread I would love the opportunity to get some experience on my CV. I would like to get into freelance proofreading but first am looking for experience. I have a 2.1 English Lit degree and am always picking holes in how things are written. I proofread for friends who write creatively and I've just finished writing the first draft of my first novel, a YA fantasy book. I'm good! Let me know what you think.
