Critics rave about This is us... Am I the only one that finds it boring?

Yeah, This Is Us isn’t for me. Shows like this are really boring to me now, which is interesting because I loved sappy, drama-filled plots some odd years ago.

It takes place in a New England fishing town where one night a fishing boat captures a mermaid. These mermaids are not exactly Ariel.
The coolest thing is the show is incredibly multicultural. Maddie the marine biologist, is black, her step-father is Native American, Xander one of the fishermen in black and his bff is Asian. The doctor in town is also Native American. One of the women who helps the mermaid is a Kiwi , and ne of the mermaids is black.
Outside of that the show is really well done. The mermaids are pretty badass. Just watched the fourth episode and I am enjoying all the characters and the storyline and the mystery of the town's history with the merpeople.

Two fathers with clashing views about their children's upcoming wedding struggle to keep it together during the chaotic week before the big day.
Very funny movie if you like Adam Sandler's humor.

Thanks for the recommendation Tina the concept of this one is pretty interesting and it is nice to see so many cultures in one setting so far I’m liking it.

Dirk Gently is a very strange show but for some reason I really liked the show's quirkiness........ Todd Brotzman and Farah Black don't really become a couple ...but there is a genuine attraction between them.......but of course, the moment I start to like & enjoy a show it gets canceled.......sigh......but the show was amazing while it lasted :)
The Expanse I was so into it from season 1 -2 but by season 3, I kinda gave up. I loved the show, but somewhere along the way it kinda got a lil too political for me. I mean, the show lost the initial reason how the story started (that weird alive alien fungus).
Oh and guess what? this show got canceled too :(
Here and Now, this show was very diverse in terms of culture and sexuality. But, to be honest they kinda dragged the whole mysterious premonition/flashback thing a lil too long. A lot of "side tracked" things happening that you kind of forget why this show existed in the first place. Oh, this one is canceled too ...go figure....
Another show I really wished will be revived or given proper ending is Still Star-Crossed. The show ended way too soon and in a cliffhanger too ........ugh ........one more season .....to complete it.
Really liked the costumes they used in the show.

Have you watched the show yet ? "
Nope not British. It is set in the a place called Boring, Oregon (a real place btw). The show is cute. One thing ..."
OH my GOD! Yes I binge watched the whole show ........I was so angry when I found out they canceled the show .....But at least it ended properly (almost).
I really liked Jahi and I think he is really cute and awesome actor!!! I had no idea his character was intended for white guy. Well, I did notice they almost never mention about race, which I think is really cool because it produced an amazing couple....... so sweet.......No, I'm not taking about teen love.....I'm talking about Luke's mom and his principle......OMG I was smiling every time they come into the scene.....so cute ....so sweet. Ugh....
Why can't they show more "realistic" single parent love stories like that......I was so happy they got back together in the end :)

I watch Siren too, I love love the mermaids .....thank god... they don't look like the Disney's mermaid or the i'm too-sexy-to-cover-my-boobs look either.
To be honest they look a lil creepy and I LIKE EM!!
I love the IR couple too, but I always had this feeling that they won't last because of Ryn.....She is making things complicated between Ben and Maddie. I too was shocked by the diversity in the show too, call me desperate but I kinda wanted Donna and Chris to hook up.......but unfortunately .........that didn't happen..........sigh.....
I hope they don't screw up the show and please don't cancel it .....

Oh drat. I didn't know The Expanse was cancelled. I'm here watching the 3rd season and looking forward to each episode. That sucks.

I already pay for cable. I'm not going to pay for any streaming service as well. I will perhaps once I figure out what I will do with my cable service.
I enjoyed the end of Expanse on SYFY. Glad to see that Naomi and Holden (IR couple) ended up together.

When a hapless but dedicated talent manager signs his first client who actually has talent, his career finally starts to take off. Set in 1984.

Stars Theo James who lives on west coast with fiancee Kat Graham. He goes to ask her dad (Forest Whitaker) for his blessing, while he is gone some sort of end of the world thing happens where she is, so his whole focus is getting back to her.

I agree

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfdg...

It features two IR couples one a BM/WW (he's a vampire, she's a human assassin) and a BW/WM (she's a powerful witch and he's a human badass).
I like how both love stories unfold. The vampire/assassin couple is long term, a lot sexier, and have a great conflict. They also have a lot of sexual chemistry. The vampire is played by Peter Mensah and he is always very good.
The witch/badass couple are sweeter, a slower burn friends-to-lovers couple. They also have a good conflict and you can see Harris' romance novel roots in the way their story unfold.
The witch btw, is played by Parisa Fitz-Henry who played Meghan Markle in the Meghan/Harry Lifetime movie. And even though she is not the love interest to the main character, her story arc makes her feel like the heroine of the show. And her love interest (who is the second billed actor in the show) is a textbook romance novel hero archetype.
As a bonus the show also features an m/m couple (who actually get to kiss on the mouth on network tv).
Season 2 is set to start airing in October.

Update****
In the last episode Peter asked Angela to marry him and she said yes.

Can a black woman never be shown on tv as having a loving happy relationship?
On the ABC show STATION 19, Seattle's Fire Chief played by Brett Tucker was in an IR relationship with Vic played by Barrett Doss. They were just getting warmed up. The two together were fun and sexy with chemistry... Low and behold, they freaking killed him off last night. I am so pissed! This is why I don't watch much tv or movies.

It's like they're saying, 'well, we gave them a IR relationship, now let's move on to the real deal.'
Believe me. I feel your anger and frustration.
right now I don't even read a book unless the heroine is a BW and it shows on the cover and if she is the star but not shown on the book cover, I pass. They should be bold enough to put her likeness on the cover.
Sorry got off topic, alot of this crap just pisses me off

No need to apologize Emotonal. Here's the kicker - the show is produced by Shonda Rhimes - a black woman. Now I have come to understand that she clearly has mental issues... But she's a black woman!!!

She should understand our frustrations with that issue, she is suppose to change the narrative, throw out the same old, same old, shake up the norm and drop it on it's ass but instead she is following the same old script.
She is suppose to stand out, lead the pack not be a follower.
What the hell is she thinking, If she wanted to kill someone off she should have killed someone in a WWWM relationship, there is a million and more out there in every movie and TV shows out,
A BWWM relationship is rare and should be preserved. even if it is just to throw your fist up at all the producers and directors who believe that kind of relationship shouldn't last or could be accepted by the public. even though it does, have they not seen Flash. It's in it's fifth season and the woman that's always been the love of his life, since he was 10. and is now his wife, is a beautiful black woman.
Shonda, Shonda, damn, what were you thinking? L am so disappointed in her right now and as you say, she is a black woman and should understand. God, this is so sad.
Have you seen Flash? you should, it will cheer you up a little. The couple have always been best friend but they're romantic relationship starts in the third season.
I know I won't assume anymore that because the producer/director of a show is a person of color means anything will be different.

The show is produced by her production company, but she has no hands on responsibility for the show. She hasn't written any of the episodes and is not the showrunner. In fact she no longer even works for ABC. She signed an exclusive deal with Netflix last year and is developing content for them.
She is to blame or the lack of any storyline for Stephanie on Grey's and for the shit show that became Olivia Pope, but not for this.

If the show is produced by her production company, she has the power to direct and shape the narrative.

About Midnight Texas, I love that show, which is surprising because of some of the content but I love Figi and Bobo, she is a badass witch and he is just a badass white man who loves her fiercely.

I never heard of Midnight Texas. I think I will have to check it out. How long has it been on ?

Oh okay. Maybe I'll find it on Kodi or something. Thanks Tina.

I very much welcome a mature couple finding love and getting their groove on.

Oh wow, I didn't know it was cancelled. Thanks for the update. I was looking forward to the third season.

Here is a look at the show: https://ew.com/tv/four-weddings-and-a...

There is a series called, Titans, that has 4 super heroes one of them is a black girl that controls fire and gets her energy from the sun, there is a beginning relationship with her and a white guy who is an ex robin from batman and robin but not like any robin you have seen before.
So far there is only a season 1 but a second season is in the works. i really enjoyed the first season.
For all the recs. posted here thank you, I will definitely check out the ones I haven't seen.

Operation Christmas Drop starring Kat Graham and Alexander Ludwig

Thanks for sharing this Tina.

Hm, I have no idea what its going to be about but I'm interested. Thanks for sharing! The four weddings, that is. Lol

Although I did like the series, let's face it, it is a textbook wallpaper hist rom regency. So I was disappointed that this is what Shonda was going to do right out the gate.
But then today the cast was announce and, well, let's just say --- it is waaay more melanated than the book series is. Ha!
Here's an article about the casting:

I just watched Amazon Prime's Ordeal by Innocence and there is a really smoking hot bwwm interracial couple played by Christian Cooke and Crystal Clarke. They are adopted siblings, which may not work for some. I personally am not bothered by it because they are not blood related.
Sidney, the main character, falls in love with a black woman from the United States in Series 4. I think he might leave to go be with her? I haven't seen all of the episodes yet.

Nope not British. It is set in the a place called Boring, Oregon (a real place btw). The show is cute. One thing that struck me as I watched it, was that I am sure the role of Luke (played by Jahi Winston who also played young Ralph Tresvant in BET's New Edition mini-series) was originally written for a white actor. Jahi must have really blown them away in his audition because the way the show plays out, race is never ever referenced -- in any way. They just never changed the script at all even though they cast a black actor and also had to cast a black actress to play his mother. And he is indisputably the lead character and his mom gets a love story as well. Also his bio dad (who divorced hims mom) is played by a white actor so the mom has two white love interests.
In other IR TV news, for fans of This is Us, Kevin who is played by Justin Hartley will be in an IR relationship with Beth;s cousin Zoe, played by Melanie Liburd. Melanie has announced that she will be a regular on Season 3 of This Is Us and we caught a little bit of their romance in the flash forward in the season finale that just aired last week.
And Finally, on SYFY the new Superman-themed show Krypton features an IR romance between Seg-El and Lyta Zod. Anyone who is familair with Superman knows that his father condemned Generl Zod to prison just before Krypton blew up. In this new it is a Romeo and Juliet situation as the house of EL and the house of Zod are not firends. And the House is Zod is headed by a black woman.
