This was a huge deal at the time, I remember. An AA woman getting a multi-picture deal with a major motion picture studio. The first of it's kind since the old days of the studio system where the individual studios pretty much controlled their own stable of stars and Lena Horne was the first AA movie star to sign exclusively with MGM.

Tina I love Drag Race too. Bianca Del Rio is my spirit animal. lol

I do the same thing. Also, I openly criticize lack of POC in the cast. When I was younger, I didn't have the guts to do that, because I was more worried about how people would perceive me.

Supposedly tomorrow, 10/7.
I hope they do right by Iris. It is the CW after all and their track record on WOC on their shows is abysmal (yes, I am looking at you Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Emily Owens, Supernatural... )

Tue Oct. 07 7:00 PM on CW. Tuesday is such a great and busy tv night I hope it does well. They are going up against NCIS.

Well based on the comics, The Flash and Iris will end up together.

I'm with you, Kim!!! I liked how they handled her death though, well the after effects on him about her death. He's been quiet and more reserved and just plain sad since she'd been dead. he only came back to work with them because Finch and the machine pretty much begged him to come back but he's been in total mourning and that's what I wanted to see. He doesn't smile anymore, or look excited, he just plods along.

And you know...he promised her he'd make sure her son was safe, but we haven't seen any scenes with him actually doing that. Or maybe he is afraid of putting her son in danger because of his current situation...

Has anyone been watching Chicago Fire on NBC?? because the hot australian dude from House is engaged to a black chick (who is the lead female) on that show, and its a pretty diverse main cast?? atleast as of season 3?? I might have to put it on my watch list.

That could never happen because in reality they had no romantic plans for Carter. She was always to be a temporary character. The actress said the actor Jim, is the one that kept it a surprise to everyone including her to kiss her and add the romantic element to make the loss of her character have more impact because viewers will be left feeling regretful for all the possibilities that was taken away from them. I think they could at least show his character checking in on her son from time to time to give his character that continued human element, but his character is suppose to have a before Carter personality and an after Carter personality.

I don't know how they could say there were no romantic plans for Carter and Reese. Did the showrunners even WATCH the first season??? because it was always there. and Jim was so on the ball for surprising us all with that kiss. Her death would have been very hollow without it, or them just having that heart to heart since she was mostly involved with that group because of John Reese.
I remember watching the first episode going "Shipping it so hard already" then I kept on watching and yeah my entire family were Carter/Reese supporters.

I don't know how they could say there were no romantic plans for Carter and Reese. Did the showrun..."
Tamara it's funny because I wanted so badly in my head the romantic connection to happen between Carter and Reese, I saw romantic elements in all their scenes just like I do in Sleep Hallow which I think they are trying to discourage it by making more romantic scenes with Katrina this season because they too are saying their is no romantic elements intended for Crane and Abby. But my best friend watches the both show to and she's White, she don't see the romantic elements.
She said it surprised her when they had the romantic kiss between Carter and Reese, because they hadn't even hinted at a romance, so she knew right then when he kissed her they was going to kill her off. lol
That made me wonder if I was so hungry for more romantic IR entanglements I will create one from the dynamic of the possibility just because one main character is a Black woman and the other a White man. Would I assume they were a hookup if they both had been white, or if he was black and she was white?
I think now that the networks notice that most number one shows now are shows that have a Black woman coupling with another race of man has a viewership there will be more of it even if they have to tease us enough to draw us in and never give us the big pay off.
Shonda has proven it's a popular concept and Black women make up a huge powerful viewership for networks. I think this is why Sleep Hallow ratings dropped this season. They take away are romantic hookup every time they emphasize the love between Katrina and Crane and that is not the relationship the viewers have invested themselves in.

HOWEVER, the majority of people watching the show are Ichabbie shippers white black and everything in between. they're now trying to brace themselves in case it doesn't happen by trying to not hate Katrina which is very hard for them for some reason.
My mother in law who is very white english lady who only knows black people who are related to me, screams at the tv everytime they're on screen going "just kiss already!" because Nicole and Tom's chemistry is the stuff of legend.
I'll admit that I am a chronic Bw/wm shipper but I've been right like 99% of the time, even Jim Cavieziel proved me correct with the Carter kiss because even his Reese mindset realized that there was a connection between the two of them.
Go and rewatch the show all over again and try to not to be biased and you'll still be like "omg now he's just showing off because Carter's there or why is he making that much effort for her alone and why are they making flirty eyes at each other?? I know I tried but I couldn't ignore it. Reese was very into Carter. Just like Crane is into Abby, Sam is into Mercedes and Fitz is into Olivia... well maybe not THAT much because damn!

When Taraji Hansson first left Person of Interest, the producers initially said she would be coming back for a few flashbacks, which is why a lot of people began to hope for more insight into their relationship. I never expected to see them flirt. What I was interested in seeing was when Reese realised he was in love with her. I don't need to see them flirting with one another. But a moment of recognition on his side and actually seeing it as a viewer would have been interesting.

It would have been nice to have seen some extra insight into the dynamics of their friendship.

I had these same sentiments with Prison Break when in the 'Killing your number' episode Mahone ended op with Felicia Lang as his love interest. I did not see that one coming and felt cheated that there was no build up to that relationship. (Then again: all the relationships in PB were so unbelievable clinical and so chemistry-less. I never even saw Michael and Sarah kissing). But Alex and Felicia was a relationship I would have loved to see blossoming.

I don't know how they could say there were no romantic plans for Carter and Reese. Did the showrun..."
You have to remember that until Scandal, black characters were not created to have a love interest on TV by and large unless it was with another black character and unless it was in a comedy by and large. It has always looked to me that they were developing romantic feelings for each other. I betcha if Carter was not black the writers would have them falling in love even if she was still later killed off.
I enjoyed the Carter character. Tara killed it every episode.

Exactly Justine! that's why they kept trying to push the Zoe angle who actually had less chemistry with Reese than Carter ever did. (I mean even via phone calls he was trying to flirt with her!!) so I honestly think that was the only thing stopping Carter/Reese and after Scandal all of a sudden Bwwm pairings were acceptable on tv and a ratings draw!!
Gisele, thats so true! I always wondered about them on Prison Break!

Love/Hate - Irish, and has an IR relationship with Rosie and Darren, played by Robert Sheehan and Ruth Negga
Some Girls - British, and has the adorable relationship between Rocky and Viva. This show is off, but season 1-3 were good.
Misfits - the UK version is much better than the U.S version.
I hope nobody mentioned these yet, or else this would be useless.
Thanks for posting this, Codie. :-) Arch and I were just talking about TV shows overseas that we need to catch up on. I need to hunt down some eps of Some Girls to check it out.

Excellent! I completely forgot to check Hulu for those. Thanks for the heads up. :-)

I so agree though. That's also why I love int'l shows. They don't have very many hangups with showing IR couples and the writing is engaging. I'm looking forward to checking these out.

Oh that's cool I've never seen that show, but Ruth Negga is awesome (ever since I saw her in Misfits) so I'd love to see that!

No problem! Hulu has a lot of international shows (that isn't on hulu plus) which is awesome! I'm glad that I'm not the only one enjoying international shows. If you find any other cool ones I'd love to see them.

I binge watched Some Girls a few months ago. The eps are all on Youtube too. So fun!

Oh great! I though YouTube only had season 3, I'm about to add that now! Thanks

Codie, if you can get your hands on a 2003 tv show called Burn It, that was pretty good and one of the main guys were one-half of an IR couple that unites during the show (the ending is kinda sad though).

Looks like someone posted a few eps on YT. Some were blocked for me but hopefully they work for you. The first vid on that playlist is one I made for a buddy years ago featuring the couple, Jon and Tina.

This is a nice case of color-blind casting as in the books and in the two other movies that featured Reba, she was white.
She is set to show up as a recurring character this summer as the show kicks off its third season.

Thank you! I saw the video and it looks good. I hope it's not going to end like a Liberty and JT situation like on Degrassi.

Yw! Sadly, it kinda does. :-( (I'm still salty about how Liberty and JT ended).
In the related vids, I saw there was an IR couple on Rookie Blue. Great chemistry and I was sucked into the story just by the clips. Another one that ended in tragedy. Sigh. I wish tv writers wouldn't resort to ending interesting couples like that.

Oh no, I hate those endings (JT & Liberty, Jal & Chris, when will it end!)
Yeah I heard about the couple on Rookie Blue and I was so excited about another black female cop (fighting "real crime" although I do like Sleepy Hollow) ever since The Wire I haven't seen many. Thanks for the heads up on Rookie Blue.
IKR! I told my sister that my tv shows kept killing my favorite characters or they left. I want good shows that don't end or kill good couples but Shameless proved that can't work.

Sadly though it feels like she gets less and less screen time as the series goes on. I pretty much gave up on the show because it became all about Andi's love life. And even some of the other characters felt sacrificed to her.

There is the Fire Chief who is black married to a white woman and just had a kid
There is Dawson (Afro-Latina) who is the main female lead, she had been in love with Casey (white male) for all of the series. They finally got together last season but they broke up this season and are still kinda orbiting each other
There is Mills (biracial) who has all sorts of relationships. Single for the moment
Cruz (Latino male) this season he was with the white female paramedic but they just broke up because she likes to go out to dinner and he likes to stay home and watch tv.
And just last week & this week YaYa DaCosta has been recurring as a possible love interest to Severide (the very hot Taylor Kinney who is sorta the bad-boy head of Squad). They went to high school together and he is reconnecting with her. Apparently she'll be a lead in a new spin off, Chicago Med.
Plus I just like the firefighter camaraderie they all have.

Another show would be Hit The Floor, with Zero dating everybody and he's absolutely gorgeous.
Both can be watched on Youtube
Interesting. I may have to check out Chicago Fire. I'll see if they have any clips on Youtube. Thanks Tina. :-)
Codie, I'll definitely check those out on Youtube as well.
Lots of goodies to hunt down. :-)

From the description sounds like Ghost Whisperer with a dash of Sleepy Hollow.

Oh, see, now, reality shows are a whole different kettle of fish for me. I tend to shy away from reality shows, esp. non competition reality shows and esp if there are POC on them.
I remember watching the very first Real World even back then they were trying to make Kevin Powell into some angry black man. Kevin Powell! He was this super cerebral righteous brother who, yes, was angry but he had a right to be. We were just coming out the Reagan years, black folks had a right to be angry about all sorts of stuff coming out the of Reagan years. Still he was more along the lines of a Toure angry rather than a Mike Tyson angry. Of course I had no idea what was in store when in came to reality shows in the future, but even then....smh.
My only real reality show that I love is RuPaul's Drag Race because those queens have a self awareness that makes me feel like it is less exploitative than most reality.
