Casey (Spencer Grammer) the girl that plays Amberleigh (Amber Stevens) best friend is Kesley Grammer daughter. I knew when I have first started watching the show, her last name looked familiar. So, one day, I've went to the Greek website and read up on the actors and actress and that's how I found out Kelsey was her father.

I had heart that Shadoe Stevens was married to a Black woman years ago. I'm glad they are still together.

You would be surprise who is married to a black woman. There's a cute doctor on Grey's Anatomy, who's Italian. I want to say. He's married to a black woman in real life.

I don't watch Grey's Anatomy.

I guess that a lot of teen shows display interracial, because a lot of kids are into interracial pairing. They would probably jump into an interracial pairing faster than an older person.

message 60: by LaVerne (new)

LaVerne (lavernethompson) | 77 comments Eugenia wrote: "Yea, kids are more open nowadays and that's awesome. With the internet these kids are friends with other kids all around the world, they get exposure to a lot more. "

That's true. My kids are perfect blends of two races and cultures. It makes them open to more possibilities. I think that gives them a greater chance of recognizing love when they see it because they will have no preconceived notions about what 'the one' should look like. Only what should be in his heart.

No kidding. But also consider how much crap they have to deal with that we didn't. Peer pressure is always bad, but I didn't get peer pressure to go to sex parties and do oral and worse so I wouldn't get made fun of. Nowadays kids have to deal with this crap all the time.

Adults have an interracial world open too.

message 64: by LaVerne (new)

LaVerne (lavernethompson) | 77 comments That's true Eugenia. Travel for anyone can be fun. If for no other reason you go to a new place with new people. And frankly travel outside of the US can be eye opening in many ways.

message 65: by new_user (last edited Apr 13, 2009 05:55PM) (new)

new_user I couldn't agree more, Eugenia. I think that's great that you encourage your neices and nephews to travel. With globalization as it is and the US's fingers in so many pies (LOL), I think it's irresponsible not to incorporate a more global education in schools, presumably future leaders and politicians. I think it's incumbent upon anyone who can afford it to try and travel. It's fun, yeah, but more importantly, it is eye-opening as LaVerne said and the experience can't be compared. Textbooks just don't cut it.

For example, I think the current US president's exposure to different cultures in his youth can only help him as an actor on the global stage. He has a much broader view of the world.

Justine | 1362 comments Eugenia wrote: "I don't think peer pressure has changed much, it's just in a new form. Their will always be peer pressure, I know they are exposed to a lot more than I was but good parenting can help kids deal wit..."

Everyone doesn't have the money to travel. I still think that people should learn about other people. Thank goodness for the library. I feel that a person can travel around the world, by going to the library.

I like meeting and talking to new people. That's one of my reasons for going to forums, groups, and even chatting with people. I have met people from around the world.

message 68: by Arch , Mod (new)

Arch | 6707 comments Mod
I know that a person doesn't have to be wealthy to travel, but you do need money to travel. If I was to go somewhere far, I want to stay at a very nice hotel, not a cheap one. I want to be able to buy food too. I never forget, I've watched a special that Halle Berry done. She was in Paris, if I am not mistaken and she'd gone to McDonalds to buy a cheeseburger and that burger cost $5.00. I am not use to paying $5.00 for a burger. A dollar plus tax yes. Before they closed Astro World down, I've gone more than once and I wouldn't even buy their water. I don't believe in paying a lot of money for water. I think a bottle of water was like $2.00 or $3.00.

message 69: by new_user (last edited Apr 13, 2009 07:55PM) (new)

new_user You won't see a flight to Europe for 200 bucks nowadays and outside the Western hemisphere, it's much higher. The last time I traveled to the Middle East I bought a roundtrip, coach-class for $2000. So it takes some saving, for sure. I wasn't implying it doesn't, but I think it should be a priority, where possible, for people who haven't gotten much exposure, never traveled, etc. As I said, books don't cut it.

I wouldn't consider Canada a very educational trip, considering it's very similar to the US. I wouldn't even consider it a very fun trip unless you like the nature. Niagara's nice.

I'm not saying that books will replace traveling. I'm saying that a person can travel around the world through books. You can learn about people, different cultures, etc.

The USA is a good vacation spot.

Eugenia,

Did I say that someone said that I said that books could replace traveling?

message 73: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL. No, I don't have anything against Canada. It's cool and all, but speaking of travel as a means to explore experiences and cultures outside your usual bubble-- Canada's not the way to do it, LOL. Vancouver's a very nice place to live, but it's not that exciting, imo, if you want to experience something different. May as well go to Orlando, LOL.

And yeah, why eat burgers when traveling? LOL. Sort of defeats the purpose, LOL.

Are you getting those tickets from a travel agency, Eugenia?

message 74: by Arch , Mod (new)

Arch | 6707 comments Mod
New_User,

If a person like a certain food, they will eat it no matter where they are at. Well, some people will. I am one of them.

For travel prices -airlines, hotels etc. Can I suggest Kayak.com. It's what's called known as a meta search engine. It will check all of the sites and give you the results. it therefore cuts down on you having to check so many websites for a good deal

You can do pretty good sometimes. I had to load Microsoft Office on mine and virus software, but it had most of what I needed. I mainly wanted a good computer for watching movies and doing multimedia stuff. I write and that's mainly what I do on my computer. I might use Excel or Power Point. Nothing too fancy.

message 87: by new_user (last edited Apr 14, 2009 02:45PM) (new)

new_user This is actually an ideal time to buy laptops, especially if your computer needs are basic. Prices have gone down. A couple months back, Best Buy was selling a decent one for $350. Just make sure the casing is tough enough to withstand some jostling (i.e. no plastic) and the battery life is long (my biggest peeve with laptops; they're not all that portable that way, LOL.)

Yeah, the technology took one of the biggest hits with the economy because they're luxury items so it's a buyer's market.

Did anyone catch Hawthorne? I just noticed it premiered this week and it looks to have a previous IR (Jada's late husband) and a possible potential IR with Michael "yum yum" Vartan if the little birdies that whispered in my ear are correct. Looks like it's going to be a good show based on the promo.
