TinaNoir | 1456 comments Apple TV+ has a new show starting on March 29th call The Big Door Prize. The main character is in an IR marriage. It stars
Chris O'Dowd (they stay keeping him in IR relationships, LOL) and Gabrielle Dennis (I LOVE her on A Black Lady Sketch Show) as his wife. It looks good,

I have been feeling like I need to watch Something New again now that I've aged. My overall impression left me just really annoyed by Kenya because, as you said, it was mostly her own issues that were in the way and nothing external other than the classism of her parents. I also see the willful thing you mentioned in regards to Simon's character. For some reason that bothered me less.

I was still in my early 30's when it came out, married (to a WM) with new babies and a lot of my views have changed in terms of experiencing more with relationships now so I'm interested to see how I'd perceive her reactions as the person (and even movie viewer) I am now. I think at the time I just kept wanting to slap her for pushing away this fine ass, well employed man. LOL

The blonde guy who looks to be the main love interest is also the new love interest in Season 3 of Big Sky for Kylie Bunbury's character.

Magali | 9 comments I started watching General Hospital (at least scenes from the show not entire episodes because daytime soaps are generally not my thing) for the gorgeous pairing of Spencer Cassadine and Trina Robinson, bwwm. Highly recommend, they're stunning.

Mosaic (yolo_yy) | 135 comments First Wives Club season 2 and 3 have BWWM romance (subplot) - Jayla and Jacob.

It's on netflix.

message 863: by Mosaic (new)

Mosaic (yolo_yy) | 135 comments Also, My Life with Walter Boys from Netflix has interracial romance (again with white love interests).

I'm kinda irked that Netflix don't even have any interracial romance starring with BW in teen shows. I don't even remember seeing any at all.

If Raybearer doesn't fall through, there’ll be that. (Though it’s fantasy too). But I know what you mean.

Smothered (on Sky for those in the UK) is a romcom with a bwwm couple.

There’s also Champion on BBC 1 (and, I think, Netflix). Which has a BW and Middle Eastern man. I’ve bought up colourism before on here but I just want to say that I love that both shows and couples have dark-skinned black women. There’s still a ways to go with colourism in the industry but this feels like things might be starting to change for the better. (They’re both unknown/newcomer actresses as well, which I always love to see.)

Forgot to mention 57 Seconds. It's a movie, and it's starring Lovie Simone in interracial romance with a white man.

message 867: by Mosaic (new)

Mosaic (yolo_yy) | 135 comments Also, want to bring honorable mention to After Yang, starring Jodie Turner Smith. It has interracial romance in it, but it's not the main genre of the movie.

Rebecca (ladyoftime) | 98 comments Mosaic wrote: Forgot to mention 57 Seconds.

I forgot about that film too! And yeah, the ir romance is quite a small part of After Yang, which I also forgot about! (And that’s probably why, lol. 57 Seconds has way more time dedicated to the couple.)

Justine wrote: "Smothered looks hilarious."

Comedy is often hit and miss for me in general but I definitely loved the leads’ chemistry. Subtle but scorching, imo.

TinaNoir | 1456 comments If anyone has read The Flatshareby Beth O'Leary, they made a tv series of it. The book doesn't actually come right out and say what race the hero is, but it is clear he is non-white or at least biracial. The tv show he is explicitly black. So the main couple if WW/BM, And there is a secondary IR BW/WM romance. I really liked the book and think the show does a good job. It is on FreeVee,

I also recently came across two Hallmark with the same actress. They are streaming on Peacock. These are both BWWM.

Mosaic (yolo_yy) | 135 comments Not sure if anyone watches soap opera, but EastEnders had interracial romance (?). It's between BW and Indian man. The characters are Ravi and Denise.

That goes without saying, General Hospital has interracial romance - Sprina.

message 873: by Mosaic (new)

Mosaic (yolo_yy) | 135 comments Rebecca,

Actually, now that I remember, Percy Jackson tv show has interracial teen romance with Black female protagonist. It's starring Leah Jeffries as Annabeth.

And if I remember correctly, Annabeth is in triangle love romance with Percy and Luke.

I stopped watching Eastenders years ago but it’s nice that Denise is getting some love. They put that woman through the wringer.

I’m not actively watching GH but from clips, Sprina seems sweet.

Mosaic wrote: "Rebecca,

Yes, but Percy is her only actual love interest (which would happen at about s4 or 5 of the tv series). She has a crush on Luke but that’s it in the actual books. In a companion book, it’s apparently hinted otherwise but I don’t think Luke liked her in that way. What the show chooses to do when/if we get to that point could be different though.

I saw that show (mostly for the secondary bwwm romance ngl), I quite liked it. Tried the first chapter of the book, might pick it up again later (though there’s no secondary ir romance there since the bw best friend is white in the book).

TinaNoir | 1456 comments Been Watching the First Wives Club on Netflix. It was originally on BET+ streaming. But now it is on Netflix. It is very good and fun. In Seasons 2 and 3 one of the ladies is in a IR relationship.

Also just saw a trailer drop for Wild Cards starring Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Gianetti. It is a new series coming to the CW in January. There is no actual romance in the trailer but... come on. They are so gonna get together....

They have so many free streaming services and yes, you can find some of the same content on all of them. You can find good things to watch on these free services. I have these free streaming services. You can download the app or go to their website.

1. Pluto TV
2. Tubi
3. Crackle
4. Roku
5. Plex TV
6. Filmrise
7. Freevee (Amazon’s free movies and tv shows) app.

If you have a library card, check with your library to see if they have Hoopla and Kanopy. Hoopla allows you to download movies and tv shows to watch offline.

Libraries don’t allow too many checkouts. Mine only allows 3 checkouts and that’s good, because I don’t really watch Kanopy. They do have a lot of content.

Thank you. I know of Pluto, Tubi & Freevee. I have never found anything to watch on Pluto or Tubi, but I recently watched the rebooted Leverage on Freevee. The original Leverage was one of my favorite shows and this latest incarnation did not disappoint.

I did not care for the new Leverage. Leverage: Redemption. I only saw a few episodes.

I like to watch British and international tv shows and I look for them on free streaming services.

Ooh, I love the rebooted Leverage. I was so nervous it would not live up but it really did. Noah Wiley and Aleyse Shannon were great additions to the cast. The old chemistry between everyone was still there. The Finale of the first season of the reboot was a fantastic episode and is amongst my list of all time favorite episodes.

Super excited to see the adaptation of Sense and Sensibility coming in a few weeks on the Hallmark Channel (Feb 24th). The Dashwood sisters are all BW and they look super gorgeous in their costumes and their hair is everything!

I hate that this will get backlash as soon as the previews air on the channel but I'm hoping some of us can push back with the views to give it some ratings and some positive posts on social media. I'm definitely looking forward to this one.

Yw guys! As a side note, S&S is one of Jane Austen's books, so that's kind of what you can expect. There will probably be British accents galore hehe. It's prob my fave Austen story.

And thanks for the heads up, Mosaic! Sadly, I don't have Peacock but I'm glad it will be available there. I hope it gets lots and lots of hits!

Btw, I rather liked that Nicole Beharie film but it's been a minute since I've seen it. I need to check it out again there, thanks!

Oh! And I think my fave Kandyse McClure may still have a small indie film there called Cole which I've been meaning to see. Not sure if it's still there but hopefully it is.
