SOLVED. Old (pre 1974) book of ghost stories centered on railroads [s]

Recently saw a listing for Ghost Train: American Railroad Ghost Legends which was published in 2001 and it reminded me of a similar book that I read when I was in school. It may have been as early as grade school but it was certainly no later than when I graduated. This puts the publishing date at sometime 1974 or before most likely 1966 or there abouts as I got a lot of books through the "Weekly Reader Book Club" at about that time.

I've tried a few searches and no anthologies of spooky railroad stories seem to fit the bill. It was an American collection and one of the stories was certainly about the "Headless Brakeman."

Any ideas?

Perhaps it is Freeman Hubbards' "Phantom Brakeman & Other Railroad Stories", it was origianlly published in 1961 however there is a 1966 edition,

That sounds about right. No wonder I couldn't find it on GoodReads it's not listed. I'll see if I can cobble together enough info and put up an entry.

The Phantom Brakeman and Other Stories That's definitely the book that I was thinking of.

I'm not sure how you all file these things here but someone can move this one to the solved file.
