So, it seems that there have been different variations of the ESV already in its relatively short life. I am looking at a new bible and I have one I am leaning towards but it is an older variation. Can anyone explain the differences and if it is worth getting a newer variation over other factors.

I have read the Wiki description on the revisions but I was hoping someone might have a point of view that includes some theological clarification.

I found them a while back and actually purchased a bible from them recently. I found the .pdfs of the changes as well. They are not extensive but are useful. I ended up with a 2011 ESV text for my daily reader even though I got a wide-margin with an older version.

Johnnie (berfer) | 42 comments Rather old response but... I have three ESV Bibles:
I use the older cross ref hardback- paid $10.00 for at a Bible Store in town. I did purchase the Study Bible and found it hit and miss. The outlines and intros are pretty good but the commentary is hit and miss- too historic redemptive in the Psalms and too many contextual notes so not much help in understanding the passage itself but good. My third is the journal Bible with note space in the margins- I use to put my own outlines for reference- for example I broke Deuteronomy into a covenantal outline and can see what that passage is in covenantal form almost immediately.
Other than that I sometimes print a chapter or book with wider margins in order to take notes and underline, etc.
