I read a book published by Del Rey which had a cover with women on a longship dragging an astronaut out of an apollo style reentry capsule. The basic premise was that on this planet roles where reversed where the women did all the roles that men traditionally did in our world such as hunting, fighting, governing etc.

Up the Walls of the Worlds by Tiptree comes to mind. However, it involves male astronauts returning to earth after a cataclism that has killed off the remaining male population.
It is but this was actually a very good book as it was not B-Movie-ish, it was about the cultural impact of the astronaut on the world.
Yonder Comes Other by Suzette Haden Elgin, pub. 1986 by DAW books.Summary: Tracing a telepathic message of incredible power, Tri-Galactic Federation agent Coyote Jones stumbles on the Brightwater Kingdom of the planet Ozark, a realm ruled by a determined young woman named Responsible.
It almost sounds like The Last Hawk by Catherine Asaro but the cover doesn't match your description.
Hmmm...doesn't sound quite right. it was definitely a crash landing in the ocean and being dragged from the rescue pod by women in a longship.James :-)
YEARS later, but... The Tiptree reference above should be to Houston, Houston, Do You Read?. Doesn't quite fit the OP's description, but I immediately thought of it.
A Door Into Ocean by Joan Slonczewski for the link. (Goodreads is picky; "The" instead of "A" means you can't find the book.)
Glory Season by David Brin? Doesn't seem quite what you're talking about, but I think it basically fits the description, though I didn't see any editions when I looked with the cover you described...so yeah, probably not, but it's all I could think of.
Maybe Herland by Charlotte Gilman Perkins?https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
It's been a long time since I read it, so I'm not sure if your description matches the book...

I sent a PM to James. He hasn't checked into the thread in quite a while, so if he doesn't respond in a reasonable length of time, I guess it's time to move this down to Abandoned
Sometimes different editions of books have different covers, so don't eliminate a title only because covers don't match.I hope James comes back and lets us know what's up.
We will see. I want to give him at least 24 hours before moving the thread down to Abandoned. Then, even if he does come back, he can move it back up to Unsolved.
