I gave fahrenheit 451 a five star, liked it a lot.

I love VA!

Johanna Sawyer Rocked under is my most recent worst book.... I read a lot but I have read Twilight. It's what actually got my daughter to read. I paid her fifty bucks to finish it in 30 days. She read it in three. If your an adult and identified with Twilight I may have to be a little worried. It is a Young adult fiction. Adults really aren't supposed to LIKE it. Key word though is YOUNG, it is supposed to identify with teen angst. My daughter loved the twilight series, and she watched the movies too. It got her to read and now we share that, so worst book....I don't think so. Adults actually grading it...well...that I'd be worried about more, who are we to grade when American literacy is already in the toilet.

Gerd Diane wrote: "I gave fahrenheit 451 a five star, liked it a lot."

That's still on my to-read list; I love Bradbury's prose but only tried the German translation of "Fahrenheit" so far - and that was quite a bore to read, I'm afraid Bradbury's style doesn't always translate well.

Yep, Greek myth rules. :)

Gabrielle Harry Potter

I don't hate you. Stupid Lord of the Rings ripoff.

Siobhan Not every book is going to appeal to everyone, so don't feel bad. I know a lot of people thought Harry was dull and stupid and they hated the shouting scenes in OOTP. I learnt a long time ago that not everyone is the same obsessive nut that I am when it comes to HP.

message 162: by Keiley (new) - rated it 1 star

Keiley Boy do I have a list for you guys. Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you I hate a lot more things than I like.

Obvious answer time! I hated 50 Shades Of Grey and Twilight. Hate hate hate. They were both awfully written and sent feminism back several decades. Not to mention people actually think they're well written! It saddens me to know that most people wouldn't know a good novel if I smacked them in the face with it.

Halo is godawful. The plot is terrible, the characters are unbearable and it demeans several very important, very interesting mythical figures. Not to mention everyone is either a Mary Sue or lacks in development and personality so much that they are worse than one. I didn't even know that was possible prior to this novel. Now I know.

The Kite Runner, which I know a lot of people disagree with. But I loathed this book. Perhaps it was because I did it as a school text, and perhaps it was because of the way the characters were presented to me by my psycho of an English teacher. But I hated the way that everyone protrays Amir and talks about him earning his forgiveness and poor poor pitiful him. He did something wrong, something seriously wrong, and I think he deserved to carry the guilt of that. Sue me.

House Of Night, the entire series. When I first read it I loved it, but upon re-reading it while somewhat older and wiser, I have found that is it awful. Bad writing, Mary Sue characters, blatant promotion of rape culture and slut shaming. The best example is in Marked. If you've read it I'm sure you'll understand what I'm saying.

There's this book that I read once in Grade 4, and it was terrible. It was called Something Special and it was by Emily Rodda. I know. I was appalled and shocked too. But Emily Rodda wrote one of the worst books I've ever read. I can't even remember why I hated it, only that I loathed it with a passion and didn't read another Rodda novel for upwards of six months.

Lastly, because let's face it I could give you a thousand bad books that I hate, is Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh. Wow was it bad. The entire thing was sexual tension, that often times completely crossed the line into sexual harassment and rape, only to conclude with a bad sex scene and a declaration of love. UST does not equal love, people! The whole thing was so bad and Raphael was so damn creepy.

Yeah, so there's a few of the worst books I have ever read. Learn from my mistakes and avoid them like the plague.

I liked it. It's very action packed and yes humorous but it's not the kind of series for everyone

I agree with you on book 5 - 7. Harry became whiny, and the story lost its charm.

Fahrenheit 451by Ray Bradbury. Its amazingly good, and even more relevant today then in the 80's.

Joan Stanley Either the Twilight saga's "New Moon" or "Wicked Lovely" by Melissa Marr.

Don't_Trot_and_Text Swindle by Gordan Korman and Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis...the only terrible parts of my childhood were reading those books. I had to read them for school.

I don't even know how anyone can stomach that series, It sounds like an horror story rather then an "romance".

By Stephenie Meyer? If so, Yeah I finished it.

message 179: by Laura (new) - rated it 1 star

Laura Twilight's gotta be up there as worst ever but there are too many to count. Best book, worst book? It's too subjective. Someone said Pride and Prejudice and another Wuthering Heights both top books in my library. Worst fantasy book, probably Twilight but some of those elvish world fantasies are a billion times worse, they just didn't sell millions of copies and spawn way to many sequels. THAT in my book, makes Twilight the worst of them ALL.

So, how exactly was HP a rip off of LotR? I'm honestly curious what elements you think they share.

message 181: by Star (last edited Mar 08, 2013 05:58PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Star Fouse The Story of Edgar Sawtelle It starts out not bad and stays pretty good for most of the book. Then, it was like the author wanted to see just how sad and unsatisfying he could make the end. I would give this book 1 star for the ending alone.

message 182: by Taughnee (new) - added it

Taughnee Golubović Loved Atonement. I don't hate a lot of books because I abandon those that don't work for me. Like, you know, TWILIGHT. (Abandoned at page 1.)

Twilight.
I couldn't take 50 Shades of Grey seriously. It was comedic literature to me, I don't know about anyone else.
Branded by Keary Taylor."

I second Pride and Prejudice, hated it. I forced myself through to the end because I thought I was missing something... but meh, nope.

message 184: by Missyb (new) - rated it 3 stars

Missyb I read a small book by Feehan that was horrible. It took a lot of convincing by my Mom to read her Carpathian series (which I did like). I don't even remember the name of the book, but it was so confusing & boring.
Lord of the Beasts by Krinard. Didn't even finish half of it.
Amber Moon was okay, but Black Moon and Silver Moon by Bevill were horrible
I read the first 9 books from the Undead series by Davidson, but book 9 (Undead & Unfinished) was so bad that I haven't bothered with the last 2 in that series

I agree. My friends gave me all 3 books and are expecting me to read them all. I read book one once last year. But I have to reread it again since they just gave me books 2 and 3 (almost half a year later after I read book 1).

The reread is kind of painful, but I've read worse books.

Well, honestly, it was rather harsh that I placed it on this list. I couldn't get into it, I wanted to do anything but focus on the book and Katniss annoyed me very much. I ended up giving up on the book (and I don't do that very often). But, after all, it's just my opinion.

However, I am going to try to read it again at some point and re-evaluate my choice to put it here.

message 188: by Cherie (new) - rated it 3 stars

Cherie Fifty shades of Grey ... >_>

Merrilee I guess I have a hard time answering this...I can list my least favorite, but I am not so sure I should say it is bad just because I did not care for it. I definitely did not enjoy The Lotus Eaters.

message 190: by S.L.J. (new) - rated it 3 stars

S.L.J. Anything by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

message 191: by Gabby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gabby S.L.J. wrote: "Anything by Jennifer L. Armentrout."

Crystal Gessler can't say it was twilight, even if i didn't like the movies. but i would have to say it was jackal and Hyde. the story to me is slow.

message 193: by Joseph (new) - rated it 5 stars

Joseph Pfeffer Moby Dick's not the worst. But it's the worst "great book," which may mean more. And why don't people like Twilight? I think it's pretty damn good.

message 194: by Kirby (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kirby Joe wrote: "Moby Dick's not the worst. But it's the worst "great book," which may mean more. And why don't people like Twilight? I think it's pretty damn good."

I think it's pretty damn good, too, but there are lots of threads on here where lots of people "explain" how it's not good...check 'em out if you're curious.

message 195: by Linda (new) - rated it 3 stars

Linda Kelly I agree Martina...I'd already posted about The Alchemist and wondered how it had people's lives..I just thought it was dull and confusing.

message 196: by Kirby (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kirby I've been having trouble thinking of the absolute worst (b/c I probably didn't finish those), but The Alchemist is definitely a contender. I probably only finished it b/c it was so short.

message 197: by Maddie (new) - rated it 1 star

Maddie The worst book? You mean other than Twilight?

Because that takes the cake. Other than that, I have to say Great Expectations and The Good Earth. I also will receive a lot of heat for this one, but I despised The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

message 198: by S.L.J. (new) - rated it 3 stars

They're not her books. She steals all her ideas.

Moby Dick brings me back to High School. I couldn't stand that book. Felt it was so boring.

I started The Turning by Armintrout, but stopped after a few chapters. It was so so, but didn't grab me and I wanted something different, so I started another series
