I'm posting it under Twilight under the assumption that at least half the answerers will state the novel above as their response.

Aaron "Ordinary Horror" by David Searcy. It's not horror, has almost no plot, and has the audacity to think that readers will think it's "literary" if it leaves everything vague to the point of non-existent.

Twilight is a boring story that's trying too hard to engage the reader, this was a book written by a person who doesn't seem to care about telling a story or engaging the reader AT ALL.

It also copies Twilight, right down to the (view spoiler).

Twilight sorry guys

Aaron Peace wrote: "but i think it did got a bit better at the end.."

I just can't get over how it seems to have no buildup, and then ends so abruptly. It never bothers to explain the birds, or even WHAT the thing he the car hit was... The jacket's description is the only thing that makes it seem like it's going anywhere, but it also talks about stuff that never happens in the plot.

I should add that I read this in HS, so it's possible I would see it differently now...

Yes, because being killed during childbirth has never happened before Twilight came along.

My Little Forest *Raquel* ... Sorry 'cause I'd never write anyone like this one! But, I've to say that it's not enough.. There's a total lack of thesis..

Gerd "Story of O" but I felt that "Seven men at mimbres springs" came close second.

But isn't it odd how ANOTHER one comes out not long after Twilight?

No... lol. Not everything "copies" Twilight.

Siobhan Nope, wedding cake to Turin was quite possibly the worst. Or rocked under. Or any ebook where the reviews are split between 5 and 1 because I will inevitably in the 'one because I'm generous' camp.

Ayesh memories of giesha.. the worst book I've ever read..

Siobhan Ayesh wrote: "memories of giesha.. the worst book I've ever read.."

Really? That's on my 50 books to read before you die list, it's meant to be a really influential book. But so is men without women by Ernest Hemingway and I thought that was terrible.

Bethany The Kite Runner for me.
I didn't think the first Twilight novel was too bad. I think if it had been a stand-alone book, it wouldn't have the stigma that it has now.

Cinderela .·:*¨ × Shannon♥Loving Like Woe × ¨*:·. wrote: "It's an manga that much worst than Twilight could ever be. This guy is an rapist-in-training. 'Nuff said."

lol I actually have that but never read it!

Cinderela I thoroughly enjoyed Twilight.. because I wasn't expecting Tolstoy; and I owe Stephanie Meyer thanks for introducing me into reading for fun again.

Moving on..

This vampire book called SUNSHINE, seriously?????? So horrible, then this other YA Book called A Kiss In Time. Complete crap.

My Dog Rex..........I was 5...

Nuran Anything by Claire Seeber, far more pathetic female characters than Bella ever could be!!!

Mochaspresso I read a lot of the Amazon Kindle freebies. Some have been really good but more have been just plain terrible.

I also think it is important for me to make the distinction between the worst book that I've ever read and books that I've just plain hated. The two don't always have to go hand in hand. I hated Wuthering Heights but it isn't the worst book I've ever read. I also loathed some of those "Beat" generation novels but I think I can understand why some people loved them so much.

I think I am going to pick "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" as the worst book that I've ever tried to read. I found that to be one big bizarre mess. There is really no other way for me to describe it.

message 22: by Sarah (new) - added it

Sarah The worst book ever is Kiss in Time. I hated it. It was so uncalled for and inappropriate. And it certainly doesnt belong in my school library!!! Yuck

message 23: by Katrina (new) - added it

Katrina Fifty Shades of Grey is 247248283574 times worse than Twilight, and you don't even have to read whole book to find that out. The Maximum Ride books are also pretty bad.

Siobhan Katrina wrote: "Fifty Shades of Grey is 247248283574 times worse than Twilight, and you don't even have to read whole book to find that out. The Maximum Ride books are also pretty bad."

Fifty is twilight minus any decent motivations plus sex.

Mocha, I feel the same as you, freebie ebooks are tempting because who doesn't like free books? And some of the synopses are really interesting, but all too often they don't live up to their own hype, or there isn't enough for a full story, really. Maybe it's too easy to get self-published these days ... Sometimes the books have potential, but need a serious editing session by the author. More people should wait a month or two then review their own work before trying to self publish, it would make the standard so much higher.

And likewise, there have been terrible books that I have enjoyed (possibly for the wrong reasons) and books that are beautifully written but have no impact on me because I can't relate. I wouldn't class twilight in either camp.

message 25: by Amber (new) - rated it 1 star

Amber PRIDE AND PREJUDICE!! God, I hate that book.
Twilight.
I couldn't take 50 Shades of Grey seriously. It was comedic literature to me, I don't know about anyone else.
Branded by Keary Taylor.

message 31: by Lisa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lisa Hated It's A Kind Of Magic - soooooo cheesy and awful

Linda Kelly The Corrections......Boring, boring, boring

Linda Kelly And while I'm at it....
The Lacuna by Barabara Kingsolver
The Visible World by Mark Slouka
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells....and...by no means least and very contoversial..The Book Thief. Would read Twilight a hundred times over rather than have to read any of these books again!

Hayfa Might get a lot of grief for this, but "Atonement" is the worst book I've ever read!

Linda Kelly Saw the film and quite enjoyed it, but you don't recommend the book Hayfa?...Don't worry, I get a lot of grief for disliking The Book Thief but hey..we are all different.....how boring it would be if we all liked and hated the same books.

Hayfa Definitely not! It's just SUCH a slow book!
I'm fairly neutral on The Book Thief. Not my favourite book, but not one I regret reading :)

No, SUNSHINE is a LOT better than Twilight. In fact, it's on my keepers shelf.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

1. A Northern Light.
2. Romeo and Juliet.
3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
4. Jane Eyre.
5. The Eternal Ones.

Siobhan Hayfa wrote: "Might get a lot of grief for this, but "Atonement" is the worst book I've ever read!"

Read a Nicholas Sparks novel. He is always, always so much better in film adaptation ;)

Linda Kelly The Spire by William Golding was pretty grim too...honestly if schools want children to read more they shouldn't have have such crap books on their syllabus!

Hayfa Haha I barely made it to the end of The Notebook ;) don't think I'd be able to sit through the movie!!!

Janeli Fallen By Lauren Kate

it was just horrible
its like the author thought the reader was very stupid

Siobhan I actually quite like fallen (and matched, as someone else mentioned) but I can see why you might dislike it. It could be a little bit if-Twilight-was-about-Angels (but come on, you gotta love some Roland and Cam, right?)

Nuran Hah I liked fallen too, loved the first. However, I only merely liked the 2nd and completely loathed the last two!!!!! I think my feeling relate to how much Cam made an appearance, which was barely any in the last three, so only the boring characters were left. And then Luce ended on a selfish note. And the writer turned Lucifer into a merely love sick puppy, who wants love. And then there was the stupid hunt for mostly useless things. Arrhgggghhh, I could rant on forever about what I dislike about fallen series, despite loving the first book.

American Wolf i would say fallen and marked had to be even

message 46: by Bebe (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bebe Tuck Everlasting, the first book I ever threw across a room. I hated it beginning to end and only made myself finish because it was so short.

Deliriate Farewell To Arms by Ernest Hemingway. It's a pity because I've learned to appreciate many of his short stories.

message 48: by sam (new) - rated it 2 stars

sam i have a list

the 2nd twilight book was the baddest of the series,
any of the house of night books,
evermore or any book in that series,
and any of the midnighters books (did i spell that right? i dont care),
and black is for beginnings or any of the books in the series after red is for rememberance

message 49: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy I could not stand Everything is Illuminated or A Confederacy of Dunces. I could not finish them mainly because I could not stand the characters.

message 50: by Lostshadows (last edited Feb 25, 2013 05:40AM) (new) - rated it 1 star

Lostshadows A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, by James Joyce. Boring and extremely pretentious.
