Who has read The Shack by Wm. Paul Young ~ Comments or thoughts?

I'm reading it :) It's okay. I'm still in the middle. All i can say is that it's a story of a father who lost a child and because of that he somehow blames God for not loving him or his child enough. The book will answer why God permits tragic things like that to happen. reasons etc. if you are fond of debates and theology or philosophy. You should read this :)i also recommend this for people who are curious about these matters. Thought provoking and interesting :)

I liked the twist on the Trinity. Sometimes I think of the Trinity as separate, or even hierarchical. But this book made me re-think of the Trinity as equal, yet very distinctive, views of the same "thing": God. The story arc, pacing, and plot were all good. My only negative comment is that as a father, and an author, I would never use the death of a child in a story. It was powerful, yes, but it too easily exploits one of the most painful experiences a human can have. Maybe there was a way to build that story without the death? But I admit it was a powerful element of the story. If you buy into Christianity, you should read it. If not, but are curious about the faith, start with something else first.

I loved the book. It helps one feel closer to God in some way... he doesn't seem far away

I like this book. The author really found ways to relate to scripture. I have read the whole Bible and I can see how the author came up with events and characteristics of each character. It's truly a work of art. Remember it's fiction.

I agree, quite interesting, a very different book. I enjoyed reading the book ... no skimming on this one.

I Loved the book. It kept me curious till the end. I too was in need of those kind of advises. It came in right time.

Definitely a very unique book, and incredibly though-provoking. It's not an easy read, but totally worth it.

I really was drawn into this book. I loved all the symbolism and the fresh perspective. Definitely worth the read!

Thought provoking and interesting are good words to describe this book. I thought it was a good illustration of God's character also how He is 3 but 1.

I purchased the book from the author at B&N. He was standing behind a table stacked with his books as shoppers walked right by, nobody pausing at his table to ask him a question or to give him the time of day. Despite that, he was smiling cheerfully and genuinely. It was a 'what-if-that-were-me' moment...so I stopped and we chatted a while. I GET why people would like the story--it's heartwarming and interesting. But I disagree with Bookworm's comment that it was unique and not an easy read. While I found it interesting, I thought it lacked complexity. Further, it's slant to Christianity was poorly veiled. I say, 'veiled' because I asked the author, upfront, if the story was advocating a particular dogma or ideology and I pointed to the backflap. But he said no, so I bought the book. It is well-written, has believable characters, and flows along smoothly. But it's Christian reading.

The first time I cried reading a book...

eh good overall points and ending but a boring read.

I loved the Shack. I read it as just fiction and enjoyed it a great deal, but then people around me began talking about the deeper meanings and signifiganceof incidents in the book and I had to take a deeper look. I was a bit put off bu the trinity depictions, until I learned the intentions of the author. At any rate, I do recommend it IF you can handle a child's death.
