I am not a big fan of Elvis, but I do like Johnny Cash. I went to see "Ring of Fire" when it was on national tour.

Happy dance, happy dance.
I thought it was a bit of a bummer that she didn't really have much characterization besides running after him every time he had a crisis. When she coerced him to let her serve on the same ship it seemed a bit weird, too. I guess it would've been nice to have some back story to explain it so it didn't seem too flimsy and convenient only when the story called for it.

and he's technically her superior. surely that's a no no. well perhaps such things are no longer a problem in star date 22 whatever :-)
and that's why i'm hoping that they develop the relationship. it would be nice to see them go back in time and show how they met etc.

Oh! Good point, Justine. That's another thing too that was like "ack!". Wonder if it will continue in the series?
That's a good point too about the time because in this timeline/universe it's still closely resembles our current time.
Would be interesting to see where they go from here. They have to completely remold Spock's character because one of his struggles was that of balancing his human side, logic and honoring his Vulcan heritage and the culture. Now that he's freely sucking face in public and is instinct they'll have to figure out how to make him more nuanced lol.
I think they could have shown a progression in the relationship even with what they have onscreen. With just a few lines or a scene or two without bogging down the main storyline. Instead of focusing on clown hands and wacky medical hijinks they could have focused more on character development here and there. But I digress.
Since it was an alternate universe they had to basically rewrite the characters but they kind of copped out and just let the audience rely on previous knowledge of the characters (which is weird because when someone references previous acts the characters did, they're reminded it's a completely new world). Yikes! Plus it would have laid the groundwork for future stories.
I think in trying to reboot to ignore and dodge canon they made it more confusing! Lol.

True, but that stuff was hilarious, LOL. I wouldn't have missed it for them making eyes at each other. But yeah, I guess they could have had a few subtle hints in there.

i do like the new version of spock. they've made him a bit more human, a bit more approachable. so let's keep fingers crossed... eh splayed open.
Lol Captain Kirk eternal superhero. King of hanging off ledges? hehe
That's true. I guess that's why I thought he was kind of boring and one note to me. I liked that he previously had a culture and Vulcans are my favorite Trek species because of the vast history they share that makes them so different in contrast to their Romulan brothers. Here he just seemed like an uppity elitist rather than a man with more layers and varied background. Oh well.
I'm hoping Paramount doesn't desert the Prime Universe altogether for the alternate one. That universe is so vast and there's so much more stories to be told that it would be great if they continued both timelines. I guess there's always books and fan productions (which are actually quite fun)!

We never saw a young Kirk or Spock in the Prime Universe. But I have to say that I like this young Spock.
Think of the fun they can have in this new universe. Can you imagine retelling all the old stories with different endings? IF they do do this - I'm holding out for some sort of green gooey blob to eat Number 1 before he gets to be Number 1. I could not stand that Will Riker character

I saw Terminator on Sunday. I thought it was really good. Sam Worthington is totally hot. Christian Bale, who I love to death, looked a little emaciated in it.

Was it an end to the story or a more to come sort of thing. did the machines finally get their comeuppance?
It's the start of a trilogy that shows John Connor's life after his mother has passed and the war with the machines has been going on for a while.

Anywho, back to india.arie. She was amazing. I would see her again in a heartbeat. I love the new songs on Vol. 2 plus she sang three of my absolute favs by her: "Heart of the Matter," "There's Hope," and "I am not my Hair."

I second that. Really enjoyed T4 and Sam is serious yum. ;-) Christian Bale did kinda look emaciated come to think of it.

Hehe are you waiting for the war also, Justine? A lot of fans are tired of the pre war stories and just want to get to the down and dirty dragouts and human uprising that Reese told Sarah about in the first movie.

I quite like Nichelle. I think a lot of Uhura was based on what Nichelle brought to it and she's so graceful and strong without going over the top. Even now in her roles she's very strong but has a way of doing it with style.
Zoe is a very modern actress. Even in her other roles like Haven, Crossroads, Vantage Point and Drumline she isn't a very strong actress that brings the full on moxie. She did well in those because they called for a certain kind of suffering, youthful naivete and innocence lost but as Uhura, I think she needed to bring it up a notch to fit within what Nichelle has created for the character. I'm definitely interested to see how she plays her role in the upcoming Avatar because she has the potential to make that role stand out since her character will be somewhat innocent but a fighter in the end.
That's true. There were a ton stories written and coming to the screen (including a Harve Bennett script which this movie took a lot of cues from) but none of them ever made it until now.
If they do an alternate universe take I would hope that they do completely new series. The complaints they had included "the canon was so vast it hampered out creativity so we couldn't write. So then we decided to just chuck canon and wipe out the past and future in an alternate universe". Groovy, so why go back and remake previous stories with new endings? I see a lot of parallels from what happened with BSG potentially happening here. Learn from the past folks! lol.
Lol you didn't like Riker? I have to admit I'm not too big of a TNG fan (runs away from the oncoming tomato storm). There was too much walking and talking and sit around talking about the problem before doing something for my liking. Picard was a big fan of diplomacy and chatting about. I liked The Original Series because Kirk went out there and DID something and had adventures.
DS9 was cool (my second favorite series) but I didn't like how Sisko was the ONLY Captain to start out the show as a Commander. Suspect huh? Plus he wasn't in every episode which tended to showcase the other characters (Nerys, Odo, etc) more than him. Later on it got really awesome when they showed more of him. Favorite eps are Trials and Tribulations and Far Beyond the Stars. The latter episode was a really bold move for a tv show (not surprising for Trek maybe?) because of how much they showed as far as racism in the 50s. If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out. Actually check both out if you can! :-)
Here's a youtube video someone made of the ep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSUroR...

That's so awesome, Lonestarpt! I so want to go to a indie.arie concert one day. I bet she was amazing! I'll have to check out Laura Izibor. She sounds great!
I have to admit I didn't know there were that many black in Ireland myself until I heard about Samantha Mumba and her brother. I saw them in the remake of the Time Machine (which wasn't too bad). Come to think of it I haven't heard much of her since then. Hmmm.
Anywho, so glad you had a great time!

Somewhere in time, I became completely convinced that Wil Wheaton was dead. Somehow, I thought he went in the way of my teenage crush: River Phoenix, who I loved in "Dogfight."
But, I digress. Anywho, I was sure he was dead. I would actually tell it to people, who usually either thought I was psycho or were completely shocked.
Anyway, I once told this to my good friend Angela and she looks at me and says, "No, he isn't numnuts."
I persisted in my delusion that he was dead and re-affirmed that he was, in fact, dead.
To which she replied, "He wasn't dead last month when I saw him."
It turns out that she and her husband are casual acquaintances of his and he is NOT dead.
I have begged her not to relay this story to him.
Oh snap that's awesome lol. Did you hear that he was dead somewhere? I notice the news sometimes reports that (like with Jaleel White and, apparently according to Youtube, Samantha Mumba lol) through the grapevine.
That's wild that that your friends are casual acquaintances of his!
I don't know why Wesley Crusher was a punching bag for fans. He wasn't really annoying and Wil was actually quite cute!
Did you know Wil's on Twitter? Wild.

No idea how I decided upon him being dead. I thought I might have heard it somewhere, but I really have no clue.
Didn't know he was on Twitter, but I'm not on Twitter. I am one of the non-conformist sheep who is staying away from the social networks even though I guess this kinda is.
I think my conformist inkling side beat up my non-conformist side so I signed up after fighting it. heh. It's actually kinda nice though cause I get most of my entertainment Sci-Fi news, publishing news and world news all in one click. Lazy but it works I guess! lol
Here's his page: https://twitter.com/wilw
Levar Burton's also there: http://twitter.com/levarburton
Some other SF alums, too.
There's also some publishing editors and agents that tweet there a lot. The things they reveal about themselves are quite frightening at times. Really helps in seeing who would be best to work with or not.
Hey cool, just saw LaShaunda over at SORMAG Tweet this article from NY Daily News:

Wow, Rae. You have something to say about Star Trek. I'm impressed.
I liked TNG because of Picard, Data, and Worf. I also liked when Whoopi Goldberg was on there. I found Riker and Deana Troi boring (sorry to any fans). But TNG is my favorite. DS9 was a bit dry but I liked it. Voyager would have been better except I didn't like Janeway. Sorry but Enterprise put me to sleep. I was so disappointed with it. I'd like to watch more of the original Star Trek than I've gotten the opportunity to. I just ordered the animated Star Trek series off Amazon.

I couldn't stand Riker. What on earth did he ever do but stand lopsided and be a burr in my ass?! And you are right too much sitting around and talking. The only episodes I liked were those with Q, the Borg and Troi's mother. Now those were fun characters.
