Halfway to the Grave
question
How did Bones get that Tattoo?

It doesn't make sense to me. If Bones was turned into a vampire and decided to get a tattoo, how did it manage to stay on/in his skin? I imagine that, with every attempt, it would heal and the ink would just ooze out and off his skin.
Now if he had gotten the tattoo while he was still human and then turned into a vampire, that would make sense. But not the other way around.
Furthermore, let's say that Bones was able to find the right ink to keep the tattoo in his skin. Two hundred and something years later, is his tattoo faded or still fresh as a daisy, like him?
I know that Jeaniene Frost explains piercings, but I don't think she explained tattoos. Perhaps I haven't read far enough in the series to find out yet?
The things that go though my mind. ;-)

It doesn't say anything about the tattoos in any book. I've read them all and i never even noticed! Still, Bones is my favorite book boyfriend and i really dont care about the tattoos but it would be interesting if Frost would give an explanation.
I would love an explanation on that as well. Dori Bones is my favorite too. I've read them all three times and listened to the audio once. Did you ever read Denise and Spades story. I'm thinking maybe he got his tattoo the same way she got marked.
Well, depending on what vampire lore base you use, the outcome would be different. In my own mind, getting a tattoo on vampire skin wouldn't affect the ink, only the healing. They would heal instantly, but they wouldn't necessarily reject the ink.
But, if the author has different rules, then they should probably explain them so there isn't reader confusion.

I know in BDB the ink has to have salt in it to seal it otherwise it comes out. I remember in one of the books Bones talks about a mate of his giving it to him. I think Tattoos stay because Menchares has one at the small of his back.
i just wish cat would get her hip tattoo back
I just started the series (I am flying through it since I can't put them down!). I wont lie, when I first read that Bones got the tattoo after he was turned, I figured they used vampire blood as ink. I have no idea why I thought this nor do I have any proof that it happened, but I thought I would share my ponderings. I'm off to go find out what these characters are up to next!
Maybe it's because he stays that way for a couple hundred years. The ink doesn't go into your bloodstream, it just marks onto your skin. So since he doesn't age, the tattoo's just going to be the same. I mean now it's apart of himself, it won't age. And luckily, for him, it won't get infected. Then again, only a guess.
